I know at the very least that azw3->xhtml doesn't add the images automatically (xhtml is just html output inside a zip folder; this is what everything in the library is converted to). Or it didn't used to, anyway. I dunno about conversions to other formats since I've never done any.

Also, in case there's any confusion, I'm not itazuraneko guy.

>> No.21737114

Yeah, it is. Hence why it's fucking dumb to expect someone to purchase the book to add the images when the person who uploaded it already has them and isn't.

>> No.21737158

>>21737052
By the way, to add the images in yourself, just get hold of a copy of either the ebook or scans. If you have the ebook, you will need to do a conversion to xhtml via Calibre, which will rip the images from the ebook for you, even though it won't insert them automatically to the resulting html page.

Anyway, once you have the images you need, create a folder within the same folder you've saved the LN html page from itazuraneko to called "images" and dump the images in there. Next, either open up the ebook or look through the scans and find where each image is supposed to appear within the html file. Now open up the html page saved from itazuraneko with Notepad or something and CTRL+F for the text immediately following where the image appears within the LN.

Create a new line just above that text and insert the following:
</p><img src="images/filename_of_appropriate_image.jpeg"/></p>

>>21737070
I will agree that it's pointless of him really to share the HTML page without the images added and he should just share the ebook instead in that case, but you can always get the images you need from the scans if you can't find a download of the ebook to make your own conversion with. If you can't even find scans of what you're trying to read to get the images from, and itazuraneko guy hasn't shared the original ebook file, then you have grounds to complain, but otherwise you just come across as being entitled. It's really not much work to add in a handful of images yourself. You should be grateful that you're able to read the book at all, even if you have to expend a little effort to do so.

>> No.21737231

>>21737158
>It's really not much work to add in a handful of images yourself.
But that means every person who reads the book will have to do it. Say 50 people end up reading that book. 50 people doing a task each individually for themselves vs. 1 person doing that task, which do you think is more overall work? And if Itazura allowed people to download copies of the books like the old library did, your "just add them yourself' comment would hold a lot more weight since at least I wouldn't have to leave the site to do so. But telling me that I need to hunt down the images on another site (if they're even available at all) to get the full experience on this one is just silliness. Especially since, as you mentioned, it doesn't take much time at all if you have the images and itazura presumably has them (or had at one point, at least).

>You should be grateful that you're able to read the book at all
Me being ungrateful at the failure to maintain the standards set by the old library doesn't mean I'm not grateful for what's there already. I just wish that it wasn't half-assed. The old library got this down perfectly, there's no reason not to expect that the replacement should maintain that.

I must just have garbage memory with how fast I see people get through the core2/6k. It's been roughly a year since I started using anki and I'm only 1400 words in. If I add any more than 5-8 cards a day my reviews end up taking me 40-60 minutes and I have no time to actually do anything else, so I only do like 2-3 new cards per day so I can actually spend some time trying to read.

I did end up switching around 1200 words to just adding words I see (and think are useful) when reading other things though. Makes it quicker to have cards with the words already made.

They're only reading a specific paragraph.

English: Last night I opened the front door to let the cat out. It was such a beautiful evening that
I wandered down the garden for a breath of fresh air. Then I heard a click as the door
closed behind me. I realised I'd locked myself out. To cap it all, I was arrested while I
was trying to force the door open!

French: Hier soir, j'ai ouvert la porte d'entrée pour laisser sortir le chat. La nuit était si belle que
je suis descendu dans la rue prendre le frais. J'avais à peine fait quelque pas que j'ai
entendu la porte claquer derrière moi. J'ai réalisé, tout d'un coup, que j'étais fermé
dehors. Le comble c'est que je me suis fait arrêter alors que j'essayais de forcer ma
propre porte !

english:
Isn’t it the best feeling when you’re finally able to recognize a recently learned kanji or get the grasp of a sentence?

Even if it isn’t a very difficult Kanji or sentence, there’s something very gratifying about being able to understand it or at least the gist of what it is trying to say.

I have only been learning Japanese for about two weeks. I learned the kana in about two days and since then have been working on basic grammar rules and somewhat easy Kanji (the stuff you probably should start out with, like 大きい, for example), but when I am able to recognize a Kanji in a video game or something, I feel great.

I also love that combined Kanji make words that you could recognize with common sense, for example 大人 (adult) is big + person. It makes much more sense than English in some ways if you really think about it.

Good luck to everyone else on their journey.

ありがとうございました!

Or maybe it's just me who isn't fluent enough but the author not only uses a lot of slang but also a lot of barely ever used kanji.
For example I just encountered 鎚 and it didn't have any furigana but I was able to guess its reading thanks to 槌 (that's probably why they didn't give any, but I still had to check it anyway).

everyone makes mistakes in communicating what they mean sometimes. it’s okay.
what you probably need is to relax your expectations about what you should be able to understand and how quickly. reading will start out very, very slow, for everyone. no matter how anyone else tries to make it seem, they had to read for at least a hundred hours or so before they could go at a steady, comfortable pace. that’s normal.
and it’s also normal to be overwhelmed at large amounts of text if you’re not used to it. take small chunks of language at a time (50 to 200 characters) and work through it no quicker than you can comfortably do so, with the help of a dictionary. it’s very important not to rush yourself, and to take short breaks between each chunk as to not exhaust yourself.
and don’t get into the mindset of having to “read kanji”. you want to read *words*. so look up those *words* as you go, and the meanings of most sentences will come together given your grammar knowledge. if it doesn’t, skip it for the time being. with more experience and exposure, whatever it is you can’t understand now will click over time.
if you give yourself permission to feel good about each sentence you can successfully understand (instead of getting upset or frustrated with yourself for not being able to do it faster or with less lookups), then you will create a positively reinforcing cycle and see progress happen.
if i were you i’d let go of anki for a while and just work on having more and more experiences of understanding small chunks of text and feeling good about it.

are those words you did this with:
>having more and more experiences of understanding small chunks of text and feeling good about it
the last part (positive reinforcement and dopamine) is important.
writing down words over and over, if it isn't fun/rewarding and accompanied by memories of compelling input is likely not going to help much and might even hurt you by making you associate the words with that boring, uninteresting experience of repeatedly writing isolated words.

I don't know what context you found it in, if there were descriptions of symptoms or pictures if it was a visual novel. Without any context I wouldn't make guesses on what it is. If I was watching a medical show and it was obvious I'd look it up to see the kanji

Look my vocabulary is pretty tiny, I had 8000 words (2k core, 6k mining) when I started listening only, then I did RTK and watched a lot of shows.

I'm not ???と???が???です, I might miss a word like 卒塔婆 in a sentence and then I look it up and I know it. If I forgot it's reading I might not bother looking it up again if I remember what it means and it's not convenient. I saw it once and remember it though. RTK helps you remember words without putting them in Anki. Sure I'd remember more words if I made 50 sentence cards every day like q*izmaster but I'm not into that life. You shouldn't do RTK if you haven't even started learning Japanese.

I'll start reading more after I check out this season's anime and dorama and choose what to drop so I'll have more time to read. I planned to listen for a year so I won't cripple my listening and I've done it but I've also become allergic to the thought of adding words and wasting time on anki again. Maybe I'll just read without adding words to anki but I probably wouldn't bother reading enough daily that dropping anki would be sensible.

First half of episode 1 was so bad but the second half was better and the show has been okay since then. That said, every time the show drifts away from the main character, I totally lose interest.

I'm watching a few other things, but besides Dr.STONE, 女子高生の無駄づかい and ダンベル何キロ持てる? , they're all varying levels of garbage. I was looking forward to that new David Production show (which got delayed this week due to the KyoAni fire), but so far it has been trash. Really dumb trash at that. Not impressed by Vinland Saga either up to now either, and I can't understand why they spammed 3 episodes in a row on the same day and then decided to put the show on a 3 week break. What the fuck. Can't even be bothered to give opinions on other things.

>> No.21743866

the fact that you are subvocalizing mispronouciations is only half the problem with premature reading. filling your mind with collocation knowledge also biases the way your mind interprets input when listening to the language. If your goal is to archive the most native-like accent possible no matter what, putting off all reading 100% for the first year is the way to go. You learn your native language through listening alone, and replicating this process is going to lead to having the most native-like ears in the end. Every little bit of knowledge that you gain through your eyes (instead of your ears), will be used by your brain to fill gaps in listening ability, eventually leading listening abilities to plateau before reaching the highest possible levels. But for most people, this will be too difficult to be worth it. Even if you do lots of reading from the start, if you do a lot of listening as well, your accent will still likely become very good if you put some work into it

not at the same time, because it makes absolutely no sense to
the POINT (go read the first chapter FFS it explains everything) is to learn the ideographs in a structured way and be familiar with at least 1 meaning for each. you acquire readings either by then studying vocab (which is a shit-ton easier to actually remember BECAUSE you already know something about what all the kanji mean) OR with dedicated readings-study (which is generally not recommended, and probably only useful for 音読み anyway).
