The prospect of working is something I really dread, I've never had a job, and I dropped out of highschool and then also community college, I don't even have a high school diploma or ged (don't ask how I went to community college without one, I'm not sure myself really). I definitely don't want to go to university, so I've thought about trades, but I don't feel I'd fit in with the sort of person usually doing those jobs even if I like hands-on stuff. Which basically leaves IT or programing, IT from what I know would be easier (although I do want to learn to program anyway) and a friend works in IT and makes decent money despite having no degree and dropping out of university. I'd rather not get a job, but that's unfortunately unrealistic and I don't want to really live with my parents untill they die.

I think the reason why there are so many unhappy jobless young men nowadays are people who tell them to pursue what they like and are interested in. This makes them believe that working is supposed to be easy and fun, something that you enjoy doing. But the fact is it never was and never will be. So when they finally get a job, they face the brutal reality - you're not supposed to have fun, you're supposed to work. It was like this since forever, and no one said stuff about following your dreams.
Your parents, neighbours, friends, people you pass by on the street - do you think they go to work with a smile on their faces? They hate working as much as you do, but they have realistic expectations.

Outside of work I still need to have social/family obligations (western individualism doesn't exist in my life cause I live in fucking rural Asia) and focusing on managing/getting good at creating those passive income that I don't have any time for drawing/playing music, at most I only have time to read manga/novel/book then I'm too tired to even create/practice anything

I'm lucky that I have a lot of meaningful relationships of course but my dream of having enough time to do what I want is a thing of the past. Does that mean I start to become a real adult now? I dunno but this does feel like shit

I was a washer in a foodstuff factory and got carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists. Held that job for almost a year. One day after sick leave ended I just didn't go to work.

I wish I would have never started working because I fell into the trap of normalcy. I was just like you, OP. I feel like I betrayed everyone on /jp/, including myself. Thirty with no education meant I could only get jobs with teenagers. Things were actually good for a while, one of them took a liking to me and would always be really excited to work with me and she would text me fairly often with the occasional phone call when she was really bored. It was really easy talking to her for some reason. Things took a turn for the worse when instead of meeting up at some place to grab some food, she asked if she could come over so we could watch a movie. I agreed, because she was like a little sister to me and I thought it would be fun. Well, she came over, we watched the movie, then she left. Then she started acting much more coldly towards me. I could kind of piece things together after the fact, I think she was expecting me to make a move. I ended up quitting shortly after because I've always had problems seeing myself as attractive physically, mentally, or emotionally and I hated knowing that this girl may have actually liked me. Now instead of being fine being alone and spending time with myself, I actually feel lonely. It's a new feeling to me and it's such a bad feeling. I miss getting those useless daily updates and occasional calls from her, because she was always so cheerful that it rubbed off on me. I miss her hugs and how she would use me as a leaning post. Don't make the same mistakes I did.

My advice to you, OP, is to not make friends with any of your coworkers. Go in, do your job, then go home. The upside is that now I have money to be NEET for a very long time and my whole setup has been upgraded.

The question is how do one become a true NEET? When I was in college, I wasn't a NEET but I had "NEET spirit" where I don't care about social mumbo jumbos. But now, I'm a NEET but I have "normalfag spirit" because of /pol/ and alpha-beta shenanigans. Looking back, I was genuinely happy back then when I was a college boy with NEET spirit. Happened to me while I was still working. I went through a phase where I could not finish any games whatsoever. Not just 100%/plat shit, but even the basic storyline, while trying to do only that. I got over it. Before quitting my job, even.
Like one day it just stopped. I picked up a game and just ignored that it could be considered a chore, then that just stuck.

But, totally related since you mentioned contemplating existence, my answer to Existentialism is Absurdism.
That may indeed be the coward's way out, self-deception, demonaic madness, or whatever else may be said of it. But I do believe it to be a valid answer.

I just can't get a job. When I start looking to apply I notice all the bullshit requirements (previous experience in the field and having a cheerful personality are the two most bullshit ones) I just get tired and give up. You'd have to have incredibly strong willpower and tolerance, to work within a society that doesn't require it. The majority of the population does not.

I think after a year of not having a job and not really doing anything, the average person starts to find things that are similar to work, such as MMOs or big automation projects in Minecraft or Factorio or games in general, all while falling into a pit of NEETdom and depression.

I'm not sure how you're meant to escape this though, it's hard enough to climb out but the motivation to actually do so is really lacking considering there's no "middleground" where I could work for 4 days and have 3 days off, or work for a certain amount of hours only.

I started working in trades after about 7 years of NEETdom and picking a few jobs from time to time.
It was HARD at the beginning but I am so busy that I can barely remember my anxiety, so I would say it is much better then being a NEET.
I barely talk and I am sure I sometimes act like an autist but these old people treat me well because I was enthusiastic about my job and didn't act like an asshole.

I'm a helper right now and I learned a bit about a few trades while working here, so I can recommend you a few things:
Welding: You can be a brainlet as long as you practice enough and learn a few things from the internet/books/actual welders. Experience doesn't matter as long as you can pass the welding test and/or certification. You can start with a small investment and some scrap metal.
Pipe fitter: If you know enough trigonometry it's very easy to learn starting as a helper.
Electrician: It has more depth but it isn't really hard. (This is what I am doing right now)

These are fairly easy and doesn't take much to learn.
If you have the $$ I recommend a welding school.

Im a merchandiser for a salami company. It pays above mininum wage and offers autonomous working conditions; the company's head office is in a city on the other side of the country and, given that its a small company that only really trades within the country, doesnt have satellite offices. By autonomous working conditions I mean I operate on my own without a boss or coworkers to report to, aside from this: the job involves travelling around to different supermarkets and stocking the shelves with my company's products, as well as making the shelves look as good as they can, and relaying and concerns, ideas etc to my manager. Usually, there is a regional sales manager who I report to via email and occasionally text message, and I would rarely see him in person. However, the previous one left suddenly - or got fired, I'm unsure - and for the past few months I've been reporting to the national sales manager who works at the head office, so I've been on my own without issue. Aside from those two people, I talk a little bit to the chilled department managers at the stores I visit about displays, things that need doing and so on. Im scheduled to work 12 hours per week but usually complete my duties in about 8 across 3 days. I know some merchandisers work more hours than me, but I just do this as a part time job.

I'd very much recommend a job like this if you don't have fantastic qualifications and aren't able to go into trades for whatever reason. However, the major limitation is that you need your own car and drivers license. I get paid a rebate for each kilometer I do, which more than covers the cost of petrol, and helps pay for car maintenance etc. Aside from that, you need to be honest and consistent and able to at least talk a little bit with the people who work at the stores. Occasionally a customer will ask you something, but those times are rare. I have a reasonably bad stutter and it doesnt impair my ability to work there

Whether it's stressful or not depends on the job and classes, as well as your ambitions. As long as you can manage your time well, are capable of actually working at things, and don't worry over it, it's not stressful.
It's worth it to get some money as a safety buffer. Which is obviously worth it for life in general. You don't want to be in debt to usurers, at least. Preferably anyone.

Perhaps it's dumb to ask now since the thread will end soon, but how do you guys deal with drive and motivation. When I think about things I'd like to do, (improving at art, learning Japanese, gamedev etc) or try to work at them, I often just think about how daunting it is, and that I'll never get there, and become discouraged instead of motivated to work towards my goals. Is there a way to fix this sort of thinking, or am I doomed to be a defeatist loser.

Don't rely on motivation. Motivation is fickle. The emotion anyway. Logical motivation like reaching goals and reasoning for it is fine. But the emotion of motivation is absolutely unreliable; not something you should need to even start things.
Hell, it usually only comes AFTER starting things and getting into the game of progressing and/or completing them.
If you have to rely on things like motivation or fun entirely to guide your actions then you'll quickly end up doing nothing.
Especially if you get into the mindset that ANYTHING is daunting or troublesome. Like no shit. Every task takes energy, be it physical or mental. Get over that or suffer. Some things are worth it.

Turn things you want to do into a habit. I wake up every morning, and I do my reps. Why? Because I want to learn Japanese, and because I do my reps every morning.

If I woke up one morning and decided "I don't feel like doing my reps today", that would be tantamount to saying "I feel like wasting the past few years of my time today".

You don't take breaks. You can't take breaks. If you take a "break", a day will turn into a week will turn into a year. Worrying about how "daunting" something is just means that you'll sit there for the next decade wishing you started learning yesterday.

When I start things I just start them. Starting is hard sometimes but you need to start and then it's just a matter of keeping up momentum. Sometimes I can't work without a deadline so maybe you should set a schedule for yourself.

Those don't have to be exclusive. I know Japanese to a degree, and I just play games in Japanese. I don't texthook or anything so the more I waste my time playing, the more I learn. I'm not good at listening but I'm trying to make that jump this year and be able to just watch raw anime too.(I can probably already watch children's anime, but my ability to distinguish words is pretty poor.) If you're developing games or learning art, you can just think about how you'd dev a game while you play it, or look up Japanese art tutorials. Drawing is like learning a language, you just need to practice and you can just make a quick sketch every day or just draw bits of things you like to train your hand to do that. Making reading Japanese and drawing things part of your life and not just something you disrupt your life to work at.

The most important thing to do is to not fantasize about results and be happy with what you can do. Nothing's stopping you from drawing your dream ideas in a poor fashion and then redrawing them better later. Also to realize that if you don't want to do something, you might actually not like doing it.

there are ways to be kind of a neet & still make money. Personally I've made apps for android & made some money and I am a self-taught hack, now I am making a website that can be monetized, don't know yet what will come out of this. Cybersports are incredibly competitive. You can't just start playing without a ton of effort and expect any money. It takes a lot of fucking work. Doesn't matter if it's a game you're working at, it's fucking work. Very few even profit at all, nonetheless enough to sustain living off it alone.

And either sex could, hypothetically, do it. Though women tend to be far less directly competitive and only really manipulate rather than strive. So there's obviously more males doing so, which obviously makes the playing field more difficult.
