The children he leaves alive, leaving their lives to the roullete as Kinzo used to do. Do they make it off the island before it explodes?

There would have to be some backstory to explain why this normal servant would go through the effort of constructing all sorts of locked room scenarios and blowing everything up in the end which probably includes himself as a casualty.
If we're still getting crazy locked rooms, then the love of reading mystery novels probably still exists as a backstory. Instead of a childhood love interest, he could instead be a playful rival of Battler until Battler one day disappeared. Waiting for the exact year for Battler to show up could be this rival's attempt at challenging Battler for one final all-out mystery, to settle the score once and for all. There's still the problem of him killing all the family and servants just for the sake of a game, but it could be a similar situation of writing forgeries and that rival not actually being the culprit or even intending to kill everyone. I suppose it could be a very similar story, but with far less focus on love and a weaker message about truth and magic.

I loved the momentum that chapter 6 had behind it. Everything led up to such a dramatic conclusion, and I cannot stress how much I enjoyed the final confrontation Battler and Beatrice had with Erika. Erika really was such a perfect character for the role she played.

Personally, I'm torn between my two favorite segments, the one I mentioned prior and the last fight between Battler and Beatrce. As soon as dreamenddischarger started playing in their final dance I felt such a 'magical' feeling - for a lack of better words. It really felt like everything Battler learned was being used in one final desperate struggle to take back his life against Beatrice.

If thats your artwork I think you have potential for a nice looking VN. I think maybe reading genres similar to R07 might be helpful. For example The House in Fata Morgana is a great VN in a similar way, but its certainly not the same story even though their are similarities and differences. Some people like Danganropa or whatever and Persona in a similar vein although I've not read them yet.

Nah, it's not mine, it's by another anon. My painting skills are a total zero, but I'm moderately okay when it comes to pixel art. I mostly want to focus on the writing, it's why I'll be using the R07/TYPE-MOON VN format instead of the dating sim one. Good Luck Anon. I'm also an aspiring writer, and also in Japan improving my Japanese. I am not sure if I want to try my hand in Japanese writing as well (albeit in a lower-tier format like panel comics) or English. I suppose I could also just get a really skilled editor to clean up my Japanese, but considering how much skill it takes to write well in even your native language its certainly a tall dream.

Mhm, I feel you. I think R07 himself said it very well: "every character needs to have two sides", like how Rena is a really sweet and caring girl, but in stressful moments her much more serious persona is shown. For flaws you can just take the character's good traits and portray them in such a way that they end up being bad ones, too. Like for example, being loyal, but to the wrong person, or being kind, but too naïve. Let characters make mistakes and ultimately grow as people. Whenever I self-insert as my characters I try to really get into the emotion of the moment and live through them. It sounds weird, but it really helps me visualize things. For example, I had this idea for a romantic scene where the characters would be talking about God and then the girl turns to the MC and says something about how Adam and Eve were always happy when they were in Eden and were with God, similar to how she feels when she's with the MC, so she sees proof of God in him. I know it's really cheesy, but if I hadn't really put myself into the place of the characters, I don't think I could've thought of something like this and I don't think it's commonly done AFAIK.

The first project is a learning experience, so don't beat yourself up too hard when it gets tough, and understand that you're still learning and it's okay to get stuck or make mistakes.
