Just installed yomichan and a bit confused; some kanji have different pronunciations but the same meaning. I know they can have different pronunciations depending on if they are in compound or not but it's just the word on it's own so I'm not sure why there are many different things.

Yes. Read so you get better with kanji too, watch lots of sub'd anime which helps. Tae kim and dictionary of japanese grammar are for when you get burnt out and need some sort of english understanding, but still just skim their enlglish because you need the japanese in there only. yea, on any card that there is a sentence there is the corresponding audio to go with it. Picture size is limited but I might need to limit it some more after all. (my screen is 1440p so it might look bigger to you than it is in reality, though.)

as for removing stroke order font meh I like it, I like seeing the strokes because sometimes depending on the font/character it can be hard to tell even if I rarely look at it. maybe I'll just move it down or make it smaller dunno.

my concept with having the picture above the definition is that I wanted to separate my initial conception of the word from an english definition and instead have it primarily attach to a thought/idea/image but obviously for a lot of words that isn't entirely possible.

If you just mine every single new word you see you are going to fill your deck up with (relatively speaking) useless junk which will slow down your acquisition of (relatively speaking) useful vocabulary.

The idea behind mining rather than doing pre-made decks is that you mine the words which show up frequently in the specific input you consume instead of relying on some crappy one-size-fits-all frequency list which is going to have you memorizing lots of (again, relatively speaking) useless junk. Basically, you want to prioritize mining those words which you know you've encountered before at some point but which you struggle to read and/or remember the meanings of.

Once your vocabulary gets bigger and you're not encountering new words all that much anymore (to the point where you're struggling to meet your quota for new cards per day following the method above), that's the time when you should consider mining every new word you see. Alternatively, you could just let your new cards per day amount trail off (which it will eventually anyhow) and reduce the amount of time you need to spend on Anki each day. Don't worry about that for now though, you can cross that bridge when you get to it.

Is there a way I can find resources for vocab that's based on Hiragana only? Learning kanji and grammar is fine but there seems to be not a whole lot of info on all the words that are used in Hiragana unless it's Furigana.

The combo of daijirin and daijisen is the best for coverage. But there is value in looking at the smaller dictionaries.

Sanseido kokugo has the most modern slang. Meikyou is well balanced with modern meanings. Shinmeikai gives nuance to words you don't find in other dictionaries. Gendai Shin Kokugo is Sanseido kokugo's little brother with less words but I think better wording of the definitions. Iwanami kokgo has a way with defining words that I really like so I enjoy it as an alternative opinion. Benesse Hyogen Dokai has the least amount of words compared to everything else but it has easy to understand definitions and great example sentences.

I try to do AJATT/MIA but kind of suck at the immersion, only getting a few hours in each day. I don't get in much reading, mostly been just watching shows, and I listen to anime during walks and doing tedious things. I don't do the things like changing my language to Japanese, and I watch things in English. I know enough vocab (13k words) to read light novels and manga, but I haven't really gotten into anything besides some visual novels. I'm doing near Khatzumoto amounts of sentence cards, doing 40/day, so I'll probably be fluent at comprehension in a year or two when I hit 20k or 30k known words. At that point I can focus on consuming more content and outputting to get fluent.

You won't suddenly output complex arguments all of a sudden either, the same you don't start out by understanding lengthy sentences with 5 subclauses.

You can start with relatively easy sentences pretty quickly after you got a good enough grasp with your reading and the rest comes with just more exposure once more.
