I just realised you can use Nazeka to read its own J-J definitions when they have words you can't understand.

>add j-j dictionary
>hover over word
>press m to open mining interface
>hover over unknown words in the definition in the mining interface

Seems like it could be a good way of making the >MonolingualTransition™. Less horrible than mining the dictionary, at least.

If only there was some way to have it so that JMDICT was disabled normally and in the mining interface and only appeared when hovering over words in the mining interface, and vice versa, to make it so that the J-J dictionary was enabled normally but didn't show up when hovering over words in the mining interface, but I don't think that's possible.

If you're really that opposed to using one though, I guess you can give your brief thoughts on the following issues instead:
1) Should immigration to your country be made harder?
2) Did Hitler do anything wrong?
3) Should civilian ownership of weapons be restricted?
4) Should consenting adults be allowed to do anything they want (so long as they don't infringe upon another person's rights in the process)?
5) Is taxation theft?
6) Do you believe in the welfare state?
7) Should pornography be banned? Should the government enforce traditional morality?
8) Do you believe in freedom of religion? State religion or separation of church and state?
9) Is a one party state desirable? Is a state in the first place desirable?
10) Should freedom of speech and civil liberties be expanded?
11) Does the government need to protect people from themselves?

I think that should be enough to give a general idea of where you lean politically.

>1) Should immigration to your country be made harder?
I live in Germany and it's a big issue. I think legal migration of skilled migrants that will be a net plus to our societies is a good thing. However all forms of illegal migration has to be eliminated and the hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants in Germany should be deported immediately. And non citizens should not have access to any sort of state funds. I think the European borders needs to be secured a lot more heavily & I'm for national border controls as well.

>2) Did Hitler do anything wrong?
Yeah.

>3) Should civilian ownership of weapons be restricted?
I don't have a strong opinion on this one. For America I feel like restricting gun ownership is a useless endeavour but it's different for Europe. Either position on gun ownership when it comes to Europe wouldn't sway my decision for the party I'd vote for. If gun ownership was legal I'd probably own one.
If you mean in terms of less lethal weapons like I don't know pepper spray or whatever, think those should be fully legal (pretty sure it's not right now).

>4) Should consenting adults be allowed to do anything they want (so long as they don't infringe upon another person's rights in the process)?
It depends.

>5) Is taxation theft?
Depends on how it's used. I think a certain amount of taxation is necessary for maintenance of public services, infrastructure, national protection but it becomes theft once that money is given away to people that are not the taxpayers like third world shitholes in forms of development aid or fueling illegal migration or those wages we pay our politicians and the whole elderly care system.

>6) Do you believe in the welfare state?
I think a certain amount of welfare state is a reality that is inevitable as western countries gradually lose the need for unskilled labor. However there is certain restrictions that should be in place for a healthy welfare state to exist which are not in place right now.

>7) Should pornography be banned? Should the government enforce traditional morality?
Pornography shouldn't be banned.
The government should encourage traditional morality yes. I think the decline of the traditional family leads to nothing but an increased output of failed individuals.

>8) Do you believe in freedom of religion? State religion or separation of church and state?
To a degree. I don't believe in shit but I think religion benefits a lot of people in their lives. It should be a private thing.
I think however there is an overlap between religion and politics like for example in Islam which I'd mostly outlaw and not want in Europe.

>9) Is a one party state desirable? Is a state in the first place desirable?
I'm not principally against a one party state. I think nation states are an irreversible reality.

>10) Should freedom of speech and civil liberties be expanded?
Yeah.

>11) Does the government need to protect people from themselves?
It depends I think. Again.
11) and 4) are kind of too vague and I play through both the philosophical ideal and reality in my head and it's hard to really reach a definitive conclusion sorry about not being clear on that.

To be honest thinking about some of these made me realize that I don't really care about a lot of shit and that ultimately I'm fine with sitting by the sidelines and watching the ship crash but it still pisses me off being associated with left wingers lol.

They were intentionally worded the way they were to see if you were a libertarian or something along those lines (in which case, you would've been able to answer the first with a straight "yes" and the second with a flat "no" without having to think about it).

Also, fuck, I meant to add a question asking your thoughts on free market vs. protectionism but I forgot.

Generally no if the county is decentralized and or has strong social pressures that keeps people in check
>4) Should consenting adults be allowed to do anything they want (so long as they don't infringe upon another person's rights in the process)?
define rights
>5) Is taxation theft?
By definition taxation is not theft because theft is breaking the law and taxation is law.
>6) Do you believe in the welfare state?
Generally yes as long as it UBI
>7) Should pornography be banned? Should the government enforce traditional morality?
Ideally porn shouldn't need to be banned in the first place and traditional morality can only be enforce successfully by culture and religion

Yes.
>9) Is a one party state desirable? Is a state in the first place desirable?

>5) Is taxation theft?

Yup
>9) Is a one party state desirable? Is a state in the first place desirable?
Without a state a large group of people can't be controlled, and since we have a lot of people on this planet rn we need a state. One party state isn't desirable just because people are fucking stupid and when you only let one person rule things go even more horrible.
>10) Should freedom of speech and civil liberties be expanded?

I think it highly depends on what you are trying to achieve. For learning kanji it's a bad idea to have a complete sentece with audio. But if you dont give a fuck about kanji at all, it's way more efficient. I want to learn how a word sounds and in what context it is being used. Single words on front would be increadibly crippling. If you want kanji and understanding, probably a mix of both would be great.

but you can tell some people here have very autistic personality types and they have to make things more difficult than need be to believe they’re achieving something even though they’re just making their lives unnecessarily harder
i noticed that about QM specifically. like how he feels the need to add words like 兵権 to his anime card deck despite already knowing 兵士 and 権力

B2 is explicitly labelled "intermediate".

Anyway, I take that as a "no" - there is not a single success story for vocab cards. All anyone can do when asked it nitpick over the definition of "fluency" to try and distract from the issue.

I'm confused as to why you think "intermediate" means "fluent". Intermediate = in the middle. Fluency is not a mid-tier level, it's a top-tier level.

hm i googled the definition and i didn't see anything about "top-tier", moreover if you ask most people they don't say anything like that either, they just allude to some vague competency which sounds kinda similar to b2. there's a lot of wiggle room in "top tier". what one person would consider intermediate, another could lump in with advanced.

oh and i guess the answer to your question is no.

btw I don't know how good moogy is but I know jamal fan is pretty good without Anki
and yeah you can also do it with sentence cards
but it's not the most efficient way of going about it, both those approaches have flaws that make them inferior to context vocabulary cards like anime cards and the audio specifically serves a purpose

to me the value of any card type is in your ability to correctly understand the word in the next context you see it in. the card itself is not the end game!
if you can recognize and understand the word in a different anime, book, game etc 3 weeks later, then the card has done its job.
any card that reliably results in that outcome works just fine.

You see, the nature of the male is not to articulate his inner emotions and thoughts. The complaint across the board in relationships is that men don’t communicate. There are so many relationships between men and their fathers in which the father is the authoritarian or provider for his son, but he tends not to have the ability to extend a simple ‘I love you,’ or ‘I’m proud of you.’ This often leaves the male wounded and constantly seeking acceptance. This wounded man grows up with insecurities, introversion, and lots of anger, but this doesn’t have to be the case.

it’s true though. don’t compare your progress to some “ideal perfectly efficient path of progress” (that almost no one achieves, most people have wasted at least some time). compare your progress to zero. to playing english video games all day instead, or any other way you could be wasting time. from that perspective you can more clearly see what you’ve accomplished.

In all honesty, I started in 2012, and made a bunch of failed attempts over the years. It wasn't until some time in 2017 I think when I finally got on the right track and in the right mindset and actually started making progress.

All the wasted time I spend getting nowhere came down to not understanding how language learning worked. I was confusing learning a language with learning about a language, so whenever I would try reading anything and find "this is really hard, I can't understand anything", I would conclude that I hadn't studied grammar enough yet and would go back to to reading Tae Kim, Imabi, DoJG, etc. until I just gave up because I was bored to tears and getting nowhere.

I honestly owe it to the AJATT site for getting me past that stage. I didn't take the AJATT method itself on-board (beyond just trying to read and listen a lot), but the articles on the site really helped correct my misconceptions and motivate me to just go out there and get inputting without caring whether or not I sucked and could barely understand anything. Without it, I would probably still be an eternal beginner dekinai.

QM’s anime cards have a lot of merit to them and despite taking more time to make than single word cards, they’ll give more bang for your buck long term. i mean it’s combining concentrated recognition, meaning, context AND listening practice in one place. can’t get much better than that.
more people would progress faster if they were doing them and had the discipline to keep it up. even half anime cards half word cards would lead to faster progress than what most people are doing. but a lot are lazy and unfocused here and hate the idea of studying or sticking to one method long-term rather than theorycrafting all day.

not to be rude or anything but this logic is twisted and backwards. having the audio and text on a card means that you have endless opportunities to practice listening and associating the written language to the sounds. that’s how you get better and better at comprehending audio. not by avoiding audio. the more you listen the more you will understand which is the point when you are *learning*.

It's apples and oranges, there's no meaningful way to say which you should play first, they're too different.

I would recommend Mahosho more readily, however, as it's more accessible (modern engine instead of RPG maker 2000), is about half as long, and you don't need a bunch of warnings about the missable true end like Tobiden.

It's probably not the best game for a young DJTer to play though, the main criticism of the game I have is that the first half is a slow burn and that kind of thing is really exacerbated if you have the reading speed of a slug. (Also it regularly dips into hard sci fi which isn't a problem but it's worth mentioning.)

you need to actually sit down with one and put some serious time into it. once you get hooked on it you'll keep playing, even if you don't finish it you'll still feel satisfied. i'd recommend going thru what you've got, making list of it, and picking something at random if you're really that ambivalent
