I'm one of those suckers that watched it first. I'm glad it introduced me to it, but I still feel like it spoiled my initial experience. I think the manga would be better for a newcomer if the VN is not an option. It doesn't have to be the entire manga, even the first Episode is enough. Ikuko found Yasu's confession using her "magic". Ikuko is mysteriously rich, and just a mysterious person in general. Ikuko's names mean "raised child". Ikuko loves mystery novels. Ikuko is transfixed by Battler and has practically given her life to support him.

A rich heir who loves Battler and mystery novels, who hides from society, who isn't against changing names or creating personalities, who remembers everything that happened on the island and wrote novels to help Battler remember (novels in which she self-insert as Beatrice). A rich heir with a powerful witch counterpart and a shaky disposition toward reality. I wonder who Ikuko could be?

The anime has a second season, which brings the total closer to 52 episodes. The first season of the anime covers the first six chapters/arcs and rushes through a bit, the second season covers the final two chapters/arcs. The second season had to do some recaps to make up for the crucial details it skipped over in the first season.
Just hang in there. At least try to finish reading the first arc and decide whether or not you want to continue reading it.

If you have a perfectly normal brain you shouldn't even think about watching an anime as opposed to reading the source material, except if you're really new. If you are, know that 99% of VN anime adaptations are pure trash aimed at people with brain disorders and ADHD that keep them from reading and shouldn't be bothered with.

Say what you want about the original sprites, Takano is absolutely perfect. She's never been done justice in any of the updates. Alchemist Takano lacks presence and Mangagamer Takano looks like a tranny and is looking awkwardly to the side.

I agree 100% with you. Thankfully I've never had a problem with Ryukishi's art. Takano is perfect in the original.
