The recent steam release of Chapter 6 of Higurashi is quite awful.

I'm pretty sure they just completely forgot to restore the original music for this one.
I bothered making a fix for it last night, compared it directly with the original Japanese version.
It's exactly the same as their shitty 2010 release. A lot of the music choices are really questionable when comparing to the original. It gave some scenes a really different feel to it than intended, it really pissed me off comparing them one by one.

The songs made specifically for that release are also really bad in my opinion, they're almost all under a minute.
And they even replaced 2 tracks with fucking sound effects on loop, I'm not even kidding.

Speaking of which... Meakashi is STILL missing it's final credits sequence, the one where it says what happened to each character. This is really huge if you're reading for the first time, and multiple people have actually pointed this out to MangaGamer and their programmer, a year later it's still not fixed.
It also uses the sound effects from their previous English release instead of the ones from the original..


I think I know why the question arcs are fine, because they used the Japanese version and put an English translation on top of that, there are like notes in Japanese in it, mostly just the full text in Japanese of the sentence before the command where everything gets kinda split up.
But for the Answer arcs they obviously seem to be using their previous English release from 2010 and putting in the original Japanese text in there.
I'm actually quite curious how much the translation for the Ch 5 and 6 differs from their 2010 release. I wouldn't be surprised if they're completely identical.

I find it really messed up they actually release them like this. I have no clue how they have taken over an entire year for Ch 6, and they release it like that...
Higurashi deserves better than this...

Ch5 is similar but not identical, biggest difference I noticed was Mion no longer refers to Shion as "oneechan" when she's begging for her life. I have not read the manga yet, they say they explain in more detail the Sayo mentality there. She always avoided killing Battler, letting the explosion at the end. George wanted kids (which she can not have since she's a man) and she could not love Jessica (he does not have a penis because of the cliff fall) I think she felt that her only hope was her knight in a white horse.
