The prospect of working is something I really dread, I've never had a job, and I dropped out of highschool and then also community college, I don't even have a high school diploma or ged (don't ask how I went to community college without one, I'm not sure myself really). I definitely don't want to go to university, so I've thought about trades, but I don't feel I'd fit in with the sort of person usually doing those jobs even if I like hands-on stuff. Which basically leaves IT or programing, IT from what I know would be easier (although I do want to learn to program anyway) and a friend works in IT and makes decent money despite having no degree and dropping out of university. I'd rather not get a job, but that's unfortunately unrealistic and I don't want to really live with my parents untill they die.

I think the reason why there are so many unhappy jobless young men nowadays are people who tell them to pursue what they like and are interested in. This makes them believe that working is supposed to be easy and fun, something that you enjoy doing. But the fact is it never was and never will be. So when they finally get a job, they face the brutal reality - you're not supposed to have fun, you're supposed to work. It was like this since forever, and no one said stuff about following your dreams.
Your parents, neighbours, friends, people you pass by on the street - do you think they go to work with a smile on their faces? They hate working as much as you do, but they have realistic expectations.

Young men are unhappy for lots of reasons but it's not for excess of leisure, it's usually for lack of human communication or meaningful accomplishments. Practically all great things in human history were created by "NEETS", aka those wealthy enough not to have to slave away for someone else and do what they want.

I wish I would have never started working because I fell into the trap of normalcy. I was just like you, OP. I feel like I betrayed everyone on /jp/, including myself. Thirty with no education meant I could only get jobs with teenagers. Things were actually good for a while, one of them took a liking to me and would always be really excited to work with me and she would text me fairly often with the occasional phone call when she was really bored. It was really easy talking to her for some reason. Things took a turn for the worse when instead of meeting up at some place to grab some food, she asked if she could come over so we could watch a movie. I agreed, because she was like a little sister to me and I thought it would be fun. Well, she came over, we watched the movie, then she left. Then she started acting much more coldly towards me. I could kind of piece things together after the fact, I think she was expecting me to make a move. I ended up quitting shortly after because I've always had problems seeing myself as attractive physically, mentally, or emotionally and I hated knowing that this girl may have actually liked me. Now instead of being fine being alone and spending time with myself, I actually feel lonely. It's a new feeling to me and it's such a bad feeling. I miss getting those useless daily updates and occasional calls from her, because she was always so cheerful that it rubbed off on me. I miss her hugs and how she would use me as a leaning post. Don't make the same mistakes I did.

My advice to you, OP, is to not make friends with any of your coworkers. Go in, do your job, then go home. The upside is that now I have money to be NEET for a very long time and my whole setup has been upgraded.

This is one of the first threads I've seen since I've come back here and I'm sorry for even making it. I hope it will serve as a warning to everybody thinking about getting a job.

Tfw now I'm feeling conflicted. I thought by "removing" myself from the society that means I'm rebelling against society. Kind of like Buddha suppressing his desires in order to rise up above humanity, don't you think that's kind of a pure unadulterated arrogance there? But now it really makes me think, that being NEET might actually giving society what they want. But I don't really want to fight nature at my weakest point (desperately trying to become a normalfag when I'm not and thus being bullied and destroyed by natural normalfags). I have the desire to cheat into success and I do think that developing a new product into market is one of those things that will make you ascended. Also, don't restrict yourself not socializing, there are good people out there. Usually most of young people are shit because they're still easily influenced by the crowd and all. The point is don't give your "desire to fit in" a priority in your life, but your happiness is more important. I learned this the hard way when I was late teenager

I’ve read Dazai and I can’t relate to him since I’m a mega virgin and so rest of /jp/sies. Being a NEET is an active way from a person to remove himself from the shackles of society’s expectations and values that more often than not doesn’t really make people but rather people just follow it since they think that’s the right thing because everybody does. Lack of introspection and a shallow analysis on oneself and society causes this. Being a NEET also means to become a half epicurean since they wager on the potential of pleasure that they can get from life compared to normalfags yet they still can experience peace, wholesomeness, something that hard line normalfags often can’t attain since they believe that nature is savage and it’s supposed to be like that

I was a NEET, posting on this board 10 years ago. I now earn a very good living, still posting on this board after ten years. If you can get away with being NEET and it's not being a drain on society then go for it... but for most people it leaves them with a lack of agency and this is not the natural state of being for free-willed individuals. We feel the best when we are independent and have a sense of personal efficacy. Living off of your parents into your late-20s and beyond isn't going to give most people a lot of that. No judgment, of course. I miss sleeping in and having enough free time to enjoy and enrich myself with the things that interest me.

The question is how do one become a true NEET? When I was in college, I wasn't a NEET but I had "NEET spirit" where I don't care about social mumbo jumbos. But now, I'm a NEET but I have "normalfag spirit" because of /pol/ and alpha-beta shenanigans. Looking back, I was genuinely happy back then when I was a college boy with NEET spirit. I get things done and all, unlike now, even though I may start to look at reality in a less cluttered way, more often than not I got slumped in a depressed state. Sure maybe the motive for me of having NEET spirit was to rebel against society and its expectation and all. But looking back I felt genuine happiness back then and I want to go back. That happens to many people regardless of being NEET or not.
Happened to me while I was still working. I went through a phase where I could not finish any games whatsoever. Not just 100%/plat shit, but even the basic storyline, while trying to do only that. And not due to lack of time, but indeed genuinely feeling like every form of entertainment is just a chore.
I got over it. Before quitting my job, even.
Like one day it just stopped. I picked up a game and just ignored that it could be considered a chore, then that just stuck.

But, totally related since you mentioned contemplating existence, my answer to Existentialism is Absurdism.
That may indeed be the coward's way out, self-deception, demonaic madness, or whatever else may be said of it. But I do believe it to be a valid answer.
The conflict between man's incessant need to find meaning and the world's apparent lack of meaning is absurd.
It is up to man to create that meaning.
Or, in times where creating meaning may seem impossible to a debilitating degree, reject that need and laugh at the concept.

Nihilism isn't worth throwing everything away over unless you're going to end it all straight out.
Since you're not going to kill yourself, stop wasting time on it; it's absurd and damages your experience as a living creature.
Basically, if you're not going to treat it as an absolute, stop worrying that it might be one.

it's a bunch of hogwash. the "created" meaning they talk of is just as fragile as the meaning that your society and religion and schools tried to impart on your life.

All meaning is fragile. Everything has a short lifespan. Sure. (Generally speaking, anyway. It's not looking true for the general currencies of the world, where people have created meaning in the power trade has over other people. That shit's strong and hard to break because it's fucking useful.)
Regardless, that shouldn't stop you from creating more. Or, if that proves impossible, laughing at the difficult conflict that you personally seek out which causes you such trouble.
If you're still hoping there is some meaning, then you will not treat nihilism as absolute and just end your experience as is.
So why torture yourself over it?
What meaning could be gained from doing nothing?
Are you some kind of masochist?

Even Lay Down And Rot shit doesn't advocate doing absolutely nothing. Because rotting is a process, and you have to keep anxiety at bay by doing pointless shit. Can't rot if you're worrying about rotting.
Even THAT would give a superior experience to pure nihilism.
Yes, your experience matters for your choice of actions. Especially since you haven't ended it.
Even if nothing matters in the grand scheme of things, that is NOT what you experience personally.
You are a person, not the entire universe.

All you need to maintain such illusions is force of will. You do have the time to train discipline for that.
If you can't handle that then yeah, you should probably stop NEETing.
Then again, if you can't handle that then you very likely can't handle other people who can. So just dying would probably be best.

You'd probably die ``desu''.
With humans as they are, communism is simply infeasible and dangerous. It's incompatible with humanity.

Taking from those who work and giving the results away for free is incredibly, incredibly, unbelievably demotivating.
Capitalism at least capitalizes on greed to keep people productive. Communism requires violent force due to its inherently demotivating nature and STILL can't produce enough to keep its population, well, not starving.
You'd have to have incredibly strong willpower and tolerance, to work within a society that doesn't require it. The majority of the population does not.
And if you do manage to work strong enough to support the population, you won't get rewarded for it at all. Hell, you'll be punished.
Any excess property turns you into the enemy, and will get you either killed or stolen from until you're starving like everyone else.

If ALL people involved did NOT need reward or motivation, could work despite it not being required, and strongly, strongly believe in classless ideals, then yes, communism could work.
But that's not the case.

Then, on top of that, you have the problem of conflicting morality.
Every single person thinks they'd be better at implementing their systems in a more ideal way. Which leads to either constant neverending redundant revolutions, or suppression with force.
Usually they end up killing every human they deem incompatible with the system. Which is pretty much everyone, eventually. And the few left can't actually support life.

>The majority of the population does not.
This is where you're going wrong. The majority of people were born to be slaves, they enjoy it. The idea of "from each according to his ability, to each according his needs" will result in NEETs rising to the top to fulfil their natural vocation off the back of the "proletariat" wagecuck class, who by their very nature can only be a producer and are not capable of transcendence.

I think after a year of not having a job and not really doing anything, the average person starts to find things that are similar to work, such as MMOs or big automation projects in Minecraft or Factorio or games in general, all while falling into a pit of NEETdom and depression.

I'm not sure how you're meant to escape this though, it's hard enough to climb out but the motivation to actually do so is really lacking considering there's no "middleground" where I could work for 4 days and have 3 days off, or work for a certain amount of hours only.

I seek to fill some meaning into my life trough work, but I don't want to sacrifice everything about life for it.

>> No.21456807

>>21456519
They may enjoy work itself, but not without reward. People quit their jobs all the time for not being compensated properly. Any position that fails to reward its worker does not last.
A society that does not require work and spreads the result of work to everyone regardless of how much they work is inherently demotivating. Yes, even for wagecucks. Especailly for wagecucks. That removes their challenge, their status, their reward, their motivation; which makes them want to not work, simple as is.

It's not slavery, really, because there is plenty of choice for who to work for or what job to do. With agreed upon contracts, even. That's all voluntary, without use of force.
People are usually treated as (voluntary) resources, not property.
Since communism fails to keep its population productive without force (Usually violent), THAT would be far closer to slavery. It's either slavery or poverty/death, usually a combination of both even with excessive violent force to try and motivate workers.

Regardless, you can't rise to the top. Being on top requires being aggressive and successfully suppressing everyone else. NEETs do not have that power or influence.
Depending on specific ideals, much of the supposed goal is to prevent any group from being on top in the first place. And people will make damn sure that's enforced, out of spite.
In such a system, if any group seems to be standing above others they will be attacked. Regardless of whether they're standing above others due to being productive and "earning" it, or due to refusing to work and taking all benefits available from others. The well off are always the evil bourgeois that must be killed, even if they're the lowly farmers. History has proven that time and time again.

I started working in trades after about 7 years of NEETdom and picking a few jobs from time to time.
It was HARD at the beginning but I am so busy that I can barely remember my anxiety, so I would say it is much better then being a NEET.
I barely talk and I am sure I sometimes act like an autist but these old people treat me well because I was enthusiastic about my job and didn't act like an asshole.

I'm a helper right now and I learned a bit about a few trades while working here, so I can recommend you a few things:
Welding: You can be a brainlet as long as you practice enough and learn a few things from the internet/books/actual welders. Experience doesn't matter as long as you can pass the welding test and/or certification. You can start with a small investment and some scrap metal.
Pipe fitter: If you know enough trigonometry it's very easy to learn starting as a helper.
Electrician: It has more depth but it isn't really hard. (This is what I am doing right now)

These are fairly easy and doesn't take much to learn.
If you have the $$ I recommend a welding school.

A lot of people do, while they're still at least physically distracted with work of some sort. Then they give up on that work and get a ton of free time but completely lack the discipline to use it productively, and fall into some pretty gnarly downward spirals.
Personally, I don't have much mental problems there most of the time, because I do have the discipline to keep at SOMETHING at least. But most don't.

Im a merchandiser for a salami company. It pays above mininum wage and offers autonomous working conditions; the company's head office is in a city on the other side of the country and, given that its a small company that only really trades within the country, doesnt have satellite offices. By autonomous working conditions I mean I operate on my own without a boss or coworkers to report to, aside from this: the job involves travelling around to different supermarkets and stocking the shelves with my company's products, as well as making the shelves look as good as they can, and relaying and concerns, ideas etc to my manager. Usually, there is a regional sales manager who I report to via email and occasionally text message, and I would rarely see him in person. However, the previous one left suddenly - or got fired, I'm unsure - and for the past few months I've been reporting to the national sales manager who works at the head office, so I've been on my own without issue. Aside from those two people, I talk a little bit to the chilled department managers at the stores I visit about displays, things that need doing and so on. Im scheduled to work 12 hours per week but usually complete my duties in about 8 across 3 days. I know some merchandisers work more hours than me, but I just do this as a part time job.

I'd very much recommend a job like this if you don't have fantastic qualifications and aren't able to go into trades for whatever reason. However, the major limitation is that you need your own car and drivers license. I get paid a rebate for each kilometer I do, which more than covers the cost of petrol, and helps pay for car maintenance etc. Aside from that, you need to be honest and consistent and able to at least talk a little bit with the people who work at the stores. Occasionally a customer will ask you something, but those times are rare. I have a reasonably bad stutter and it doesnt impair my ability to work there

When I think about things I'd like to do, (improving at art, learning Japanese, gamedev etc) or try to work at them, I often just think about how daunting it is, and that I'll never get there, and become discouraged instead of motivated to work towards my goals. Is there a way to fix this sort of thinking, or am I doomed to be a defeatist loser.

Don't rely on motivation. Motivation is fickle. The emotion anyway. Logical motivation like reaching goals and reasoning for it is fine. But the emotion of motivation is absolutely unreliable; not something you should need to even start things.
Hell, it usually only comes AFTER starting things and getting into the game of progressing and/or completing them.
If you have to rely on things like motivation or fun entirely to guide your actions then you'll quickly end up doing nothing.
Especially if you get into the mindset that ANYTHING is daunting or troublesome. Like no shit. Every task takes energy, be it physical or mental. Get over that or suffer. Some things are worth it.

Turn things you want to do into a habit. I wake up every morning, and I do my reps. Why? Because I want to learn Japanese, and because I do my reps every morning.

If I woke up one morning and decided "I don't feel like doing my reps today", that would be tantamount to saying "I feel like wasting the past few years of my time today".

You don't take breaks. You can't take breaks. If you take a "break", a day will turn into a week will turn into a year. Worrying about how "daunting" something is just means that you'll sit there for the next decade wishing you started learning yesterday.

When I start things I just start them. Starting is hard sometimes but you need to start and then it's just a matter of keeping up momentum. Sometimes I can't work without a deadline so maybe you should set a schedule for yourself.
In particular:
>improving at art, learning Japanese, gamedev
Those don't have to be exclusive. I know Japanese to a degree, and I just play games in Japanese. I don't texthook or anything so the more I waste my time playing, the more I learn. I'm not good at listening but I'm trying to make that jump this year and be able to just watch raw anime too.(I can probably already watch children's anime, but my ability to distinguish words is pretty poor.) If you're developing games or learning art, you can just think about how you'd dev a game while you play it, or look up Japanese art tutorials. Drawing is like learning a language, you just need to practice and you can just make a quick sketch every day or just draw bits of things you like to train your hand to do that. Making reading Japanese and drawing things part of your life and not just something you disrupt your life to work at.

The most important thing to do is to not fantasize about results and be happy with what you can do. Nothing's stopping you from drawing your dream ideas in a poor fashion and then redrawing them better later. Also to realize that if you don't want to do something, you might actually not like doing it.

there are ways to be kind of a neet & still make money. Personally I've made apps for android & made some money and I am a self-taught hack, now I am making a website that can be monetized, don't know yet what will come out of this. Some people even make money from personal blogs and there some sites types that are specifically for making money, like promoting amazon links by doing "fake" (or not) reviews etc through I am not going that way yet. &for anons who say staff like girls can masturbate all day for money, guys can fucking play video games on yt\twitch and I am not even sure whats more profitable if you are good at this and some pros in cybersport make not literally millions $ without top education or prospects etc. This is just from the top of my head.

Girls don't have to masturbate or play games at all. They can just show cleavage and get insane amounts of money from horny children on twitch.

Cybersports are incredibly competitive. You can't just start playing without a ton of effort and expect any money. It takes a lot of fucking work. Doesn't matter if it's a game you're working at, it's fucking work. Very few even profit at all, nonetheless enough to sustain living off it alone.

And either sex could, hypothetically, do it. Though women tend to be far less directly competitive and only really manipulate rather than strive. So there's obviously more males doing so, which obviously makes the playing field more difficult.

Dear GOD/GODS and/or anyone else who can HELP ME (e.g. MEMBERS OF SUPER-INTELLIGENT ALIEN CIVILIZATIONS):

The next time I wake up, please change my physical form to that of FINN MCMILLAN of SOUTH NEW BRIGHTON at 8 YEARS OLD and keep it that way FOREVER.

I am so sick of this chubby Asian man body!

Thank you!
