These days, people are more likely to know 4chan as "that place with the nazis" than anything.

I wouldn't voluntarily talk to someone IRL about 4chan, but if they bought it up to me and weren't talking about the uglier parts of the site, I'd participate. Would also be open to meetups if they lived nearby.

I did, but I have never mentioned /jp/ or that I visit here. And probably never will. That Moot panel was a disaster, I don't think /jp/ needs a lot more normalfags here. And this place is sick: you worship 2D girls, discuss onaholes and shitpost unique memes that no one can understand. How can I explain that I'm a normal, functioning being, I am just interested in this.

I have a friend who is a /co/ and /vg/ regular, so sometimes we'll talk about stuff like the Easter event and the 4cc. Other than him, I don't talk to anybody about my time on here.

I have told my brother and a friend of mine who comes here sometimes. The latter knows about /jp/ but I forbid him from coming to check it out.

You don't have to lurk very long to figure things out, and if you don't get a meme, ask. /b/ and other boards have plenty of unique and incomprehensible memes, like the laughing/vibrating gold mask, the wojac, ebin, jej, even pepe doesn't make sense until you lurk a bit (how are you supposed to know it's pronounced "pep, and not pep-peh or peppa?). How the hell are you supposed to know that they're all different characters when they all look so similar? Hell, the wojac would seem more like a "lol so funny and epic" metaphor for normalfags if you didn't know the context. Egads.

I don't think this is a /jp/ topic. A number of real life friends use this website but I'm the only one that uses /jp/. I don't think this board is very good and am not sure why I'm still here. Maybe I'll leave.

I've had very awkward conversations about 4chan with this /v/tard who works at a convenience store I frequent. He only works the night shift and I usually come in at 1:00 AM so we run into each other often. He doesn't really care for weebshit so 4chan is literally all we have in common.

Became friends with a guy in college after he asked if I played a game I was browsing pictures of. I probably mentioned that I browsed the /vg/ board for the game and he told me he mainly used /b/. I told him I stopped going there years ago because I'm too fragile. We mostly just talk about anime and vidya.

Other than that, I got several of my irl friends to begin browsing back in HS, probably 10 years ago. Looking back I was a cringy meme loving fuck, but in my defense the people loved it. However I think I made a terrible mistake introducing my friends to 4chan because now two of them unironically call themselves nazis and I can't bring them out in public. At least I can still talk to them about anime; one actually is living in Japan studying the language as well.

This, really. Many of my friends in high school (which was admittedly not very long ago) regularly visited 4chan. Lo and behold, they frequented a mix of either /pol/, /tv/, or /v/.

Not him, but I've noticed that at least within this year, there seem to be a larger portion of people who act conceited and ignorant in the same manner as the boards you mentioned. I used to think the crossboarder bogeyman was bullshit, but the more time I spend here, the more I believe it. That said, this place is absolutely nowhere near as bad as those boards, and I actually consider it one of the better online communities.
For reference, I only started going here in early 2016.
