Trying to use the dong formation to clear 5-5 quests like Saratoga's and some of the kai ni destroyers.

FFS, even bringing a full fleet of high level battleships and carriers with hole punches aren't able to finish off the boss and her two Re-class escorts to get to the easier post-clear state. Trying to send the quest required fleets which have destroyers seems even less likely to succeed..

It wasn't this hard before was it? I remember at least being able to beat this map with the same composition before.

I see on the OP that a max upgraded plane has +2.2 or so of extra AA to it. So that would mean a maxed Iwamoto has 14, a max Reppuu 601st has 13, and a max Iwai Model 52 has 12.
Iwai in particular having 12 is pretty good, plus the other stats. Does it ever come a point where you want to make it into a fighter-bomber, like say having more strong fighters like Reppuu Model 11 and Reppuu Kai Ni, or it's not useful at all in that regard?
Find myself using F4U-1Ds quite frequently now, to keep AA up while also enjoying the CVCIs.

Holy moly, I've just witnessed another example of the \jp\ magic. Entered the boss battle with Samu, Ooi and John at chuuha, night battle started with only Abukuma at green, then FF came in and left only two first enemy ships at half HP. At the end, John's TCI saved the day.
