Clannad is a solid game, as far as length, production values, art, etc. But I just found it boring as hell. Saya no Uta, Ever17, Otoboku even, all had SOME kind of twist to keep it fresh...Clannad was just a snorefest. Absolutely nothing unusual happens at all. It's like rui tomo without the trap.

Why did I think there were two different translation projects for Clannad? Where does one obtain a pretty much complete patch?

Clannad, simply because of Tomoya's dad and what Tomoya goes through after Nagisa dies.

No show or game has every got me so depressed or hit so close to home. I also related to Tomoya's apathetic attitude towards everything, he's not emo (in the game, at least) but he just doesn't care. I really don't understand why everyone says he's a crappy character, he's my favorite MC by far.

I loved YMK each girl story pulls you in, and you'll want to each girls story cause you'll cross everyones path in one play through.
Clannad left me feeling like something was lacking, then again YMK was my first VN also.

In terms of writing, characterization, setting and music there's a really small list of visual novels that can get closer to Clannad. Yes, I said get closer not surpass. It may seem to be a hype but it isn't, as for nakige material this game sure is top tier.

I find it kinda hard to believe people have the face to say YMK had better characterization or was more rewarding even if it's just their personal opinion, but I'm not going to discuss about it here. I'd just say play both because it's worth it and don't pay attention to people that say Clannad is boring because they're probably just idiots like almost every user in this board.

I was so bored reading YMK. There was no romance and all I did was watch this guy go to school. I eventually uninstalled it because I realized it had been about 2 months and I'd never gotten further than the student council meeting. What makes this game so great for you guys? I was bored shitless.

All the stories /jp/ seems most fascinated by are the deep psychological dramas. Ever 17, Chaos;Head, Higurashi. After playing for a couple hours over the course of several weeks i came to the conclusion (having seen no romantic elements whatsoever) that this was another example of /jp/ mooning over a psychological drama. Seeing as how I was already bored and don't like psychological dramas I finally uninstalled the game.

So, may I ask, since I never got on a route, is there or is there not romance in this game? Is the romance just a backdrop to a longer psychological story or is it something a person who really is in it only for the romance going to be interested in?

Mizuki's end used the same cheap plot device, but to a lesser degree.

Aeka's is my favorite ending because it didn't resort to using the cheap plot device. (Well, it kinda did, but in a different way that wasn't as cheap.)

But maybe I'm the only one who views said plot device as such a cruel thing, that thought it cheapened the effect of the ending and pretty much ruined it.
