Today's the day guys. Regardless of you how you feel about RTK can you at least give me credit for sticking through it till the end. Shit broke my soul near the end and the only reason I kept going is thanks to the habit I created waking up 7AM everyday and getting it done. I wasn't human until i saw numbers ending with 0,25,50,75,00 before I ate breakfast and 00/00 anki cards before dinner. 3rd milestone is now complete(after today). a.. am I gonna make it anons?

I've thought about doing this but I realized every time I tried to do too many new things at once I always fail. It could be a week or 2 weeks in, I will always end up crashing when difficulty spikes, giving up on 1 or both tasks. Regardless of how much free time I had, I stuck to just doing rtk less I risk overwhelming myself, like so many other times, and burning to the ground.

Congrats. I know that feel. Starting in early June I set my alarm clock and woke up every single day at 8am to do my reps and to do RTK. I only woke up later than 8am once or twice. It was the one thing in life that I gave enough of a shit about to bother doing that and I finished it. I still keep to that schedule and I've been reading recently and it's tough but it is way more enjoyable than RTK. I'm glad RTK is over. Luckily after a week my reviews plummeted and tomorrow they'll be less than 100. So look forward to that.

Not sure what implications you're drawing from "comfortably", but comfortably = without trouble. Just by reading when I feel like it and for however long I feel like it, I can finish a volume of manga without having any particular intention/aim of doing so (e.g. While killing time waiting for the latest Overlord episode to go up today, I ended up finishing a volume of Watamote in between sessions of lurking DJT).

In terms of manga, I read at a pace of 1 min per page (not sure how good/bad that is; for a native or someone fluent it would probably be considered pretty slow, but when I said "average" I meant "average among learners").

That said, thinking about it more my reading speed would probably take quite a hit with an LN. Sentences would be longer and there would probably be a lot more unknown words for me to look up, both of which would slow me down in a mechanical sense, and then the reduced comprehension of the text resulting from both those things would slow me down even further.

Ah, so that's what you meant. Sorry, my only experience reading manga prior to earlier this week was when I first started reading about a year ago. Back then it took me somewhere in the region of 30 mins to an hour to get through a single chapter (while understanding next to nothing). Based on that experience, finishing a volume in a day without trying seemed like a decent accomplishment, but I guess it's actually not after all (unless you're a total beginner).

>so really the only thing you can do is try reading a LN volume and see how you fare.
Alright. Truth be told, I'm wanting to read Overlord since I'm getting too impatient with the weekly wait for each new episode from the anime, and I was asking to try to get an idea of how long it would take me to catch up with the anime which is now at volume 7 I think. I was wondering if I had any chance of pulling it off before next week's episode aired.

Yeah, I hate this shit too. Really put me off reading VNs so I've gone off them for now. Agonising a bit over what I should be reading from here on out. I tried manga but it feels way too easy so I don't think I'm going to learn much from it, but on the other hand I really have no interest in LNs/novels (never been into books; I can count the number I've read voluntarily in English on one hand).

These are alternative forms of the past tense and past participle of the verb learn. Both are acceptable, but learned is often used in both British English and American English, while learnt is much more common in British English than in American English.

Subvocalization plays a large role in memory encoding. Subvocalization appears to facilitate the translating of visual linguistic information into acoustic information [6][10] and vice versa.[5] For example, subvocalization occurs when one sees a word and is asked to say it (see-say condition), or when one hears a word and is asked to write it (hear-write condition), but not when one is asked to see a word and then write it (see-write condition) or hear and word and then say it (hear-say condition).[5] The see-say condition converts visual information into acoustic information. The hear-write condition converts acoustic information into visual information. The see-write and hear-say conditions, however, remain in the same sensory domain and do not require translation into a different type of code.[5]

This is also supported by findings that suggest that subvocalization is not required for the encoding of speech,[9][10] as words being heard are already in acoustic form and therefore enter short term memory directly without use of subvocal articulation.[10] Furthermore, subvocalization interference impedes reading comprehension but not listening comprehension

Bleach is actually good for the first 60 episodes or something. The rest has its ups and downs (largely downs), but it never again reaches the level of quality it attained in the beginning. Also, the anime didn't even completely adapt the manga, so if you watch all 400 or whatever episodes then you'll end up finishing on what was probably the worst arc of the entire series and then not find out how it ends. It's not my job to educate ESLs on basic English. If their post is nonsensical and not worth replying to I'll at least inform them why.

>In a response to a post that already says writing and active memorization are unnecessary? Why would you even mention lingq having whatever vague functionality you're talking about here?
Because he's putting forward his own opinion about whether marking known words is helpful. The ESL read this wrong and took his post to mean he misunderstood the article, which in itself is fine (even natives make mistakes), but the fact that he pointed to the phrase "removes the need to write anything down" means the ESLs misunderstanding and subsequent pointless argument was because of his shitty English.

>it's just bad word choice if you need to bend around backwards like this to argue about it
Just because you give it an implied meaning that doesn't exist doesn't make it bad word choice. Any native speaker would understand what the phrase "removes the need to" meant just fine.

Something with furigana. Look up the "Japanese Readers" in cornucopia, they have something.

For example, "Read Real Japanese Fiction Short Stories by Contemporary Writers" is a nice introduction because it's bilingual (one side english and one side japanese) but also because they translate the sentences by parts, so you can see how those parts merge.
