It was written very early in the Bernkastel conceptualization. Remember that Ryukishi had the idea of an "oversoul" (in the 1800's sense) but not much apart from that. It makes sense for the oversoul Bernkatel to be involved with Miyo. It makes narrative sense, which by then, we had only Higurashi, so it made all the sense in the world.

You can certainly construe a good explanation for Umineko!Bern to be involved. She's a witch of miracle, liking bad story ending badly on a stroke of luck. That's perfectly in character for her. But by then Ryukishi wasnt really certain about the idea of the oversoul Bernkastel.

Even by Umineko episode 2/3 you can see a change in Bern. If you look very closely. The conceptual space for the character changed with time, and it's very present in Umineko episode 2/3. As the idea matured, you know.

There's actually more than you'd expect from a series like this. Higurashi has about 200 different doujinshi on sadpanda, while Umineko's got about 70. Both series have a number of unscanned works, as well as many, MANY non-h doujinshi. Higurashi in particular has entire anthologies of non-h doujinshi that, when added up, surpass the official manga in total length.

I like how the atmosphere of the story and the general state of the city is completely different in each season. Going back to the first one is pretty refreshing and enjoyable knowing everything that happens later.

The one flaw of the story is that the first season doesn't do enough to engage you or make you actually care about the characters beyond finding them very entertaining. It's a pretty fun arc, but it feels like a giant introduction/setup more than an important part of the story.

Higurashi has the most... likeable? cast, I think. It really hurts to remember the shit that happens to the characters, or even the backstories or some characters like Irie. That shit is fucked up. It may be nostalgia, but the Higurashi cast has a special place in my heart and they feel like good old friends.

The Umineko cast is the most real and psychologically complex, in my opinion. I don't care about their fates that much, maybe because the story establishes early on that they are fucked no matter what, but they are really interesting to analyze.

The Higanbana cast is very relatable in a strange way. It makes some stories kind of painful to read. It's also the most comfy and nostalgic somehow, even though it appears to be the opposite.

The RGD cast is entertaining as hell and they have the best slice of life by far. Ryuukishi really improved his writing in a lot of ways with this story, not a single part feels dull or dragged on. The characters also end up feeling like absolute legends and their interactions get very interesting as the story goes on.

It doesn't focus on the politics that much. It's more like the early parts of Umineko where the Ushiromiya argue about the inheritance and outsmart each other. After all the magic and crazy ass meta universe that Umineko introduced, which expanded the scale of the series massively, it's pretty nice to read RGD and go back to the good old "alternate reality where X thing happened differently" concept from Higurashi. I recommend playing the fighting minigame as intended, it really gives the fights more tension and makes them feel satisfying, as silly as it sounds.

For some reason, many people assume that the game won't progress unless they "win" the fights (which isn't the case at all) and resort to using the space bar, which automatically wins the fight for you and practically skips the whole thing.

I recommend not using the space bar at all, because that's just lame and a literal skip button for people without hands or something. Even if the fights get tough and you take a few hits, you'll still progress regardless. It's very nicely done because the difficulty will scale to your abilities and go up or down depending on your skill.

The score is just for bragging rights, so don't worry too much about it.

Reverse image searching, scouring japanese blog posts, tracking down the right magazine, then finally buying an E-book version and screenshotting every page before taking it into photoshop to crop and resave them one by one. The old sprites are better at conveying the information that Ryukishi was actually trying to communicate. It's kind of difficult to explain but some of the new sprites look like they convey a totally different emotion compared to the old sprite equivalent and some characters just give you a completely different "feel" (e.g. Natsuhi).

New sprites probably look better as a standalone artwork but the old sprites work better with the story

This will be a bit of a tangent, but I want to post this so I can see if my prediction comes true for Saku. I finished reading Carl Jung's Undiscovered Self and Symbols and the Interpretation of Dreams when a particular set of paragraphs drew my eye. Before I talk about why the passages drew my eye, I think it would be important to discuss the book itself.

The Undiscovered Self is about the disconnect that mankind has created between the subconscious and the conscious mind and how that disconnect manifested itself into various neuroses and psychological disorders. This manifested itself into WWII because mankind, in general, had become more industrious and dangerous while not coming any closer to understanding the way the psyche works and learning how communicate with it. Society developed a mass neurosis and that lead to the death of millions of people. Carl Jung's fix for this is to bridge the gap between the subconscious mind with it's irrational aspects and the conscious mind with its fixation on rationality.

How does this relate to Umineko and my prediction for Saku? To put it simply it is the collective neuroses (Krauss' delusions of grandeur, Natsuhi's abusive tendencies, Eva's controlling personality, Rudolf's general sliminess) of the Urishomiya family that lead to the ultimate split in personality that is the Witch Beatrice who performs the murders in 1986. Now the money issues that contribute to the tragedy are certainly important, but even when the problems of the inheritance are solved, it Bern's word on Lion's miracle kakera can be trusted, the tragedy still occurs. Now I can't say for certain what causes that tragedy to occur, but I can say that it shows that money will not fix the tragedy of 1986. I do have a prediction on what will fix the tragedy and that is Battler mending the split between Beatrice, Shannon, and Kanon. Not solely because it will stop Beatrice from committing the murders, but because it will allow Battler and Beato to foil any plot the family may have to seize the fortune for his or herself. They must be able to rationally understand the plots, but also irrationally forgive any attempts at murder or plotting to seize the fortune to avoid the tragedy of the family falling apart.

The money is a part of Rule X as described in the manga. Rule Y is that what happens in a closed room stays in a closed room, but Rule Z (Somebody please help me) states that in order for the tragedy to be undone Battler, the piece, has to come to understand Yasu and the nature of Beatrice.
The thing is I think Okonogi is a secondary culprit. He is paid by Eva and Hideyoshi (long term business associates) and they have in place to help them if they run into trouble. The problem is that he hears about the gold and decides he wants it for himself. Yasu's plot plays into this giving him an opportunity to pin it on someone else. However if Yasu can create closed rooms, Yasu can destroy them. There isn't a trick Okonogi could pull that could beat the full arsenal of Yasu and Battler's reasoning.
