Wait, I got one more thing. Call it Atelier Casey ~The Detective Alchemist~, like a detective solving a case.

>> No.18118588

An idea I honestly had was an NIS GUST cross over with alchemy mechanics but in a makai kingdom setting with the Disgaea art style and writing but Atelier like crafting mechanics. The main mechanic will be using alchemy to craft demons that will be your minions and weapons for them, rather than traveling the world you send out your minions to go collect ingredients but when you send them too far into human territory the humans see it as an invasion an send an attacking force to deal with you. After a lot of misunderstanding people think the main character is out to conquer the world so she is forced to defender her self by making stronger monster, demons, dragons and magical potions. Eventually through only wanting to defend herself, a bunch of misunderstanding, minions not following orders, and gross incompetence on her part, she actually becomes strong enough to conquer the world or creates a creatures that does so and everyone unites to defeat it.

All she wanted to do was bake some pies.

Just got my LydieSuelle box finally. With this, I now have all the original PS3/4 JP premium boxes of Arland, Dusk, and Mysterious. I really hope they go back to the Arland/Dusk style of boxes for the next trilogy. They were smaller but used higher quality material and were more sturdy. I had a hard time just opening the LydieSuelle box because the cardboard lip was really stubborn and I was trying not to tear it. The huge boxes look nice but they're harder to display too. Also disappointed that a corner was damaged slightly. CDJapan wrapped it in like 6 different layers of bubble wrap though so I'm not sure it's on them. It's really minor luckily and not very noticeable. Also, anyone know what's on the music CD? I'm a little worried because it's called "extra tracks and pleasure CD" or something like that. This better not be a self-insert type of thing like with Nep games where it's just a track of them fucking talking to you, otaku-kun. I'm assuming it's just the usual extra music tracks and that they haven't sunk that low. Tapestry is very cute too. That Lydie butt is for Suelle.

The small areas are the point of the game because the Rim is much smaller than the Wings of Horus, to say nothing of the Second Tower being the smallest of the three and also being incomplete. The conflict behind the creation of Metafalica larger would have made no sense if the region was larger).

Also, AT1 bears the sin of its Cosmospheres not being properly integrated into its plot and that a few of its events outright contradict the lore on how Song Magic and Diving work.

>>18175237
>>18175357

There was no budget downgrade, and bringing in the sprite quality as evidence is idiotic, as the sprite style was the same one that Gust had been using for Atelier Iris 3 and Mana Khemia. Plus, AT1 didn't really have that much variety in environments taking in account how the Tower interiors tileset was reused over and over, let alone sections of the Tower's own map being rooms that were copy-pasted whole.

Additionally, how a budget downgrade would translate to AT2 having more songs and anime FMVs than AT1, or hiring top-tier voice actors like Takehito Koyasu, Miyuki Sawashiro, Ami Koshimizu or Hikaru Midorikawa for voicing the characters?

That doesn't translate to budget cuts no matter how you try to spin it.

DD: The Ar tonelico's games have attracted some criticism from certain critics in the west for their sexualised content. Do you think this will be an issue with Ar nosurge as well?
AT: Is this criticism from someone who has played the game? The Ar tonelico series did have scenes where there was physical contact between male and female characters, but that was solely as a means to express the “bonds” between the characters. The main character enters the mental world of the heroine, and by unleashing strong emotions, powerful song magic is born. In order to show the true heart of the heroine, we had to show the real relationships – from friendship to sexual relations - between male and females; otherwise characters would just be symbolic and fake.

In order to show the true heart of the heroine, we had to show the real relationships – from friendship to sexual relations - between male and females; otherwise characters would just be symbolic and fake.

In Ar tonelico, we took theme of the strongest bond between humans as being the bond between men and women, as well as the deepening of bonds between partners, so having no situations of direct interactions between male and female characters would be humanly impossible.

In Ar nosurge there are elements like this. But it is necessary in order to show the growing bond between the main character and heroine. I think this is something that the people who actually play the game will understand.

So if there are people who just look at the visuals of the game and pick up only on characters dressed skimpily or screenshots of slightly titillating scenes and make a fuss about it, then similar criticism may arise for this title. But this is not the essence of the game, and in order to show the true hearts of humans and their bonds with one another, I do not intend on compromising on this.

Or they just overhauled the sprites' look because they wanted, just like it happened in the transition from Elie to Lilie or Lilie to Judie. Plus, as if the battle sprites in AT2 didn't have a similar look to the ones from AT1 or were even better animated than them.

>Easy, they focused their budget more on the songs and actors and reserved less for the visuals

>And 2 reused backgrounds from the cosmospheres of the first game.

In spite of the fact they also drew multiple new backgrounds, more than the ones they reused. And it'd make no sense if they hadn't reused at least the ones for the Tower of Life or the Stonehenge due to these being a standard part of the Cosmospheres' structure.

>>18181497
>>18181627

>Probably because the AT programmers were very lazy, so they render characters that the reyvateil/diver know.

They already gave an in-universe explanation for it: Reyvateils are connected to each other to the Tower and it's possible for their consciousnesses to seep into each other's Cosmospheres even if they haven't personally met.

Also, they didn't "reuse characters from the story for the Cosmospheres", they merely used the portraits for Jakuri as stand-ins for other people in only two specific sections of the Infelsphere.

>Look at some of the bugs Sarly left in Ar nosurge, fucking TxBIOS don't even work.

>Trying to assert sales figures based on incomplete numbers isn't remotely accurate. You can get a minimum known value, but that's far from total units sold.
The numbers have been incomplete ever since digital distribution became a thing, and it's been a thing since Rorona. If you want to argue that the reported physical sales have consistently gone down in comparison to digital sales going up, then sales for the games should logically follow a trend, but they don't. The sensible assumption to make is that the figures are still representative (and given Gust/KT's own released reports, they are), and not to claim that L&S selling poorly is totally only because it has way more digital sales for no reason, guys.

I didn't mean to imply that, but I understand how "far from total" would make it seem like I was. The launch looks weaker than Firis and nobody can really deny that. It's unlikely that digital sales make up the difference.

I wasn't really implying that. Just wanted to bring it up since its something to take into consideration. It may still not have done great but digital is more known about and used today compared to the previous generation. Also, something to think about is Vita and Switch being portable. I'm not an expert on Japanese culture but from what I understand, they utilize mobile gaming a lot. I could easily see these two being more likey to get digital sales though physical would still be the majority. Arland and Dusk games launched on home consoles and didn't get Vita versions until the ports. Again, not saying that it was the best launch ever but I think the environment today may be a little different.

On the PS3, almost all of my games were physical. On the Vita, about half of my games are physical (primarily because of Sony's bullshit proprietary storage making digital impractical). I currently own 11 Switch games (4 of which are $40+) and only a single one of them is physical; I do not intend to buy any other physical games as cartridge swapping is a hassle (but no problem if you own exactly 1 physical game), every single release is available digitally nowadays, and proper MicroSD support makes storage no problem at all. I even found myself paying extra to get digital instead of physical once because it was just so much more convenient.

Digital on consoles is growing very fast, and I think in particular for the Switch - the first handheld to have all releases available digitally and also a handheld with cheap storage - physical sales numbers are no longer reliable.

Though I'm not saying L&S's sales were not bad; it's the kind of title that appeals to players who usually prefer old-fashioned physical releases, so digital release sales are probably dependent on how many people beyond the usual fans bought the game - something which is very hard to guess at.

It was really fast paced and I loved Roxis shuffling the turn cards around.
We still have turn cards in the newer Ateliers, and they can still be moved around, but none as fun as Roxis.

Impressions so far (I'm still around chapter 4):
- Graphically it's impressive if you're on PS4. I guess that's where most of the budget went. If you're on Switch, it's less so. Vita... why bother. Comparison already made above.
- Soundtrack doesn't make much impression. Sophie still has better soundtrack. The only reason the music got stuck in my head is because I have to listen to a variety of arrangement of the same tune for hours.
- Character animation and facial expression is limited and stiff. Scene transitions are pretty abrupt. After a while, you start to feel everyone's repeating the same pose and facial expression over and over. They might as well go back to using static 2D tachi-e with this kind of quality.
- Story is weak, but chapter 1 to 3 is a rushed tutorial, and I'm still on chapter 4.
- Some character interactions are also pretty weak, can't say at this point.
- Areas are now larger, and has densely packed objects (enemies, gathering points).
- No time limit, just like Sophie. Time of the day (morning, noon, evening) decides what kind of monster appear and loot you can collect, etc.
- They added more depth to Sophie's alchemy puzzle. (しょくばい?) It's unlocked after chapter 3. So don't be surprised if synthesis feels very basic at chapter 1.
- You can switch between Lydie and Suelle at any time. Doesn't seem to make any difference, other than the Atelier's and battle BGM. They're inseperable so far.
- Some of the character events are good, some are pretty weak. Overall it's okay.

Other thoughts:
- Lydie needs better hair style and clothes. Also better illustrator.
- Suelle has a specific tone to her lines, and talks in lingo sometimes. Sounds like your average Tokyo JK that tries hard to be cute and cool. Kinda cute at first, but can get irritating sometimes. (Un)fortunately, this will most likely get lost in translation. Imagine dubbers trying to talk like a western high school girl.
- Suelle has an amazing smug face.
- Suelle a cute.
