It's important to separate "predictions" and "hopes" here.

My PREDICTION is that TH12 will be more of the same shit - will use some slight variant of the Mountain of Fail engine/scoring system, will include only Reimu and Marisa as playable characters, and they will still be drawn more shittily than they were during the IN era. There will still not be Spell Practice or anything else that people have been asking for in every game after IN taught them that a Touhou game can indeed be full to the bursting point of excellent content and replay value. Popular older characters will not make appearances. Six throwaway new characters will be included, and about two of them will become popular. There will not be an English patch in 5 years. Endings will be black and white.

My HOPE is that Zun finally allows somebody else to draw the art so that he gets more time to focus on the shit he's good at. I want a loli that controls genetics, since we have Koishi and subconscious already. Make her chimera (not mythological, biological chimera - an organism composed of two or more genetically different cell groups) "twins" that usually share the same body, one being active while the other laying dormant/"sleeping". Ability is manipulation of genetic code, spell cards are named shit like Faulty Code "Point Mutation" (for Easy and Normal), Mutation "Frame Shift" (for Hard and Lunatic), Natural Selection "Bottleneck Event" (Easy/Normal, though bottleneck events are...not quite natural selection, yeah. ) -> Disaster "Mass Extinction" (Hard/Lunatic), Spiral Sign "Youkai Sequencing" (Easy/Normal), Double Helix "Youkai Genome Project" and so on.

She should also be able to attack with various animal parts coming out of her body (think Nero Chaos. ) to you know, spice up hentai doujins (why else?) Who wouldn't like a Touhou with actual live squid tentacles, or the canon ability to grow a penis?

Touhoufags always want their 6-10 new characters, but also want their old (=even PC98 old) characters to appear in the next (every) game.
IN was pretty good with Last Word spellcards for all the Player Character and even for the midboss (Tewi).
Momizi didn't get any spellcards (but Shizuha(MoF stage 1 boss you don't know about) and Kisume did).

How about the border breaks and an armada of super techno-savvy conquerors enter that make the eneimes of Ikaruga seem like nineballs. All the youkai would have to join together in order to repell this new major threat. The final level will be moving through the massive flagship itself until you get to the bridge, and then the main leader of the conquerors breaks apart the bridge of the ship and then it transforms into a massive mech. One massive boss fight later, the leader emerges in a battle suit, and puts up even more of a fight then the mech. Then after you beat him, it's revealed the leader is actually a male (lulz.)

Then the Extra stage will just be Cirno using a knockoff of the final boss' armor.
