Having compared with jisho.org, I've found that most of the time, wiktionary's definitions make the most sense, to put on a card. Jisho's definitions are often too broad, and that's too much to memorize. It's easy to remember a narrow, clear definition.

wiktionary was a discovery for me.

I think most people are are unable to gauge their own comprehension ability. They'll tell you they have "100%" or "99%" comprehension just because they don't feel completely lost looking at gibberish, but that's not what you find out when you question them on what certain parts of the text might mean exactly.

Just memorizing words with kanji, without RTK, I picked up on the radicals, which I need to live or something.

As I picked up more radicals that way, it became easier to remember new kanji. I don't know about RTK but the radicals are clearly the "letters" that make up a kanji, and when you know the radicals then you sort of know the alphabet for Chinese.

>> No.21824233

>>21824213
Most people doing RTK don't write the kanji anymore. Writing them is useless as a beginner. You'll lose writing ability anyway unless you keep writing but it doesn't seem worth it, it's just writing for writing's sake. Even Khatzumoto stopped recommending that in favor of "lazy kanji", seeing the kanji and recalling its meaning or a close approximate

Learn the kanji meaning then start reading, learning words will be easier, after you can read and understand well then learn to write since you'll probably be writing anyways. In the beginning, you don't know the language so you have nothing to write.

These threads have been utterly ruined buy subhuman shitters like quizmaster, jamalfan, other namefags, tripfags and faggots who talk like niggers in retarded ebonics. 1500 posts and not a single quality one.
I remember when these threads were actually useful and not populated with self-promoting, ego stroking, circlejerking subhuman Reddit rejects. What's worse is that other people start aping them, making a proper discourse impossible
It's kind of sad, I rarely come here anymore. It's always the same with these creatures; a couple worthless subhumans show up and start shitting up and ruining everything for an entire community. Is it ok for a native to comment?

Howdy:) so I’m Japanese. I just found this place yesterday and I commented on quite a few posts so far. But i just now realised that that may not be so welcomed cuz people can also learn Japanese by commenting or thinking about answers to a question and I’m taking away those opportunities. I also really don’t wanna sound condescending or critical so I end up putting a lot of this :) at the end of sentences.

I’m actually struggling a little bit with job hunting so it was nice to feel useful to someone hehe and I might’ve gone overboard and commented too much.

So thats my concern right now:)

Anyway, I wish yall good luck with learning!! 頑張ってね ;)

He's obviously not a social butterfly, it doesn't take very long to realise that while you stare at his pasty face in his videos, and it wouldn't be a surprise at all if he had aspergers syndrome. He probably hates him. If you've ever read the AJATT site, you'll see that Khatz's way of thinking is the polar opposite of Matt's.

Khatz acknowledged that AJATT followers had a tendency to be cult like, and would occasionally jokingly refer to AJATT as "the AJATT cult", but he made it clear that he didn't like that sort of behavior and looked down on people who engaged in it. All the rigid "you must do this, this and this in this order and don't listen to anyone but me" shit that Matt espouses is exactly the sort of thing that Khatz warned people against. MIA is basically what happens when you take all the worst parts of AJATT and turn them into a "new" method. That's why Matt/MIA attracts such awful people.

There's a Streamable link floating around somewhere where Matt talks about how after he had a single conversation with Khatz, Khatz totally ghosted him.

there's more to being an autist than just being "awkward". it's more like a total lack of understanding of social norms which matt demonstrates abundantly here by walking up to a group of strangers with a hidden camera and secretly recording them like a fucking weirdo. he then published the footage online demonstrating that he has no awareness that he did anything socially inappropriate here, and also no consideration for the people he secretly filmed.

What if language learning is dependent on your conciousness mind's writing speed or bandwidth, on how fast writing is done to the part in the brain that is for language. So the speed on how that happens decides how fast you learn, so input 24/7 might just be as good as 2 hours a day depending on that speed, or 24/7 output where only 2 hours a day can be written but not on a daily basis but on a weekly basis instead. I felt that after 5-8 days unkown knowledge got unlocked as if it had been written, but not all knowledge that I had consumed. So all those ajjatters doing 24/7 input 90% might just be discarded as their bandwidth can't keep up. So in 2 years doing 24/7 they are just as good as the average person that reads 2 hours and listens 1 hour a day for 2 years. Comparing myself to those ajjatters that have done 18/24 months I feel that this is the case for me personally as I never did 24/7 and can read just as much as they can.

>In the case of evolution through natural selection, Darwin conceived the hypothesis around 1839, and made a first draft of the concept three years later in 1842. He discussed this widely with many of his intellectual companions, and conducted further research in the background to his other writings and work. After years of development, he finally published his evidence and theory in On the Origin of Species in 1859.

Today's hour of writing went over pretty well. I definitely notice that the more kanji I can write the easier it becomes to write more of them. Indeed for a large part of reviewing the kanji where in my mind pretty much instantly but the reviews still take a good amount of time just due to having to write everything. Oh well I feel like I am getting some new insights the more I progress which I am glad about but I still don't think this is worth doing for most people, especially if one's goal is just reading and understanding Japanese. Should be done with Kanken level 6 within this week. Should be able to get level 5 done this month as well, looking forward to it.

it's more sensible to examine the relationship between gun ownership and homicide than gun ownership and gun violence. you're ignoring the substitution effect wherein criminals use alternative weapons when guns are less available. i'm not accusing you of doing this specifically because you could be none the wiser but obviously a lot of politically motivated people dishonestly frame the conversation in that way. though even the relationship between gun ownership and gun-related homicides is weak - lots of dishonest actors group suicide and homicide together and call it "gun deaths", but present it as "gun homicides". moreover they cherry pick which countries to include in their analysis. oh and obviously you can make the case for preventing suicides through gun restrictions but that's a different conversation from homicide. american gun culture does seem to have a slight effect but most variation between the US and europe seems best explained by demographic differences.
https://jaymans.wordpress.com/2014/06/11/guns-violence-again/
he also examines regional/intranational relationships.

and I guess there is probably a personal variable that affects how fast you learn, maybe affected by IQ or age or whatever

Japanese has lots of sentences where the first word will clue you in on what's to come. Like in "もし雨が降ったら" both もし and たら show supposition. I think Jay Rubin's book on grammar is where I first saw this explicitly pointed out, but it's been years since I've read it so.

>> No.21829077

yea that's the one. that arc is called the chimera ant arc. there's a lot of episodes that open with 30+ second recaps. there's moments where the narrator explains things that don't need explained. there's moments where time is slowed and/or shots are panned for dramatic effect.

that stuff is unnecessary. i think it could be reduced by 15+ episodes and the arc would be a lot more appealing to people in general. granted it's still widely acclaimed, but the most common complaint i hear about the series is the bad pacing and it'd be neat if someone talented could fix that. but it'd be impossible for some parts.

yeah I guess man but it's still a gigantic mess to this day
they pretty much just did the absolute minimum for Japanese to even be readable like around the onset of the 20th century
before then it was just a huge fucking pile of shit you can look at how it looked then it just barely functions
and when they made simpficiations to kanji but decided later to add kanji containing the unsimplified versions to the mandatory learning list so you now got two different versions you really realized they just don't give a shit
not to mention the mess that modern kanji is too and the countless numbers of words with weird ass reading that you just got to know
not even Japanese people can read or write kanji that's how fucked it is
but who am I kidding I love it all of course it just causes wonder in me, like how did this happen how could a country as big and successful as Japan have one of the most fucked up writing systems in the world

if you can't understand it without a dictionary it's not simple to you, obviously. and considering that dictionaries contain grammar too, then by your dumb standard, all japanese text is "simple" because with a dictionary and enough time you could figure it out. just silly.

>Regions, Prefectures, Cities, the Tokyo Metropolis, and Ancient Provinces of Japan
The CoR maintainer disappeared right around the time I posted it before so the latest version never made it into the CoR. I believe the version linked above corresponds to the one in this post (though I can't be sure since the filehost is dead):
>>/jp/thread/S17747726#p17756925

I literally have 45 versions of this deck on my hard drive and to make matters worse I didn't exactly use the most intuitive naming system for them, but hopefully I uploaded the right deck. If your native tongue already is an easy brainlet language like English. You should start by building up your IQ by studying the next language in this difficulty chart.
So, if you are a native English speaker, your target language before ever even considering Japanese, should be something from the Category I.
When you have spent that 24 weeks studying it, and mastering the language, you can then proceed to study the languages in the Category II.
Now just keep follow this pattern until you reach Category V*
Once there, you can start by watching the mandatory 10万 hours of anime and start RTK while at it.

The people in those videos (especially that old guy at some professional event or w/e) probably don't care to learn about it or are unaware that you can learn it. They probably all recognize their accent is fucked up other than khatz maybe.
