All tripfags are fags. You should know this by now /jp/. Some are less annoying than others, but it still doesn't change the fact that by using a trip they are promoting themselves with each post. Sure, the tripcode has a use for identification perposes when needed, but otherwise it's just another way of attention whoring and needs to be kept in check with the right continued negative attitude.

To extend this notion, I feel that when there are too many tripfags present, something about the posting atmosphere changes for the worse.

One of the reasons I like imageboards like this is because anonymous posting gives you a unique method of expression. You, and everyone else around you, are free to make mistakes and say completely stupid things, and try again later with no repercussion to your self image.

After all, you're just one of many. You can't do this when you have a name; the name ties you to history, and people remember the stupid shit you say.

Separate, these things are fine and support each other, but when you mix things up like we have here, names become virtual lightning rods of hate. Not every tripfag is bad, but we see all of them make mistakes and say stupid things; they have personalities and histories to live with and live up to. Since anonymous posters do not have such worries, we see this as a weakness, and the inevitable response is ridicule.

There's not really a good point to this, and honestly I can only see the utility of a tripcode lasting for one thread or subject.

The thing is; I like the fact we don't have forced Anonymous on this board. By allowing tripfags to identify themselves we allow a way to identify people when really needed, say for a ongoing project, but perhaps just as importantly we allow faggots to identify themselves willingly.

Sure, it's easier to troll in the Anonymous system, with or without a tripcode, but at least when we see a tripfag going on about some shit we know from the outset he's probably a attention whore and will view his opinion with more a more critical view.

Don't get me wrong, I know where you are coming from and I like the occasional no fuss threads myself where the OP basically opens with a theme (lets say Fate's ass appreciation thread on /a/ or something) and everyone just posts their favourite pictures with little discussion beyond basic jokes or 'fuck yeah' responses.

However, it would be dull without some discussion. Ideally I like discussion mixed with images related to the discussion, new content especially including that made by the posters themselves rather than found somewhere else. Talking about the latest anime/games and so on. Of course it brings trolls, but that's just the internet. That's part of forum life.

In anycase, I don't see much difference between Anon and most tripfags over discussion and image floods. Both are eager to discuss crap at length or just casually join in image threads, it depends mostly on mood.

Only real difference between a tripfag and a Anon is a tripfag feels the need to identify himself or some reason, usually so his opinion can be validated instead of just being one of the guys. In the end it's just self gratification for whatever reason and it's mocked as such, it's why I prefer we don't remove the system so people who are inclined to be like that can generally be seen for what they are.

Yeah, I can really see how this isn't about self promotion at all. Ultimately it comes down to getting a reputation, good or bad for posts, I don't see how this isn't attention whoring in a board that promotes Anonymous as default in order to view poster comments on their own merit, not on their reputation.

It's not so much to say identifying yourself is bad, but more that on a board like 4chan it's entirely self serving and unessential. The only purpose is the feeling you get for being recognised.
