They seem to have access to Norn's full catalogue, and when they asked for suggestions they tentatively decided on the title that someone sent them a partial fan translation of (and since seem to have committed to). The fan translator previously had set up a paetron page to translate the title, and was at 8,48 % (250 / 2949 Lines) with their last update in June.

It's a shame, as whoever picked up Cherry Kiss seems passionate, but being restricted to Norn titles limits them from doing much meaningful, and their reaction seems like it will become "why isn't everyone else excited for our cheap, mediocre nukige." Not to mention, picking up the redone version of Wild Romance seems to have got them to realize that some costs such as translation aren't cheap for a title that isn't going to sell well, thus the hilarious attempt to fund a full blown nukige through Kickstarter.

It may be a struggle to get new releases to sell on Steam (with just Fashoning Little Miss Lonesome, Golden Fantasia, along with new chapters of Higurashi and Umineko making the top 10), but established titles seem to still be going strong. It also confirms Fata Morgana's long tail that had been noted on other metrics, as it was ranked 9th for Steam last year and 6th this year.

It's a tad surprising that W Happiness didn't make the Steam list, even with a Steam patch. Kouryuu had noted that Da Capo 3 showed a small preference for the MG version earlier this year, so it is possible that W Happiness showed a similar ratio. Nevertheless, if the ratio is anywhere near 50:50 it shows that equaling the best MG seller wouldn't be enough to make the top 10 list for Steam.

I suspect that Fashioning Miss Lonesome sold significantly more on Steam than MG to get that 10th place while Ozmafia didn't even register on MG site sales. I guess the otome fan base is more comfortable buying games on Steam than the actual site while moege fans buy about equally from MG and Steam, if the game is 18 plus. I wonder if that affects physical copy sales. Most of the other titles on the list have no real reason to buy on MG rather than Steam except for Eden unless you really want a DRM free copy. It is interesting how Eden is second on the list (not including bundle sales), and the minori fundraiser still seems hopeless.

MG has always tried to balance passion projects and stuff that sells well. It's probably the only full VN localization company that does it well enough without overusing kickstarter or having a partner company to fall back on (J-List and JAST USA).

For example, I'm sure they hope Damekoi will break even, but the company is hardly at the risk of collapsing if it doesn't, and they are still looking forward to release more Propeller titles even though neither of the titles they got did particularly well. Occasionally though, risky stuff has sold surprisingly well for them like Kara no Shoujo and arguably Higurashi and Go Go Nippon before they were put on Steam. Come to think of it, it's only relatively recently moege have sold well, maybe because of Steam. The Da Capo series has usually broken even, but no one expected III to do as well as it's doing now.

Episodic is a demerit. Higurashi sells well because it has an anime behind it at least. The Umineko release had the good sense to bunch up its chapters logically. Kuroinu is doing well because of being a nukige, but chapter 2 not being in the top 10 while chapter 1 is 5th place still shows that episodic is a bad idea.

This was MG's goal with Supipara though, they were hoping for it to follow Eden as a massive seller on Steam (was 75k on Steam before the recent Bundle), but it never was going to do that with being a Summer 2016 release. A quick look at Steam Spy suggests Supipara has made it up to about 3k copies, but even if it was around 10k (like Corona Blossom vol 1, a more appealing and better publicized VN released 2 days earlier) it still would have been a disappointment to minori looking to fund more expensive episodes of Supipara and MG looking for another smash hit, though of course MG would have been much happier with such a performance.

kuroinu chapter 2 isn't doing bad because it's episodic. It's doing bad because they made it episodic in the stupidest fucking way. it's ridiculously jarring and nothing makes any fucking sense. They're not dividing it up in a way that makes plot sense, they're dividing it up so that there's always 3 heroines regardless of what that means in terms of progression. Kuroinu is basically divided into 3 arcs. The opening, (capturing of the dark elf castle) the castle sieges, (capturing the heroines of the 7? castles), and then the finale where you take the heroines to market to pick their H-scenes. And you know the ending but that's a given.

With part 1 of the english release you raid the dark elf castle AND raid 1 of the castles. It's not portrayed properly though. You just raid the dark castle and then immediately raid that one specific castle and then immediately skip to the market phase, but there's no actual market because you're missing 6 heroines so they just cut out that bit completely and instead cuts to your base with options for the heroines.
Part 2 starts you at the castle select screen (Which you've never seen before because they cut it out of part 1 even though this is how you're supposed to select that 1 castle you raided) and now you're given 7 different castles to raid but 4 of them are grayed out (1 in the first game you've already raided and 3 more which are for part 3). Once you've raided the 3 castles it transitions to the market phase where it shows a cg of ALL the heroines captured and being transported to the market even though you've technically only raided 3(4) castles and are missing 3 heroines. It now goes to the heroine selection screen for their H-scenes, but only for the 3 heroines you've captured in part 2.

Not to mention that once you finish up a heroines scenes it immediately cuts back to the main menu which is so stupidly jarring because IMMEDIATELY when the scene ends it just cuts. There's no outro or sending you back to the heroine selection screen. It's just boom, main menu.

Sorcery Jokers has actually peaked at 22 concurrent users thus far, and it may end up peaking higher as that 22 peak was a few hours ago. Alright, here's the final verdict. I had missed one scene from the main game previously, which is dry humping - that's really not obvious from sadpanda, so you'll have to excuse me for that.
Other than that, the state of the gallery after finishing the game completely (2.5hrs on skip with no effects) is as you can see on the picture. I removed plot CG for plotfags. You get to access all the girls' epilogues at once, and yes, the epilogues are just H-scenes.
The game classifies it as 3 scenes per heroine, but considering it's 3 CG in rapid succession with one of them being foreplay, I would argue it's more like 2 scenes. So the developers expect you to read 8 H-scenes in a row as a "reward" for reading their chuuni story. That, or reading 1 at a time, only opening the game in future sessions to fap, same as a nukige. I really really don't like this system of detached H-scenes.
All the heroines seemed cute, though their voices were meh. MG kept honorifics, which is good. The fact that it's linear but trying to pretend that it's not in the beginning is absolute horseshit. I guess I will read it, but I wouldn't pay for it.

That's weird enough to put me off from buying it. Putting foreplay yet no actual sex within the plot is bizarre. Random foreplay with no sex within a plot is worse than random sex scenes in my opinion. It's like foreshadowing for something that never actually happens.
