I really like the Crypters having big dumb round table meetings at the start of probably every chapter. It's very chuuni in the same way that any organization of bad guys is, it gives us glimpses of their personalities long before their time in the limelight. It'll show progression and a chage in tone as the story moves along and less of them remain there, and it's a totally separate segment that can just be written by Nasu regardless of who writes the chapter. Shame it's wasted in GO shit.

Watching the art improve in the manga for Melty Blood through Melty Blood X was pretty interesting.

Although after the manga shifted from an adaptation to a comedy, it was a little sad to see a lot of the characters become more and more one-note jokes.Kohaku and Ciel got it particularly bad.

Tarantella in Dantes's drama CD was only last year, right? Feels like longer ago. I think they've been trying to some degree to keep fans of non-Fate stuff satisfied (especially Makoto Sanda and Narita), but it sucks that it's all references and side-characters in Fate projects. When will TM make a proper non-Fate thing, considering Mahoyo is 6 years old this year? I was excited for this kind of crossover shit in Extra, back when Servants were still cool and not oversaturated, now it just feels like a cheap excuse to not get away from their cash cow. And it wouldn't even hurt as much if the Fate stuff was good, but they can't put effort into it for shit. FGO gets progressively better, but in the grand scheme the very core of it is garbage.

Every chapter has basically the same structure of jerking over the latest gacha target for the first part meant to sell them to the sheep, broken up by !random mook of the chapter. The second part is an epic counterattack on the last boss consisting of still images (usually just expressions though) with cringeworthy action scenes told through text and a deus ex/power of friendship saving the day.

The story is told completely through exposition with 3-4 all-knowing characters at a time (davinci, holmes, mashu, roman). Not to mention it's all dialogue. With max two lines on screen. You constantly get dialogue choices (5-6 in the latest chapter per section) but they always result in the same thing with the exception of the choices where you can decide to fellate either mashu or davinci/holmes. So the game's entire purpose is self-insertion but it fails even at that.

They're inserting more and more retarded settings into fate like the furry fandom and outer fucking gods. Yes, adapted straight from lovecraft's books. And not in a good way.

I read some of nasu's older works recently and it's a shock how much this guy regressed. The difference between CCC and what came after is especially concerning to the point where some japs speculate if it isn't just a ghost writer after all.

Actually, one complaint I have early on (that the anime also suffered from) is that they totally skip Shiki's creepy stalking of Arc all the way to her apartment, and his initial reaction to killing her (running away screaming and puking all over).
He just kills her in the park, and passes out. It's even weirder because it's in public, and people would've run into Arcueid's remains.

Extracanonical Tsuki stuff like DAAs have appeared in Tsuki lore directly related to Tsuki characters. There's the apocryphal idea that EXTRAverse is fucked because the DAAs pulled off the Aylesbury Ritual, but again, that's Fate expounding on Tsuki concepts. Same with Fou(r) and Zel.


On being a shit-eater: it was always shit. All of the mystery and the cute little tricks to the world were Nasu abdicating worldbuilding and consistency duties. Tsukihime was an amateurish porn game. Rakkyo was generic urban fantasy with post-Eva Philosophy 101 bullshit. Notes doesn't even have the philosophy to save it. FSN was a less amateurish porn game that managed to have some strong, enduring characters in spite of itself. DDD is basically s-CRY-ed. Mahoyo is a disappointment. Notes might as well not exist. GO is a cheap cash grab that needed to be pulled from the brink by Nasu actually writing for it, in which he does about as well as he's done for anything else.

If you like the Nasuverse, you've been eating shit for over a decade. The flagships were new and innovative for their time, but times change. Nostalgia is nice (it's why I'm here), but it isn't real. The only thing keeping Tsuki without KT up now is nostalgia because holy christ is it bad besides parts of HisuKoha route. The pacing in Stay Night is horrendous, especially with HF. They try to do the HisuKoha route Shiki "slowly slipping into insanity" thing with both Shirou and Sakura, but the sheer size of the game makes it lose the claustrophobic tightness of the prose.

Legitimately the only thing that endures as quality is Melty Blood as a fighting game franchise. Which is probably why it got the tie-in manga.

It's the fact that they are outright abandoning everything else, and dumbing all of that down to parts of Fate that aren't even very good. There need to be proper, fully independent non-Fate works, or else you're just ruining your whole universe like you already fucking did with Fate.

I agree with you regarding Nasu not being the best writer -- in-fact, outside of nostalgia purposes I, too, find many parts of his early stuff straight up embarrassing to read -- but he always had a strong way with universe craft, atmosphere, and strong story climaxes. I feel as if his best qualities as a writer have diminished over the years as his technical expertise has improved. Of course, he also writes to a more boring audience these days, so that likely has a lot to do with it as well.

In my opinion, Mahoyo is only disappointing because we never got the other two promised installments, it's basically an unfinished story. But the first installment was strong -- if not particularly amazing in its plot. It was certainly amazing in its delivery, however, which was quite a step-up from previous Nasu-works where the delivery was lacking.

Oh, and bothering to mention Tsuki/FSN as porn games is kind of silly since the porn is in horrible quality, even for its time. Not to mention they are probably less than 3% of the script. I would honestly argue that some of the stuff that TM puts out these days when it comes to the sexualization of their characters is even more pandering and obnoxious, if not visually explicit.
