When /jp/ was first created, the people pushing for it to be about Japanese culture were surely trolling. Nowadays it feels like quite a few people really believe that is /jp/'s purpose.

See here's the thing. 4chan the way it is now is pure shit due to the fact that no one takes it seriously. 4chan in general (yes, even /b/; in b4 /b/ was never good, because that just proves that you don't know what the fuck you're talking about) was fucking awesome when I first got here and turned to shit once I started thinking that everyone on 4chan was a troll. In other words, the exact opposite of OP.

And the reason 4chan is so bad now (for boards such as /a/, /v/, etc.) is that most of the good people got tired of a multitude of things, such as bad mods, moot, obviously underage influx, etc.

Compare /a/ of today to /a/ even a year ago. The difference is night and day.
