Imouto Paradise 2 still in MangaGamers Top 5 weekly chart despite A Kiss For The Petals being released and Funbag Fantasy: Sideboob Story pre-order.

Hope they are already having negotiations for Imouto Paradise 3 at this point.

I'm surprised that The Spirit Master of Retarnia is still in the Top 5 weekly chart despite being a decent at best dungeon crawler.
Maybe people are just that desperate for gameplay visual novels so they buy anything.
Would be really nice to get more non Rance gameplay visual novels (even I bought Retarnia).

Maidens of Michael has thus far peaked at 35 concurrent users on Steam. It has also shown nearly equal peaks in the morning and evening US time, and has 18 of 32 reviews thus far in English and most of the rest in Chinese, suggesting similar numbers in both markets.

As usual, peak concurrent users only suggests how well a title did at launch on Steam, and isn't directly tied to how successful the title will do in the long run, and there some additional variables that would affect concurrent users so a direct comparison between two titles won't be perfect (not to mention R18 titles will have a meaningful fraction going directly through MG instead of Steam). Still here is how it thus far compares to other launches by MG (concurrent peak ignores peaks that occurred later during bundles) That said, between the decent performance on MG's sales chart and the respectable initial peak, it is probably one of MG's better recent launches for a full length title, but at the same time, not some type of runaway success.

The Tsundere Idol Kickstarter has a bit over 3 days left and has shot up to 91% of its goal over the last couple days, so it now appears that they should reach its goal. Likely out of concern that it could fail to reach their goal, they opted to throw in a key for Wild Romance to anyone at the $19 tier a few days back. Given the choice between a Steam Key and a Fakku Key, the Steam Key remains the much more popular option with 115 backers choosing solely the Steam Key and just 21 backers choosing solely the Fakku Key. Separately, Momoiro Closet is up to $20k of $35k 6 days in, so it should have no problems reaching its goal, especially with an inevitable advertisement to the backers of their other Kickstarters and the original Grisaia Kickstarter.

Tsundere Idol managed to reach their goal on the second to last day. A bit over 24 hours remaining and it is $400 Canadian above its initial goal. That said, it is at just 310 backers and they aren't close to filling up either set of tiers for early adapters, so they likely were expecting a fair bit more. Frontwing's Momoiro Closet is nearing $24k, getting a bit of a boost from being included in the Grisaia update.

The Sekai bundle finished with 85,351 bundles sold, or roughly $634k. Averaging the default rate that would be roughly $412k going back to Sekai from the bundle. Sekai also put up a March 2nd release date for Creature Romances, and they seem to be going into overdrive trying to promote it as a meme game.

I'm hoping that the deal is extremely disadvantages on the part on Sekai, but that's wishful thinking. Any game with a fanbase will have plenty of people willing to sell their soul to get what they want. At the very least, I kind of doubt Muv Luv itself will sell a lot outside of bundles, but fan disks and various side material inevitably will.

MG has Rance. They can't really boast it to the "mainstream", but it's mainstream enough that it gets more notice than any VN without an anime.

Also the Steam release will be delayed relative to other platforms.

>The game is going to be released on Friday the 30th of March. The game will be available on Nutaku, FAKKU, and our website. The initial plan was to also release on Steam simultaneously, but apparently, we underestimated the extends of German bureaucracy relating to taxes, which is why there is going to be a short delay of a few weeks. We considered delaying the release on all other platforms as well, but we figured there would be no real point in making people wait if they're going to get the game on those other platforms anyway.

>The standard edition of Fureraba will be available for $29,99. The deluxe edition, which comes with the full OST of the game, for $36,99.

>We also have a little surprise for you as well. We're going to release Fureraba's mini FD later this year and to thank all those who want to support us from the very start, the FD is going to be available for free for all who preorder Fureraba in our store, or purchase the game before the 15th of April there. Of course, you will also be able to buy the FD on other platforms when released.

Truly madmen. A shame Sekai and JAST can't do something so basic.

Offering a delayed preorder bonus is interesting at least. It sounds neat, but it's probably the type of thing other companies would include with the original purchase of the game with no strings attached. Still, offering such an incentive may be enough to drive preorder sales and could perhaps get more money overall than offering a flat discount depending on how many preorders there are. The blatant downside is that they can't do a first week steam sale.

Tsundere Idol finished its Kickstarter with $11,293 Canadian (out of a $10,000 goal), with 350 backers, or roughly a $32 per backer average. That is obviously on the low end for both in backers and average per backer, but that isn't particularly surprising for a short, unremarkable nukige from a new company. That said, with them only clearing their goal by 12%, crowdfunding alone likely won't be reliable enough for them to continue funding translations of Norn nukige, as it isn't like the rest of Norn's library is significantly more appealing.

Denpasoft doesn't have all that much reach either, which negates much of the potential benefits of a stealth release. While Sekai has had reasons to keep the Denpa and Sekai brands separate, initially for press related reasons and now for them releases console titles, there is also a reason why Sekai has roughly 32k followers on Twitter and Denpa has just 6.5k as their efforts to build up social media has focused on the former until recently. I would also venture to estimate that Denpa has a relatively small mailing list compared to say, MG, and that with them jumping into the nukige market, that Yuri Ghost title and Girls With Glasses aren't exactly the noteworthy titles to jump start those efforts. Although the two titles may find more success once they get added to other platforms down the road.

Titles like Grisaia had months of delays for the 18+ version, the 18+ version of Chrono Clock had unedited H-scenes which made it unreadable and so on.

Cynicism is abound in this community, yes, but I think it's important to keep in mind that the majority of us just want companies to improve. None of us benefit from Sekai's lackluster releases. I remember even being a little hopeful for Sekai when they decided to make the smart decision of gagging Dovac more than a year ago. But it was nothing more of a PR stunt - hardly anything changed about their actual practices.

The main problem is that your average visual novel read, which is Sekai Projects and Frontwings main audience and target market, just doesn't care about translation quality. They see a visual novel and like the cute girls on the cover and buy it. It's as simple as that, translation quality or other localization issues is the least thing that they care about.

Back in the days MangaGamer mostly published on their own store page and sold a few visual novels on JAST, while steam was on 2nd place and they listened to their audience and improved.
Now you have all sorts of platforms to make money of, be it kickstarter, go go indie platform, steam, nutaku, fakku, etc. You can sell your questionable ''quality release'' anywhere you want and make money of it.

Dovac was right on one thing, why should they waste time and money and do 400 hours of QA when every of their kickstarters still gets funded, when every of their visual novels still sell and when people are still shilling and defending them to death (just go to reddit and look at the comments for the Leyline update).

They got the Muv Luv license a few days ago and are most likely going to publish/kickstart Kimi ga Nozomu Eien too.
I don't see them running out of companies/developers anytime soon.

The concept of skipping a good VN (or pirating it) doesn't register with most visual novel readers and that is why you can release any trash you want (until competing companies release the same title, but better).

But why do they want all-ages cheaper? If the answer is "It sells bettter", then free patches makes it sell better too. If selling better is not the argument, then why not put it at full price?

Ignoring for a moment how Sekai Project continues to fall back on everything being the developer's fault (conveniently Japanese developers aren't likely to check English forums), them selling an all-ages version for less does make some sense. If you consider the all-ages version to be censored with cut content then there are people who would likely get upset at paying full price. Cut content means you're getting a lesser product and it should be cheaper to compensate. You can think of it as a discount for those not interested in the 18+ content. Those people would probably not appreciate having to pay full price for content they don't want. Making someone feel like they got a good deal is one way to build consumer goodwill.

Of course, the downside is now they have people annoyed at the "18+ tax" who have been vocal with their complaints. I guess Sekai is banking on consumers who would only buy the all-ages version and would never touch an 18+ product. This seems like it all comes back to the how Sekai hates porn, isn't interested in serious fans of their product, and are chasing the larger casual market on Steam. Sekai would be ecstatic to appeal to a large all-ages crowd and drop the 18+ content altogether. A cheaper price is one way to try to appeal to that Steam market.

>> No.18527267

I disagree with the practice but I can understand the mindset of the cheaper all ages thing, but then to, in some cases, have the gall to charge half the price of the VN for 10 or so minutes of 18+ content is something else. I disagree.

People who dislike porn and want all-ages would be willing to pay MORE than the 18+ version if they could skip the porn as it takes away from the experience. It is in their opinion the superior product without weeaboo porn. Why should they get a discount because they get a product they like more than the original?

If an all-ages buyer ever feels discriminated against, they can always download the free patch and get the full game too. Just because you don't plan on using content does not validate a discount. Take an online MMO for example. If you pick PvE server, do you get 50% discount for not using PvP? No, there is no such silly thing as discounts based on choosing to avoid content.

In my opinion all-ages games are for the most part 18+ games with porn auto-skip. There is no difference, except you choose to skip content. If there are replacement scenes it just makes it even less acceptable with price difference as the all-ages has unique content that should be priced fully.

The only people who support all-ages discounts are people who want to pay less and only play all-ages versions. Which is a weird coincidence.

>> No.18527915

Hi, it’s been a while!
First, I would like to apologize for disappearing. And a big thank you for everyone who waited. My life has been kind of crazy these past years, partly because of health and financial problems. I always wanted to come back, but I just couldn’t, up until now.

About the project:
In February, I finished translating the game. After that, I started going through the script and fixing my mistakes, which there are quite a lot of. I’m trying to make it more understandable and unified, so I’ll take my time. My plan is to finish up in March and move on to the next game, but…

Problems:
I’ve been thinking about the legality of this, and I have to contact the publisher somehow. I need some kind of approval to post any part of the game. Even if it’s just a patch containing a single file. I doubt they’d go to court with me, but I don’t exactly want to get DMCA’d either. I’ve looked around a bit and most VN publishers are against fan translations, and take them down quickly. It would be sad if all of this would go to waste. So, if you have any suggestion about this, please leave a comment or contact me.

If everything goes well:
I want to keep on doing this. I have a list of games I want to work on, and I was thinking about putting up a poll, so you guys could vote about what should be the next one. But there is no point, if I don’t have approval from that publisher. For example I have a few Alice Soft games on the list, but I highly doubt they’d like that. We’ll see, though.

Anyway, I’ll try to keep you guys updated this time around! Thanks again!

LOL

Kinda sad we don't get Softhouse titles from MG anymore. They were a perfect mix of comedy + lewd

Fan translations are technically under fair use. Granted, the original company can DMCA you, but most companies don't bother unless you're selling the translation outright (like what Dark translations did way back in the day).

Whether or not you get DMCA'd for doing an Alicesoft game depends more on Mangagamer than Alicesoft. If you avoid any title MG isn't likely to license (like Atlach Nacha, Daiakuji, etc), Mangagamer isn't likely to bother you. Newer games are a bit more risky, but I doubt MG is likely to do anything older than Daiteikoku except maybe Galzoo Island.

Looking at the company that released the title and its parent brand it doesn't look like they've releases a title in years too.
