This is nothing but an excuse. When people can actually prove their point, in at least half of the cases the opponent is forced to admit it. However, such people generally only care about their own work and don't just attack others, so there is no argument with them in the first place. On the other hand, people who don't draw themselves—especially those bitter fellows who tried to learn drawing but got mistaken about the means or their feelings and didn't make it—are the ones who complain most often, using only general words and personal feelings as the basis for their reasoning.

Yea, fellow artists never really hate on anyone, be it beginner or advanced. Some people are just dissatisfied with everything that isn't good AND "fameless". Ignore those. Most of them are not artists themselves - or failed ones, as already stated. And the only point where artist really become failed are when they give up on it.

Also, while I agree that you could have deduced who "post your art" was responding to, the post itself wasn't a reply to anything, so I can see why he wouldn't regard it as one. And it git him to post something, so that's good.

Another sketch from the sketchig spree.

He was the first to discover Aether.
He unraveled its nature, for he was wise.
With sculpting elements one could tether.

He crafted golems and brought them to life.
They obeyed the laws of Otiosum
Which brought upon us the new gift of rife.
And so was the beginning of the thrum

Otiosum ceded into a sloth
His creation catered his every need

I can tell you put lots of effort into this but it isn't working. You have a lot to improve, especially your anatomy and perspective. For example, you should be drawing eyes an equal distance from the nose. In general you want to imagine your subject as a three-dimensional object that you are drawing at a specific angle.
>>18072403
I like the colors a lot. If I could change anything, I'd raise her nose somewhat, and change the legs so that they're in a more natural stance. Whenever I'm have trouble with that, I just google image search "woman standing"

Actually, in 3/4, the nose should be shifted to the outer side, and the eye on that side will be visually closer to the nose. Like in this one: >>18072586

Hey, realization is the first step on the path to getting good. At least you won't get depressed, bitter, envious, and confused to the point of insanity starting to gnaw at your mind (to the point of starting to doubt that you view the world as it is) when you compare the reactions to your seemingly not-that-bad-anymore art and the art of others. And I really can't help being bugged by it for the last few months. A poor photo of a literally childlike drawing seems to have way more appeal in the eyes of Pixiv users than my pictures. There are people who get praised and eagerly defended when they make the same mistakes that I was trashed for in the past. I really shouldn't be that bitter mere hours away from New Year, but I still am. Despite trying to convince myself that I draw only for the sake of myself and the virtual lady of my heart, I still get heavily depressed when I'm being ignored despite my best efforts (in my first few months I was subject to harsh critique, but there is almost none nowadays—and I'm hardly happy with it) and become moved to tears from the slightest appraisal. Although it's somewhat consoling to know that I'm not alone in this regard, although I have always regarded myself as a lone wolf, and although I enjoy making and, um, enjoying my pictures likely even more than earlier, this year is leaving me with a feeling of cold emptiness in place of my heart that was burning with passion in the very beginning. Sorry. Couldn't hold this in anymore.

Returning to you, realization is the first step on the path to getting good. If you realize that your images look bad, you figure out the way to make them look good, set out milestones, and start working towards the next one in their sequence. If you're bad at something, you look up a way to make yourself good at it, use it, and git gud. You're bad at faces? Look up construction, head models on sketchfab, Reilly's/Loomis'/Houtengeki's methods, etc., and use whichever fits your way of thinking better. Copy references. Study images. Practice, practice, practice. That's how all the kewl boiz make it.

Atleast I'm making progress. A bit. Considering I barely draw and do all this without training or references.

I rather have legit critique on my pics than just soft talking and saying "ahw it looks good :3 *nuzzles you* sort of shit.

I tried drawing after practice models and teachings, just got more dissapointed I can't even draw simply stuff as shown in the references from the books and websites. So I said "screw that all, I'm drawing shit now"

Apparently, the lack of Dat Eraser makes it hard to recognize your pics. That, or you simply haven't posted for too long of a while.

In any case, it's important to draw what you like to draw while wanting to draw it good. You won't get anywhere as long as you're fine with drawing poorly, but it's important to recognize and accept that it's completely normal for a beginner to fuck up most of the time. Don't polish turds, but draw a lot of different things from varying angles. "A lot" means, like, a real lot. Try to set goals for yourself, like to draw no less than 30 pictures with considerable effort put into them per month. Learn the basics of perspective and dynamic drawing first. Then build up a visual database and work from it. If you don't know how to draw something and cannot use objects stored in your database to recreate it even remotely, look up references. Here are some links from my collection. Read them in this exact order.

Yeah, I usually hang out in a japanese IRC and talk with friends there and post my stuff.

But since it's mainly a 2hu chat, they never know of the girls I draw from that chinese mobage. So I started to take a pic of the drawing, of the drawing with the reference in the background and the actual reference. Dunno, guess my weak japanese knowledge makes it difficult to communicate at times. But this one is idiot proof.

Uh, do YOU want a gf, or do you feel that the artist wants a gf?

My only goal is to draw the best Yuuka in the world, and the way that lets me approach it closer doesn't really matter, be it black-and-white sketches/lineart like >>18082384, value-map-based paintings like >>18117927, or fully rendered pictures like the one above. Some lesser goals include background that would fit best Yuuka in the world. I look up to Asutora-sensei mainly, but the killer face for me is this one: https://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=51643281
I also like Minarai Honpo's faces, which is the reason I used to draw the eyes very, very wide.

Miyakouji, Ibuki Notsu, HaBaBa, and Aminu (coincidentally, the last picture posted for this author on danbooru happens to be the pic that I color-shifted and posted on an imageboard where Hatater was once lurking) all have great render skills, and I inspect their pictures closely to try and learn from them, but these fellows are THE pros at backgrounds, probably beating Makoto Shinkai himself (though you can't really compare single pictures with full-fledged anime):

Starting with the face, start by tracing an artist's outline.
Try to remember how they drew parts of the face, from the proportion to the style.
Then try to draw a face using the artist's style from your memory.
If things seems accurate, draw another face. This time try to mix your style into it.

Why would you want it to? That's retarded. Anime is meant to be relatively simple and undetailed so it's easier to animate. It will never look good because of that. That cap there is probably a blank face with her facial expressions layered over it and some flat coloring underneath the layers. I never watched it, but I'd be impressed if those stripes on her ribbon don't look like they're "sliding around" when she moves due to them being a just a layer of stripes her body is moving over.

Nice, although I prefer it when the shirt doesn't cover the hip. Btw, the cleavage looks kind of weird and sweatdrops don't work like that. And while your wish to have pretty colors is understandable, they don't really work like that. (I didn't fiddle with them here.)

Basically, the farther the surrounding colors are from any given "base" color in the image, the less saturated it should get, speaking from the POV of plausible shading. And every color gets deprived of saturation by darkness. This means you don't get saturated reds or greens in a night image with natural lighting or in a scene lit by a blue lamp.

usually its people saying i dont know perspective. i admit i get perspective wrong often, but they then tell me to stop drawing the figure and spean 2 WHOLE YEARS learning to copying perspective made easy. And its just, you can tell me to work on the perspective, but no matter what, DONT tell me to stop drawing my 2hu. ill learn to make perspective flawless while drawing the 2hu. I already know what 3-point perspective is and what loomis is (i own a lot of figure drawing books). These people need to realize that perspective and construction ARENT art, they are TOOLS used to draw 2hu, like vilppu said.

the biggest insult though is when an environmental drawer, someone who did nothing but draw scenery landscapes, told me to quit figure drawing to learn perspective, when she herself she never had painted or drew any figures once. So, i hope once i feel satisfied with how i draw 2hu, im gonna start drawing scenery to utterly anally annihilate the cunt

So yeah, drawing 2hu's is fighing an up hill battle. no one takes your art seriously until you start drawing some oring landscapes with basic perspetive.

fun with a mouse

>> No.18160906

I had just finished running through Chapter 1 now and I think I'm think I'm satisfied with it enough to share it with /jp/. (the one earlier was the prologue)

It starts, as it normally does, at the very beginning, when the MC logs into the game. Little does he know, he was actually already summoned into the isekai and it's no longer just a game anymore!
http://lemonseedlibrary.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-4.html

Please give me your feedback! I really appreciated the one above since it really made me think a bit more seriously about the work, which I think I needed.
-
So, after progressing a bit further with the story, I think I've finally come across a legit reason for this anon's question >>18154763

And it has to do with the assorted details that would seem otherwise seem anachronistic if it wasn't an MMORPG, and was just a medieval fantasy world.

For instance, cute clothing. I believe this to be very important. If it were played straight as medieval fantasy, then fantasy-style clothing, as we know it just seems completely out of place. This is because fantasy clothing isn't actually based on period tastes, but modern tastes overlaid on period style. Hell, a lot of times, it's just modern clothes, period. (I'm talking about your average japanese isekai, of course)

That was basically the most convincing (for me) reason to keep it an MMO, because yes, I did actually consider chucking the MMO bit out, when anon mentioned it. But aside from that, there's also the thing about language. Tb.h, I don't really want to faff about with a couple of chapters explaining how the MC got to speak the language in the isekai. With an MMO, it's simple - he was playing the English language version of the game. Set and done with one sentence. There are probably more things I'll discover as I run through more of the story, and indeed, some others where I'll regret setting it in an MMO, but I believe this is the path I really want to take it on going forward.

A praise of the lewd feet I drew for the New Year, coupled with a request for more, a personal question about pairing Yuukarin with Yukarin in the most recent Yuuka thread on this board, a desire to practice lewd faces, and the fact that these two are both very lewd women in my Gensokyo have led to this pic.

>>18172176
>> Their cuteness and purity really shines through that way.
Those who like old/ugly men fucking pretty girls give exactly the same reasoning, bro.
Although I share your sentiments, the reason for using faceless men is that it is easier for the general folk to associate oneself with somebody who lacks distinctive features.
E.g., draw a stickman, and people will easily associate themselves with him in a comic like xkcd, but draw a detailed realistic face of an exceptionally handsome man, and the immersion/fapability on average will decrease. Now, a POV doujin will most likely get you a lot of fans.
Of course, there's no scientific basis to all of this; just idle thoughts coming from personal observations.

I tried to study Iori a lot differently than I used to look at characters. First time I actually used points to mark details as well as noting what kind of degree angles I used. I know it's just a flat piece but it actually looks a lot better than the stuff I could do before.

I scrolled past this image like three or four times and I only realized it wasn't official art until until I saw the English. So, uh, yeah, good job. If it was colored she'd look better than she does in game.

The only things I can notice is that in the in the left image her arms appear to be short and her hands small. The human elbow extends to or just above the navel, hers appears to be well above that and it gives her arms a vaguely t-rexy appearance.
I also would put more focus into drawing your shoulders. Even in a relaxed position, the human shoulder is generally level with the collarbone. Try holding your shoulders down like Iori's are. Not very comfortable, is it? If you aren't already drawing the shoulder in your rough linework, you should consider starting, as that would help a lot.
And this is more of a suggestion, but most authors prefer to draw the clavicle, not the sternum, when adding detail to the chest. I can't really describe why in concrete terms, I guess it just looks cuter. You might want to give it a shot.
Seriously though, great fucking stuff. I know guys who would sell their left nipple to draw like this.

Thanks for clarifying that one-word critique. Does this look a tad better?

Not the person from before but it just feels like if she stood up she would have tiny dwarf legs. I'm not that good at drawing though so I can't point out how to fix it.

I guess I shall do it then, beofre the thread dies.

The issue with her legs requires a lot of fixing, but basically:
1) They are closer to the viewer (the only thing that's closer is her forearm and her hand), so they appear bigger than normal.
2) You can't really put your heels on the ground in this position. When you squat like that, you can only keep your heels touching the ground until the lower legs are vertical.
3) The angle is not exactly interesting though. It would be better if you lowered the camera further, put it right under her knees, and used three-point perspective. It's up to you, of course.

Nice work on that. Don't see a problem anymore.

Yeah, but the far foot still has to be fixed, as it can't possibly appear this small.
