Okay, I'm not doing it for prefectures and cities, but I did it for the regions (and a few sub-regions). Problem is, I already progressed in the version of the deck I edited, so now the order is fucked up in the exported apkg file (for previous edits, I was starting new Anki profiles and doing the editing there, but this time I forgot to), and I can't be bothered to fix it.

If anyone wants me to, I guess I can upload .txt files of the descriptions somewhere, then that way you can add them to the cards yourself. The Hokkaido card has a massive wall of text, which couldn't really be avoided because I wanted to cover the history of how it became part of Japan. The other regions are comparatively more concise (but still quite long...). As well as information about the geography and notable features of the regions, I included information about their dialects. There's not much on the cards that you can't just learn from reading Wikipedia though.

I also added one extra city (Beppu) to the deck because I mentioned it on the Kyushu region's card. It's apparently famous in Japan for its hotsprings. If you want to add it to your deck, the Wikipedia page with all the info you need for the card is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beppu

I don't think I will be doing any more to this deck after this, beyond adding the occasional new city that I come across which seems worth learning (like Beppu).

I studied Japanese for 4 months only, had to stop due to working close to 16 hours a day.

I have time to back to studying now and might go back to it.

However, what I thought was funny is this - I remember back when I was studying, it was very difficult to retain vocabulary and Kanji knowledge.

Like, ok, I did retain well but I was studying for 4 hours a day and doing my reviews religiously yada yada. Fast forward 1 year without studying, and now it seems I can remember just as easily the things I thought were difficult back when I was studying. How the hell is that possible?

Literally how, 50 kanji a day isn't taxing at all, the worst part are the new cards anyway (reading the stories and getting a good mental image takes longer than the reviews). Just do them when you are comfortable, I do them during my hour long morning bath.
Doing them while doing something you enjoy removes the negative feelings I associated with Anki before. There are no distractions either (no games on my phone, I go there without headphones, browsing on a phone would be a chore), so you just lie back, relax, and get it over with.

Get away from artificial environments (textbooks, flashcards, etc.) and just start reading and listening to native material. If you don't understand a sentence, don't beat yourself up about it. You had that experience no end of times when you learned English, you just don't remember it.

The key to staying motivated is to read and listen to things that you actually want to read and listen to. Don't let anyone tell you "you have to read X because you're at Y level", and don't force yourself to keep reading/listening to something which you thought would be interesting but turned out to be boring.

Anki and textbooks are good ways to get your foot in the door, but you have to accept that until you start reading on a regular basis, they're going to be very slow. Anki only gets fast once you start mining, and textbooks only get fast once you're already familiar with what they're saying on an intuitive level but don't understand how to explain things.

I started reading manga with furigana after seeing around 1k words in Core 6k, and at first, I thought the experience was torture. But the moment I realized I was having fun and didn't want to look up the words I could guess (even inaccurately) from context, it stopped being painful. It only took a few hours.

It's all about how you look at things. What is reading TO YOU? Is it slaving over a dictionary because you need to be sure you know what all the words mean? Anki does work, but it's not for everyone. Speaking from personal experience, I found that Anki just stressed me out and put me in a negative mindset by emphasising the things I was struggling with, so I stopped using it. When you say "simplifications" I'll again assume you mean common quirks that appear when handwriting and not intentional simplifications (which is ryakuji, which is another thing)

Sure, there are some patterns, one of the most common and obvious would be the diagonal stroke that appears when you write an equals sign without picking up the pen or dropping it too early. Another would be lines crossing each other when they shouldn't (e.g. ヒ looking like 七) or not connecting when they should （木 and ホ）Some hiragana like し and い tend to shrink a lot while others like お and あ often get larger. But that info is basically useless trivia and accumulating it will not grant you handwriting literacy.

Just focus on increasing your vocabulary and general Japanese skill and so you can develop the ability to generate guesses based on silhouettes and eliminate stupid ones with increasing speed and you'll do fine.

Original editor here. I'm not sure exactly how the deck I'm using now differs from the various back-ups I made, so I'm working on exporting the deck I'm using personally and fixing the order manually rather than trying to backport the info and possibly missing something out.

I'm also changing the ordering of the Tokyo special ward cards because it isn't very good. It starts right in the middle which makes it quite difficult to get your bearings on which ward is which as a result (at least, that has been my experience). I think it will work much better if it starts from the outskirts and moves inwards.

This should be the final, complete version when finished. Dunno how long it's gonna take me, but hopefully not too long.

I started to ease into them after being exposed to around a thousand words. It depends on what you're looking up -- sometimes you'll be able to understand it and other times you won't due to all the unknown words. I recommend starting with J-J and if you don't know a word or two in the definition, look those up J-J. If you still don't get it just go J-E or whatever your native language is and don't sweat it. Eventually you'll be using J-J more and more as you accumulate experience with more words.

Having a hard time understanding 浴びせられる (why is it in passive form) in "玲子を取り囲みながら浴びせられる嘲りの言葉". From the beginning of the sentence "玲子を取り囲み" I'm understanding that the subject is the people surrounding her, and not her. So I'm seeing the whole sentence as something like "while (they) surround Reiko, (they) shower her with scornful words", but 浴びせる being in passive form doesn't fit with that which means I'm surely wrong in my interpretation. The one being showered with scornful words, from context, is surely Reiko, so I thought I could maybe think as if Reiko was actually the subject and not the people surrounding her, but then it wouldn't make sense with the first half of the sentence because it would be like she was surrounding herself which is retarded.
浴びせる being in passive in this sentence makes it look to me like whatever is surrounding Reiko is the thing being showered with scornful words but then it doesn't fit the context because the people surrounding her are not the ones being acted upon, they are the ones acting.

I know this question probably retarded as fuck but that's how bad I am at the moment. I need help.

The implied subject of 浴びせられる is 嘲り, not 玲子. The 嘲り is poured on (玲子). Google "が浴びせられる" if you doubt this.
