How much time/labor consuming actually is it to make an anime if you can draw? How many keyframe per second we need for intense action sequences? What about still moving scenes?

I'm clearly naive but from my very short read on internet, assume that I want to make a 5 minute anime in 12 fps, and most of the scenes are still moving/very slight movement with 4 keyframes per second. It will need 4x60x5 = 1200 keyframes and with 8x60x5 = 2400 in between frames.

I'm a very beginner traditionalfag but I assume with the ease of Photoshop and Drawing Tablets, if both inbetween and key frames can be copy pasted a lot with minor modifications and the changes can be applied directly on computer, why the fuck the amount of doujin anime creator is very small? Sure it will tiring but I don't think it's really hard you know

Well, if you're going to modify an existing model in MMD, a couple of breast morphs can make you spend a night on 'em or a couple of hours, depending on what you have to work with and the mistakes you make at the initial stage.

Making a properly rigged character model from scratch is usually measured in hundreds of hours, from what I've heard. Even if you have a lot of experience. Like the guys at this link:

You really should practice drawing the face from more diverse angles. No matter the position and pose of the body, you always draw the face/head from a very similar angle. Experiment a bit, get outta your comfort zone.

And practice a wider variety of expressions - the eye shape should be dynamic and responsive to the rest of the face. Merely placing the eyebrows differently and making minor adjustments to the mouth don't cut it. Incorporate some light squinting, adjust the eyelids more etc.

How do I into gesture drawing, jaypee? I just want to capture the basic essence of an idea or pose. Even broken down into simple shapes it doesn't look "right", or at least how I imagine it should, the best I can do is simple poses. Looking at examples they can be really rough and use a ton of lines, but it still looks good. I'm not sure where I'm going wrong.

perhaps, but the point here is that anime people are still based on people, and it's far easier to stylize something you already know how to draw (i.e. turn real people into anime people) than to try and draw misshapen anime bodies from scratch.

Also regarding nibs, I do not own a tablet but I have read that the nibs do wear out and you can buy replacements. There is a trick I've heard of where you buy round lawn trimmer wire of the correct diameter and just cut/sand it to length for and extremely cheap lifetime supply of nibs (because you get like 100ft for a few bucks), but I cannot vouch for its effectiveness personally.

What is it you want? If you just want like the kind of flat weird looking stuff people with the weirdest of weird fetishes draw on Pixiv and DA, then that wouldn't take long. If you're completely indiscriminate, you can just get a porn posing game, position the characters and draw over that.

I don't have any advice for tablets other than to say, if you get one, draw with it instead of waiting to be good at traditional media and drawing with it. Tablets are kind of weird compared to just drawing so you'd have to get used to it again. Might as well learn to draw along with getting used to it.

Oh, I'm looking at a local store because Amazon has a crazy shipping where I live (not US). H1060P is 3~5x more expensive. But at the same price as CTL4100 I could get the H640P. Don't know if it's better or not overall, specs seems better (bigger/pressure level). The cheapest being the Huion 420, so $20, but I guess doesn't worth to go this cheap.

Serious question, should I finish a Touhou game I've been working on for the last couple of years even though Touhou is dying in popularity? The pending doom of the Touhou fandom has been discussed to death for the last couple of years, but I feel like nobody will be talking about Touhou outside of /jp/ soon if it keeps trending downward.

As an indie dev I don't care for money. I personally don't think fans should profit from Touhou, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't care about attention.

I would argue that nobody enjoys making an entire indie game by themselves. A game requires too many skillsets. During the development process you are destined to run into many problems that makes you hate your life.

Anyone who claims they like doing all of the above is lying to themselves. The programming alone could be further divided into AI, UI/UX, design patterns, and engine coding which are dramatically different coding skillsets. It would take a special human who enjoys doing all of the above. If I'm going to code a game I have to get something out of it. Be it money, attention, education, or a resume project. I was really into 2hu from 2008 to 2014, but like many westerners I lost interest in the series over time. The last 2hu game I completed was Touhou 12 (UFO). After 5 years of coding indie games I realized that I don't like making games. As I said here >>20952094 I don't think there's a human on Earth who enjoys making a game by themselves. An indie game requires that you solve at bare minimum 5,000 problems. Out of the 5k problems, I probably only enjoy solving 800 of them. Let anything be a problem. Like designing a character is one problem. Writing a plot is another problem. Choosing a collision detection algorithm is another problem.


I guess my (innocent) mindset 5 years ago was:

There's a large leap from "I like playing games, I'll like making games" that a lot of people seem to get fooled by. Personally, I don't like playing very many games, but found out I really like making them.

I find it hard to believe that anyone could enjoy making a full game by themselves. There's a lot of skillsets required to make a game. Art, animation, music, design, storytelling, ui, programming, etc.... Eventually you're going to run into something you hate. The only way to enjoy game programming is to use an existing engine or team up with folks who enjoy doing the stuff you hate. ZUN does everything himself, so maybe there are people out there who enjoy doing everything.

Most successful developers what they're good at and design a game around that, rather than trying to do what they can't. ZUN makes games in a genre he can show off his talent in music and programming while using minimal art assets and storytelling. You can draw very well, which is by far the most important thing. Looks like you understand timing and arcs too, so if you're at this level consistently it'll save you a ton of time. That said, you've probably realized on your own that it took a while for a single shot, and one that's not even tied down, cleaned up, colored, composited, or if you wanted to do it on ones, fully in-betweened.

You can get away with the bare minimum in most places as long as the good stuff is really good. Castlevania is pretty boring most of the time, but the fight scenes are so amazing people let it slide; it's all about learning where you can cut corners, and where you can't. Fast actions should be on ones, maybe ones and twos, whereas slow ones can be on twos or threes, and I even saw a Disney cartoon where a character in the background wasn't in-betweened at all. Richard Williams said as long as 2/3 of the frames look good, the other third can look awful and people won't mind.

So if you can animate, that's great. Can you write? Can you voice act? Compose shots that read clearly and make sense in sequence? Compose music? Do sound design? It's extremely rare you get someone who can do everything well, and even if they can, they'll often need some sort of help; help which isn't always available.

The thread you've mentioned was most likely a "Draw yourself with your fav. 2hu" thread. Now, I realize that we — the visitors of /jp/ — most probably have a lot of things in common, but it's hard to believe that a lot (a lot!) of us also share appearance — have black medium-lenght hair, fair complexion, medium-to-small body frame and poor eyesight — while having absolutely no outstanding characteristics about it.
I didn't gather any statistics, but from what I remember, about a quarter (or more) of all contributions featured this "template". Naturally, some people would suspect that some of the contributors weren't honest and used the template instead of overcoming the thread's challenge of transcribing their individuality.
