Pretty much every touhou is good/has a niche they fill well. If nothing else I'd say make a backup save and try experimenting yourself on what style you think you should stick with. Or catch/use multiple of the same puppet.

Does that Mega link have the recently-released translation in it? If so, does step 9 mean copy-pasting the SoD_Translation_Team-Testing folder into the game folder, duplicate applications and all? That doesn't seem right. What to do with the dupes?

So what's this "Cla." thing all attacks have? Like "BU" or "EN" or "None".

Also am I assuming right that sealing puppets is more effective when they have low HP and/or statuses? I missed a seal once, so I'd figure.

>> No.20018369

>>20018337
I think the Cla. thing is the skill's Class.
I dunno if there are any other uses for a skill's class, but looking at the item list on the wiki, it seems like there are two items that reflect damage if you're hit by a BU-class skill and an EN-class skill, respectively.

Also, I dunno if sealing is easier at lower HP or not, but there are higher-tier seals that can make it easier, plus lowering a puppet's HP before sealing can make capturing them easier regardless.

>> No.20018395

>>20018369
Okay, thanks. So Cla. is kinda like Pokemon's "makes contact" or not. Kinda kinda.

And yeah, I already had a seal time-out when a wild Keine decided to oneshot two of my puppets, including my starter. I seriously doubt I get used to all these types and weakness interactions. I'm really not used to steel being so effective offensively..

It's all I have to go by. This steel feels a little more stoney though. I think it kills flying and such. (aka wind?) Well, I only beat the Cirno gang so far, so it's still early. The treasure loving mouse (that I hoped to have some useful treasure finding skill, but doesn't) actually carried. With steel. Until she got grassed.

It's fine though. Going into "Pokemon" without knowing anything, having to guess with my Touhou knowledge and the puppet looks and so on isn't half bad. Not like you can swap for free here anyway.

For the record, there is one move that actually benefits from that ability (more than simply because it deals 20% more damage), and that's Overskill, since in addition to 120% damage, the user also only suffers 60% the recoil. And it isn't even a STAB, anyway. Most other gimmicks associated with it are not really beneficial, like higher crit chance with Magic Ring and better flinch chance (though still not higher than 30%) with Champion's Medal.

Just make it different versions (with unique poses and outfits) of select puppets. Call it Phantasm Style or whatever.

The disadvantage would be that now certain 2hus have more options, which kind of works against the game letting you play with your favorites by keeping all the BSTs nicely balanced and letting you choose anything at the start, but I think it would be worth it. Catching Pokemon / Puppets is the driving force of game, after all, and grand hunts for legendary captures is a good climax for that gameplay pillar.

If there ever were to be another Touhoumon game, it would be good to have more different ways to optain new puppets in general. Pokemon games have all sorts of encounters from gifts to fishing to special evolution methods to legendary battles, but TPDP mostly just has long grass and the occasional pot.

So, after playing this for a bit:

-I'm happy it's not like those kaizo hacks, where the devs didn't understand that trainers on a route aren't supposed to be so strong that you need to fully heal after each one, but beat them all in one go. It's still more wonky than in the original Pokemon, unfortunately, so it may've been a weird coincidence. Not being able to switch was a bad idea. Pokemon allows you to do that against enemies in the main-game for good reason. (mainly damage mitigation on the long run and teaching you the importance of weakness abuse and as such remembering types)

-The exp is wonky. There seems to be bonus exp when something is way underleveled, but no penalty when you are overleveled. You overlevel FAST. This makes key battles rather.. boring.

-Did they really need to adapt something like "if your box is full, you can't get new pokemon" into this? Come on.

But, the game is quite cute, for what it is. Being able to change a puppet's outfit is also a nice touch. In rare cases that even leads to completely different looks, it seems like. Gameplay-wise I wouldn't consider it above Pokemon. I know that the IV/EV thing is more convenient in this, but I never bothered with that in Pokemon anyway, so it's kinda irrelevant to me. In exchange, the move learning thing is annoying. I appreciate an easy way to CHANGE them, but I seriously don't appreciate having to go to the menu every time something learns something, just to see it's garbage anyway.
I'd probably have more fun with better exp scaling. In Black 2 I felt like the balance was always completely on spot. By the elite 4 I was 10 levels behind, which was also just right, probably because of bonus stats and whatnot. Here I'm lvl 26 against lvl 16, just because I want to get the puppets to see what they can do.

Assist and Extra have the speed to get it out before being knocked out and Extra will probably take a hit too. Revolving Illusions will compensate for her abysmal Fo.Att, Panic Call can be handy and just either take the foe with you with Call of the Dead or Changeling her out of there once she's done her job. Assist on the other hand has Shinigami's Waltz which you can use to cheese in PvE while curse return is great when you know you're up against that sort of attack. You can also spread status ailments with Will-o'-Wisp if you've got nobody else in your team to do that.
All in all, I'd probably go with Extra and make her the team kunny since that's what she does best.

It's supposed to hit enemies that resist your move's type for neutral damage. Just like Seiryu, it doesn't remove type immunities.

But I just looked at how the damage calculator treats that ability, and according to it, what Skilled Hand actually does is double the power of resisted hits. So if a move is resisted by both of the puppet's types, it will deal half of its damage instead of a quarter. Basically, it's Tinted Lens.

The only way to "undo" style changes is by reincarnating in the post-game, right? Then again it's probably far better to just catch 3 of every 2hu and get all styles.

Last one, what's the best spot to get a full team of fresh lvl1 S ranked puppet to 100? I found a spot in hell, farming the first trainer over and over with a lvl 100 puppet one shotting everything (give a lot of money/magic frag too) but maybe there is a better way.

You wouldn't expect it, but this girl totally tears shit up. 125 speed beats almost everything, especially single-player when a low-Cost puppet will have a few levels on your opponents. 95 SpAtk seems low, but then you see she has Strategist and the perfect movepool to abuse it with a bunch of moves that TECHNICALLY have <=60 power but actually hit far harder.

>Geyser, 60-power STAB that always crits, so effectively 135 BP + STAB (and piercing defense boosts)
>Random Shots, 25-power multihit STAB, so effectively 75-187.5BP + STAB (plus breaks sashes)
>Twin Gears, 50-power double-hit Steel, so effectively 150 BP (plus breaks sashes and Steel is a great offensive type in general)
>Purple Lightning, 50-power Electric move that boosts StAtk, if something survives one of the above finish them off with this then +1 sweep

Absolute MVP.
