Since /mu/ hates Japanese music, who is your favorite Japanese artist? I'd say that Shiina Ringo tops my list. I'm not really a pop fan, but her music is creative and her voice is distinct.

Shiina Ringo/Tokyo Jihen are fucking brilliant. It takes a lot for an artist to produce music that I ALWAYS like.

That aside, I've been rediscovering early L'arc~en~ciel, Gackt-era Malice Mizer, and X Japan, as well as Kagrra,. Some SPARTA LOCALS and Asian Kung-Fu Generation too.

I'll risk sounding like a goth-fag and say I like some Dir en Grey. Sakamoto Maaya is my sugar fix; something about Ayumi's voice is really irritating.

And Base Ball Bear. Because they're pretty fucking ace.

Her voice can sound screechy at times, but it's very strong and some of her tunes can sound downright epic.

>> No.1972

Shiina Ringo is pretty damn brilliant. Her music never gets old for me. That includes Tokyo Jihen, too.

A little off topic but: OP, you should check out the live-action movie Sakuran. Maybe you've heard of it; the entire soundtrack is Shiina Ringo's Heisei Fuuzoku album. The overall movie is only decent (well, most manga-to-live adaptations tend to be) but visually and aurally it comes together pretty nicely.

Actually, I love her pop stuff. That's the funny thing. I am normally not a pop fan, but she just does it so well that I can't help but enjoy it. Tokyo Jihen is cool as well, but I don't think that it matches her solo output.

Hey, I dig Gazette. Just not one of my top-of-the-head favorites, eh?

Eh, MARROW had some good tracks on it personally. May not have had the same kind of tonal quality of their early stuff, but I'm not convinced they're made of fail yet.

FUCK YOU.

Anyway. I listen to alot of Ali Project, Ayumi Hamasaki, Hikaru Utada, Shiina Ringo, Susumu Hirasawa and Rie Fu.

My two favorite artists are Tommy February6/Heavenly6 though (and since Tomoko went back to the The Brilliant Green, I don't know when another Feb6 or Heav6 will ever come out....;_;) and TM Revolution (fuck the power level, I'm going to New York Comic Con because he's holding a concert there).

It seems I can't stay too long with a indie rock band for too long, although I kinda still into L'arc (but their P'unk~en~Ciel stuff is better than their regular stuff). AKFG's newer stuff is kind boring. The rest I kinda dropped after a short while.

>> No.3336

I think she tried too hard to appeal to the American audience that that album sounded like generic R&B singer #29739874. I admit some of the songs on there are relatively good (after listening to them a few time to grow on you) like "The Workout" and "Kremlin Dust" but the dance remixes of "Exodus 04" and "The Devil Inside" are much more superior than the original ones.

Meh, she redeemed herself in my eyes with "Passion", "Keep Tryin'" and the songs she did for the Eva movies. I have the latest single from her but I haven't heard it yet...
