If you want something easy to hold your hand while you get used to it, Imperishable Night or MoF.
If you want something more challenging, PCB, EoSD or SA.
In the end, you should play all of them though.

Don't be a newfag and start from TH1 to 5 (find an emulator for the PC98, usually the games and emulator are in the same pack).

If you skip these and rush to the colorful and bouncy PC titles you'll lack fundamental knowledge of Touhou universe.

I've had this for the longest time and this emulator does nothing for me.

Running Anex86.exe gets me that settings thing.

Load up Highly Responsive to Prayers in the HDD slot, and check the HDD -> FDD (same results if the box isn't checked anyway).
Start.
BLACK NOTHINGNESS.

Considering only easy and normal. PCB is probably the hardest easy mode Touhou, and MoF is fairly easy on easy/normal, and the bombing system in MoF/SA is more lenient. Well, sort of. You get more bombs, but lose power per bomb. I find it easier because during the stage a bomb will recover all or most of the power it took, so memorization of the stage isn't necessary unless you're scorerunning or something.

FUCKING WHAT

From the standpoint of Easy I would find PCB to have more initially overwhelming cards than MoF, not to mention a much worse stage four for someone who doesn't know the spawn points. Still, I wouldn't call MoF a free handout.

Also, would you happen to know where the Let's Play Danmaku anon went?

In MoF you can bomb once per level with no penalty since there is no difference between full and one level below full.

And then WHAT THE FUCK IS WITH THAT KIKURI.
I damage her maybe 1/3rd of the time the Orb hits her, and her danmaku catches me off guard too much.
Feh.

So then I gave up and played Mystic Square. And it's actually quite fun!

Why is it when you run the games in Anex86 the sound is so horribly asynchronous to what's happening on screen? There's like a full second lag between something blowing up and you hearing it pop. NP2 does a much better job with that in allowing you to set the sampling rate and buffer.

I also like the font better, and it sometimes pulls stupid stuff like this. All the games run like shit in Anex86. In NP2 you can set the clock and multiplier to make sure it runs smoothly. All I can see in Anex is just a bunch of switches, and I have no idea what they do.
