As for Youmu's mother, I always assumed the Konpaku clan isn't bound by regular family limitations. There always seems to be either one gardener alone, or the current gardener and their heir - the rest of the family is never mentioned. It just seems whenever the current gardener grows old, a second half-ghost appears to take over, and the old one goes to "meditate".

But yeah... it's only one fan theory among thousands in the absence of a real answer.
