Anyone else watching "Naotora: Lady Warlord"? I was really enjoying it in the beginning when they were little kids but haven't enjoyed it so much since the timeskip.

There was too much focus on the awful Naochika/Naotora romance. Naochika wasn't even a great character. And when that's finally over they turn the most likeable character, who they constantly have had suffering, into the villain for some reason. That just made caring for Naotora even more annoying now that she's actually doing shit. At least it seems like he's going back to his old more sympathetic self next episode (15).

Anyone ever watch variety shows?
They usually have celebs or comedians on to partake in quizzes or games. Never found out why and never figured out names of such shows. Used to catch them when flipping through channels when I was in Japan, but can't do that anymore unless there are streams up somewhere for filthy gaijin.

I guess idols got big enough that they could have shows dedicated to bullying whole groups instead of inviting a few of them onto a show along with a bunch of other guests. Those are popular enough to have downloads available pretty quickly right?

If I can't stumble on shows from channel flipping, maybe I should develop some fandom toward someone and figure out when they're scheduled for guest appearances.

Considering AKBingo being more well known overseas than AKB48 itself and them being one of the most if not the most well known female idol group in Japan, says something.

Not related to variety shows: I really liked "Tonbi" (2013 version). Anyone has something similar to recommend?

Saw a webm a while ago, and I don't know if I saved it, but it was of this Japanese guy with a shotgun, the double-barreled kind, shooting a bunch of kids in a school. Think it was at night, and the webm largely consisted of them cowering at the top of a stairwell while he shot them.
It was pretty edgy, but it piqued my interest. Ring any bells?

Unless we're talking about legal streaming. That's a bit of a different story. It's just fags being edgy. Also, Crunchyroll started replacing older episodes with copies at a lower bitrate. It's unnoticeable on most shows unless they have a ton of certain shades of black like old scifi anime from the '80s.

I wholly disagree with you, I feel as though Ex-Aid removes everything that makes Rider good - the side characters, the world building, comedy, and throws it all out of the window for a poorly written rushed main plot by a writer who clearly *can't* handle it all by himself, with cheap bad action sequences filled on go-pros which ruins the cinematic and professional look the show had been building up between Wizard and including Drive. There's melodrama galore, every single character is related to another in some plot specific way... it's a fucking car crash of a show.

If you mean "the best the series has been since last year", then you might be right. Maybe compared to Ghost Ex-Aid might be a fine show, sure, but compared to Drive, Gaim, Fourze, OOO and W it's absolutely dogshit. Not even going to compare it to Kuuga or any of the early Heisei series.

>>17171208
I don't see why you have an issue with the gopro shots, they bring out some interesting angles like the rocket punch camera in Gekitotsu Robot's debut episode. I also don't see why every character having some kind of relation is a bad thing either, it keeps the cast at a reasonable size and allows them all to play off each other better. I can agree that it's not as good as W/OOO/Fourze, most early Heisei and Drive, but it definitely is better than Gaim I feel.

I really really want to try acting in Japan. In tv shows or movies.

I can pronounce Japanese pretty good B+
but my Japanese isn't so good. Just very basic, but making progress.
I know a couple of foreign actors in Japan who were able to achieve their career when they still had their tourist visa.

I kinda want to act in teen dramas. I'm 23 but I still look like as if I were 17, And there are a lot of actors in their early 20s who act like they were younger. It makes me think that it strengthens my chances a tiny bit.
I plan to move to Japan in August, and try to attend auditions when I get there. I have good acting skills aswell.

In my personal opinion, I'd say I have about 10 to 23% success rate. I would most likely have higher chances if I spoke N2 or N1 Japanese, But I will probably become a full adult until then and will probably be too old to star as a young character. But I still want to give it a go.
If not then I can probably make a fool of myself and play in commercials.
Just sharing my ambitions...

You can't be serious, Ex-Aid has one of the most likeable casts in any Rider, great use video game tropes and a coherent theme, something we don't have since Gaim/W.

I also think Wizard and Drive action was better, but just like Ex-Aid, they too were going for the whole ''spaming the new power up while a bunch of FX's play in the background'' thing.

If anything, the show can be enjoyed just for Kuroto, one of the most entertaining Rider in a long time.

There aren't any. The best you can find is stuff from a few months back in poor quality on chink streaming sites.

You want to watch something from 20 years ago? Unless it's being re-run, you're never going to see it. There's no good source of any of this stuff, because nips don't seem to care about preservation, and even if they did, we're talking an obscene amount of programming to save.

Pick a genre you think you might enjoy.
Judge the show by it's cover. When I started stuff that looked interesting from a glance turned out to be right up my alley.
Give it time. Episodic dramas can be a bit slow or try to throw the viewer off. One example is you think X and Y might get together but then X falls in love with Z mid-series only for X to realize they love Y more. Also if you're the type to drop a show for superficial reason you're not gonna enjoy dramas too much.

I'm no expert on encoding so apart from deinterlacing with avisynth I didn't really run it through a ton of filters.

I would really appreciate it if someone would be willing to help me fix the translations, my Japanese isn't that great so I'm just fixing the bad translation where it's obvious however I keep finding lines which I know are incorrect but can't fix.

If you're interested you can message me on AvistiaZ under Rainie or let me know on here how to contact you. I can also upload episode 1 somewhere if you want to help work on it. If there is any filter suggestions for me to use on the encodes I can do that as well. My computer is quite fast so it's not an issue.

will you leave them as PGS or OCR them into SRT/ASS? I don't mind either way since I would just do the latter myself in SubtitleEdit. But what I really want is the timing for the BDs. The D-addicts subs are synced to DVDs (?) and there's no doubt differences in timing bc of menus and whatnot.

Actually the DVD subs perfectly match up with the BDs they didnt even have a menu on them. This project was me originally re-timing/fixing the subs for the HDTV release and i got to 6/11 but now that I decided I want to do the BDs I am re-timing the episodes back to their original DVD timing.

With the episodes I didn't re-time for HDTV they are already frame-perfect timing with the DVDs, only off by 1 frame in some spots due to interlacing.

On second thought, those jp subs you linked were missing lines due to not having the deleted scenes so the timing is off.

Since you're going to OCR them anyway could you do it now? It would help me a lot with fixing the translations If I could copy/paste the moon runes. And I would be able to include the srt/ass file in the final release rather than the PGS subtitles.

Hopefully you can open Rar files, I managed to compress it from 800mb down to 37mb. https://my.mixtape.moe/ybwvjo.rar

Anyone know where I could find Ryōmaden with subtitles? I'm Scottish and was reading about some of my history and how Kaichi Watanabe was a japanese engineer who helped pioneer the cantilever principle for suspension bridge design (forth road bridge) which lead to reading about how Japanese during the period were smuggled into Scotland to learn ship design and engineering by Thomas Blake Glover.

Thomas Blake Glover was a Scottish rogue trader who supplied the Satsuma and Choshu region with weapons against the British treaties so they could overthrow the shogunate and then went onto forming Mitsubishi, building the first imperial warship, trade relations and such. As such, I found that this drama series covers this period of history since one of the characters (Iwasaki Yatarō) is the president of Mitsubishi but can't find it anywhere.

Japanese celebrities are a lot more private with their personal lives. Considering their industries work on a weird organized and legalized slave system know as talent agencies. The bigger the name the more they get death threats, stalkers, envelopes full of cum. So they wouldn't want their children exposed to the masses via a "reality" show.

>> No.17351129

Return of Superman works because the celebrities are older, and already have established lives. They don't have to worry about tabloid nonsense usually once they're married with kids (you don't publicly talk smack about a married family man in Korea). A lot of these guys are using the show to stay relevant in the hyper-competitive Korean entertainment industry.

In Japan, big name celebrities tend to pull back from the public eye once they're married with kids. They don't have the same kind of swim-or-sink competition that is seen in Korean entertainment, so shows like that wouldn't have much appeal to them.

Reality television is also only just now gaining traction in Asia. Even then it's usually variety-reality.
