not ESL just failed to grasp the point you were trying to make originally. karaoke is obviously an english word, but it's a loanword from japanese, i thought you meant that カラオケ was an english word that was loaned into japanese.

i see now that you were making the point that terminology 二段 etc has never been loaned into english and thus shouldn't be treated the same, which is a fair point.

>Nowadays in formal written ModJ, almost every noun is obligatorily followed by
a particle: the subject has to be marked by が , the object has to be marked by を ,
unless some other particle such as は or も is present. In informal spoken ModJ,
though, both the subject and the object of a verb are commonly expressed by a noun
with no particle, and even に expressing location in time and the topic particle は
seem more optional. Till now, you may have thought that it’s spoken Japanese that has
dropped these particles. The reverse is in fact the case: it’s formal Japanese that has
made them obligatory, partly under the influence of notions of grammatical ‘case’ in
European languages. Both the object particle を and the topic particle は were
optional in CJ, whereas the subject was originally never marked by any particle at all

you should post the sentence and ask on here for help in those situations. the whole thing about letting it go is even if you struggle with the sentence and finally figure out what it means that doesn't mean you acquired the piece of grammar. you were only able to decode what the sentence meant after considerable effort and you will have to probably read more sentences using that piece of grammar to really make it a part of your knowledge. so yeah it's good to understand every sentence you read but sometimes you won't be able to and i doubt if you're reading something like a novel if it's not at the end of the book like the climax then it won't change your overall comprehension of the story at large which is what you should be concerned with first and foremost

It's a meme since I tend to make a bunch of useless decks. However, here's a spreadsheet of 65,000 words obtained from a frequency analysis of 5500 books in the DJT library.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ni0ZYqqPzfWDIil9mdc6M5obqIuPS_NE54rPr_0cWUU/edit#gid=0

There's also the Tanuki list, which has unknown origins but looks like something for teaching native Japanese kids about kanji vocabulary.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19c4cYTQGa-iZnBirFLeO1_TzFHRBlabWSwBV6IoDaQU/edit#gid=0

With spreadsheets, it's easy to make your own Anki deck. However, the JLPT Tango Decks seem superior to any automatically generated (or sorted) stuff like the above.

>> No.20761704

>>20761667

First, here's the full 65,000 word list. The fields are: Kanji sorted position, Frequency Count, Word, Optimized Index, Skip count. What I did with the spreadsheets above is group the frequency count into: 500, 2000, 4000, 6000, etc. then sorted words in those group by the kanji index. Kana only words in the top 10,000 were in their own sheet.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1N5LihYUw-4kJprAwjE1hqydVFGHFRA0j/view?usp=sharing

Now the big reveal. It's fucking useless and stupid to learn such a list. What I think you should do is get the "Unnamed Japanese Text Analyzer" program. Run it first on the Core 10k sentences and use the resulting list as a "filter" file. Now, run the analyzer on the subtitles or book series of stuff you read, filtering out the 10k stuff. Make sure to click "apend first appearance line" so you get a reference sentence. You've created a list of words that are from stuff you've read and enjoyed. It'll have the sentence there for context. That'll be better than any random word list I'd make for you.

Always remember that language learning is a process that takes years of dedication. You've been doing "read more" for a couple weeks? Yeah, that's a drop in the water bud, come back in a few months or even a year. No offense, but from an unbiased third party perspective, it's likely you haven't even read that much. Beginners read slowly so they cover less ground. It takes time to built up speed, but as you get faster, you'll read even more and get even better. It's exponential growth.

Step 2. Take basic notes in a word file once you've watched each video.
Step 3. Reference your notes when you see grammar patterns you don't get. It's easier to understand if you have the context of your own notes as opposed to looking up on DOJG
Step 4. If you still don't get a grammar point and you know it's basic, rewatch cure dolly vid and look it up on DOJG
Step 5. If you still don't get it, just skip it.

That's why I said you need to stop caring so much about shitty Anki. It's a tool that's supposed to help you remember words. It's not the goal to get perfect at doing Anki. Anki ability doesn't even transfer so perfectly to reading for me. I can get a card perfect in Anki every time but if I'm not used to seeing those words in sentences I will trip up over them until I'm actually used to them.

People making fun of trying to memorize a dictionary aren't just memeing. It's not really helping as much as people think it will.

Sometimes George fairly criticizes AJATT and Matt for endorsing an avalanche of pointless bullshit but then he claims reading and listening aren't as important as outputting from day one. If George's struggles with DQ are any indication, that's not very good advice.

Then George has drones on his discord say shit like this:

no, matt's videos are extremely long and bad and there's shittons of them, insisting that someone verify your claims on their own in cases where finding facts requires either time and effort or prior knowledge of their existence is laying an undue burden of proof on the person you're trying to convince

>undue burden of proof
You realize this is an arbitrary and meaningless standard right? Asking someone to exert a minimum amount of effort to learn about something after they've made a definitive statement about it (which is what you did) isn't a big deal. Dismiss the assertion, but then you don't have to post about it.

if you don't care about the readings of all the words in the sentence and only care about a certain word you are targeting i'd say you don't need to worry about furigana generation. if you are drilling the readings of every word in the sentence per card then furigana generation will save you so much time. you need to correct it every once in a while like with number/word compounds or the reading of a verb or changing nippon to nihon but overall its accurate enough to save a ton of time

not gonna lie i used anki a lot when i started learning to read. idk if it helped or not but i can read now. i do believe you can learn just by reading and listening though since i havent been using anki for vocab for a while now and im still acquiring lots of new words each day but the beginning is a tall wall to scale for sure just follow your heart.
if im gona be honest with you and not meme you and tell you what i did do is i wrote out all the joyo kanji multiple times following the KKLC book which got me much more quick at writing kanji thx to repetition and stroke order so when i went to look up stuff i could just scribble it in really fast and distinguish things a lil better so it wasnt a chore. i remember writing 城 without knowing what stroke order was it was like painting a picture instead of just writing the damn thing
