Chart posting is fine and not any less of a meaningful contribution than the people regurgitating how doing X, Y or Z is cheating every other thread in response to an ambiguous topic or posting short quips like congrats or you suck. At least people posting their charts shows there are still individuals who care enough to continue progressing towards whatever their goals are and can share it with like minded individuals. I don't know in what conceivable way it detracts from discussions when half the time people ask anything, there's a single response to the question at most.

I don't really care about that, I'm not going to kill myself whenever I want to try a video game. Thinking a game is worth jumping through hoops to acquire is just silly. ZUN is a one-man-developer and touhou is a twenty-three-year-old series. Back when digital releases weren’t even a thing, ZUN started the career of touhou from selling his CDs piece by piece at comiket. Even though he sells digital releases nowadays, he still enjoys the feeling of delivering his works by his own hands.
If you still don’t get the point of it, just takes those physical CDs as early access for vips, you either go to the presentation or wait for its release date.

Anyway, I suggest you should watch a play through of previous official games to decide if it worth you 15 bucks.
Most people here don’t play official touhou games, but they still like touhou for its lord, music, waifu, fangame or whatever season.

That’s why ZUN sales his game in his way.
He doesn’t really care if people buy his games on steam or not.
Most of his revenue comes merchandise not the game itself.

well, folks should definitely try doing their own homework (it'd cut down on a lot of repeated q&a, for sure), but there is the rare attack where it isn't obvious from a replay what the player is doing differently. the real kicker though is when the issues are more about fundamentals than strats. those can be easy to miss for a newb, and even follks with a bit of experience can fall into bad habits without realizing it and can have trouble seeing their own problems. for instance: maybe they're reacting late, so you can ask where they're looking onscreen.

IN scoring and last words are tied into character swapping, but that's not something you'd worry too much about if you're new. The short of it is Reimu gets more points for shooting stuff and Yukari for grazing.
Also Reimu can kill familiars (killable bright things that enemies sometimes create) , while Yukari can't, but also can't get hit by them. Switching at the right time can make some things incredibly easier, like Keine's nonspells.

This is normal, your brain is not trash.
When you play for the first time, everything is new, you have no idea what to expect, but you are focused. As you practice, you will gain experience and learn the patterns, but also lose focus – especially on the easier parts.

A few things to ask yourself, and some personal opinions:
* Are you currently playing to clear the game or to practice? During your first run, you may have been trying to get as far as possible, and thus used a lot of bombs. As you practice more difficult sections without bombing, you will naturally die more often and thus not get as far.
* How do you practice? To maintain focus, try to minimize practising easy sections. First practice the stages that give you problems. Once you can do the stage portions consistently (perhaps with bombs), narrow it down to only practice the spell cards that give you problems.
* Do not aim for perfection. This is not a question, just a clarification to the previous point: you'll easily lose focus and interest if you aim for perfect straight away. If you cannot do a spell card or stage portion consistently even after repeatedly trying, then just bomb it.
* Do you stay motivated/focused? When I keep dying to stupid things, I take a break. Or I practice something actually difficult, depending on my mood. I would suggest that you only play the "arcade mode" when you are serious about trying to clear the game, so that you do not develop bad habits. In practice mode, you can experiment and push yourself, but in the arcade mode, when you are seriously trying to get as far as you can, you should play smart and avoid risks. I would also suggest that you avoid resetting excessively: resetting too often cheapens your commitment to your runs, and also wastes your time on the easier early stages.

These are all just opinions, and things that Works On My Computer(tm), but I made this serious looking graph, so clearly my opinion is the correct one!

>> No.21915196

>>21913993
Honestly it's worse. I've been playing MS a lot lately. Those blue knives on the blue background at least have large bright outlines. WBaWC's bullets all seem to have outlines that are either thin, dim, or both. It's a problem on at least half the game's stages.

>> No.21915614

>>21914888
>I mean come on just bombing breaks the survival spell in extra. HSiFS already had a very similar bug
Why do people just go and assume it's a bug? If you have to bomb the spell then clearly you're not good enough to capture so why even play the whole thing out when it won't matter?
It's that same kind of "let's ease up on the player a wee tad" philosophy that's likely also responsible for bumping down the Extra unlock requirement from "1cc the main game in Normal difficulty or higher" to merely "1cc the main game"

>> No.21915664

>>21915614
Using releases in hsifs still allows you to capture the spell so it's clearly a bug.
>If you have to bomb the spell then clearly you're not good enough to capture so why even play the whole thing out when it won't matter?
Defeating the boss is what matters. That card might as well not exists right now if you aren't doing a no bomb run.

For stages, memorize literally every spawn that doesn't just shoot streaming patterns so you kill things before they shoot anything. For bosses, find moments where you can safely move up a little to fire a slash then move back down. You also don't need to unhold shift if you don't want to. Releasing the z button also fires a slash. Also YoumuEagle is bugged as per the above discussion so use the other two.
