Regardless, Marisa is explicitly a normal human in terms of physical ability, youkai are far stronger physically. A gun would probably do very little to a youkai.

Touhou isn't entirely true to Japanese myth, anon.
Reading the lore, two things are made all but explicit.
A). Youkai will fake weaknesses and retreat when they have the advantage, as killing off too many humans would be bad for them. It's better to become a legend than to have a small, short lived feast.
B). Youkai are ridiculously hardy physically, able to survive having limbs torn off, and far stronger physically than a normal human.

Not to say that youkai are immortal in Touhou, or completely immune to damage, but trying to kill them via physical means is like trying to kill a swarm of flies with a bastard sword. It's possible, but it's incredibly difficult and you're not using the best tool for the job.

You should never take any small details seriously because ZUN always changes shit. Touhou is very casual in that regard: it's weak against obsessive analysis, and what's canon today is retconned or doesn't make sense tomorrow. Ironic, considering the level of dedication the games take to get into.
