How can anyone miss the point of Battle's characterization so badly?

Battler is a broken nihilist who doesn't find value about anything and it's the reason why he has such a laid back attitude and reads mystery novels. The irony is that the one strong stance he ever took in his life, forgoing his family name, was based on incorrect information that he left his mother for another woman.

His entire goddamn story is a lesson on truth and how we let it dictate our lives.

Who would you cast?
I still think Johnny Depp as Ronove was the best thing that came out of that thread. Just perfect.

But who would play the main cast? I have no idea about Battler or Beato for starters.

Jessica is a hot piece of ass, she should be the main target. The fact that most of Beatrice's furniture look like sexy half naked girls is proof that Yasu knows girls are objectively more attractive than guys.

According to someone in the last thread, the new translation is practically the same. The absolutely terrible retranslation where Beatrice says "fucking" three times in the same sentence in EP4 was, according to that anon, made by some russian guy with a poor grasp of English.

I still don't believe it. The translation was clearly made by a native English speaker, it's just fucking terrible. Battle uses the word "goddamned" way too often, to the point it becomes ridiculous. I also don't understand why a fan of Umineko would dedicate months of their life to retranslate the whole thing. And why the fuck are some people playing Umineko with that translation if it's not the work of Mangagamer? Who is responsible for spreading that shit knowing it's so bad?

Expect your friend to chuckle at things "Rokkenjimagate" or the thousand year old Beatrice saying "motherfucker" in serious scenes. But who cares, you are already watering down his experience by telling him to use the PS3 patches. I hope he enjoys the CRINGY as fuck CGs and missing out on the charm of the original sprites.

If you really want PS3 sprites, go for it. But avoid any other "fancy" patches that might ruin your friend's immersion, like the one that tells you the name of a music track every time it changes.

Also, the scene where Ange jumps from the skyscaper was ruined by either a patch or Mangagamer's engine. I don't know which. The song that is supposed to play until the end of that scene is "forced" to play by itself during a credits screen, leaving the part where she jumps completely silent.

I'd say avoid all these potential problems and download the old release like we all did back in the day. Your friend can wait for a few more days if it will make the experience much better.

So according to them things like "Rokkenjimagate" is a apparently a "higher standard"

Maybe if someone already played through the original and wanted to re-read it with a shiny new experience, plus great voice-acting? Or feels compelled to experience the PS3 version because it looks like a significant improvement in every way on the surface? Newcomers wouldn't know any better, and I don't think they'll care too much either as much as the fans who already read it do.

There are people that complained that the Mangagamer version was nothing like the PS3 version because of lacking voice acting and better art, despite the PS3 version costing significantly more and being for the PS3 and not the PC.

That said, I do see how it would be tricky. They might have to adjust the narrative a little and say that Shannon and Kanon are twins, the plot twist could still work, as it turns out they're actually one and the same.

I wouldn't really consider Mion to be a good person. She does some morally grey things such as hiding corpses for her friends and can also be considered partially responsible for Rina's death in some of the episodes. I also don't remember her having any moral problems with all of the shady things her family does, which makes it seem like she'll continue the tortures and everything once she becomes the boss.

She's just really good at separating her family life from her personal life, since she's probably the nicest character in the whole VN when she's around her friends.

Why do Umineko let's players try to read the narration out loud even during the EP1 and EP2 credits? Why don't they realize that the text goes too fast for them to read out loud? Why do they keep trying to read it out loud until they give up, barely understanding what they even read because they were desperately trying to read all that shit as fast as possible? I mean, what the fuck? I would just read it mentally and then say what I think about it, which is the reason people are watching the video in the first place. It's common sense.

Why does the text go so fast anyway? I can't imagine ever being fluent enough in Japanese to read that shit comfortably, especially if it was my first time reading Umineko. Fucking kanji, man.

Wait, what? Holy shit, did that happen because Rena told Mion about her problems? I never thought much about it, I just assumed that the problem disappeared after Rena decided to talk to her friend because of karma or whatever. I didn't realize Mion could have arranged something.

I don't think Mion is an angel, but helping her friend get away with killing Teppei and being responsible for that bitch's death makes her a good person in my opinion. They were complete wastes of oxygen.

Higurashi preaches that murder isn't the right solution to those problems. But I don't think Ryukishi meant that it was morally wrong. It's just that killing that piece of shit would ruin K1's life. He would be traumatized for life, have constant nightmares about Teppei's disfigured corpse or his ghost coming back to haunt him, and live in a constant state of paranoia because the police could find out the truth one day and ruin his life.

Was the disappearance of Teppei's corpse ever explained? There are several valid blue truths, but none of them are confirmed to be the right answer as far as I know.

Mion using her influence to move the body somewhere else is the most popular theory. And it was hinted at in Tsumihoroboshi, when Mion and the others helped Rena hide the dismembered bodies. But how the fuck did Mion know where Teppei was buried if she was at the festival? I doubt she sent people to spy on K1 as he killed Teppei.

Another theory is that Takano knew about the murder and had the yamainu get rid of it. She can't have the police investigating a murder in the village when she's planning to gas everyone in a few days. She also seemed to know about the murder, even though she pretended it was a joke. She even threatened K1 before leaving.

The third theory is that K1 spent so much time planning the murder and digging the first hole while reflecting on his life, that he simply forgot about the second hole he had to improvise when Teppei made him run too far away. When he woke up the next morning, he had forgotten most of the details of that surreal night, including the fact that he had to dig a second hole after the murder, and was convinced that he buried Teppei in the first hole. That's why he couldn't find the body. He was searching in the wrong place. It makes sense that he would forget about the details, he wasn't even sure if the events of that night had been real or just a dream.

Rena and Maria appear to be your typical kawaii uguu anime girl that behaves like a preschooler and makes cute sounds. But Rena is totally faking that shit to hide her depression and Maria is considered an autistic weirdo for saying "uu-uu" all the time.

>and live in a constant state of paranoia because the police could find out the truth one day and ruin his life.

It's interesting how that's something R07 conveyed with K1's increasing paranoia and guilt, but it's also something that Mion has to go through all her life. She's pretty much an accomplice to all of the tortures and murders her family committed and probably made the call on a few of them. She knows that if someone screws up or if Oiishi gets the right evidence, that she'll permanently lose the life she had with her friends in Hinamizawa.

It's almost like she's constantly living the life that K1 lived after killing Teppei, though nowhere near as bad since she doesn't have the Hinamizawa syndrome. She's also confident that her family won't be caught, but the idea of it happening is still probably in the back of her mind.

It really makes me wish that R07 spent more time expanding on Mion's character more or at least showed her thoughts like he did with Rena and Rika. Especially since one of the major themes of Higurashi is the whole thing of murder not being the solution to your problems, even though Mion's family solves a lot of their problems through murder.

Maybe Mion and friends were only pretending that they spent time at the festival together to provide an alibi for him. Keiichi wasn't exactly being subtle. I think they must have known he planned to kill Teppei even before he called Mion the morning of the festival to tell her to take Satoko along to the festival without him. They already knew this was coming, and had decided to have Rena tail him in that situation, both to help him finish off Teppei if he messed up and to help him with disposing of the body (preferably without his knowledge).

>>16868547
This. Though I'm not sure Rena really counts as legit depressed. She does seem to find meaning in the relationships she has been able to form in Hinamizawa, and (in some arcs more than in others) she's pretty clearheaded and reliable. When I'm depressed I just curl up in a corner and don't get anything done, and I sure as hell don't go around spending time with my friends of my own accord.
And if she is depressed, and she still has the strength to live the way she does that's not something to be ashamed of. "Fake it till you make it" seems to be working out just fine for her.

The way I see it it's a kind of roleplayer mentality. Rena could easily beat all of her friends in clubactivities if she played to win, but her aim is to have fun with them (this is still a pretty big theme in Umineko). Her "personality" is her way of engaging with her friends in a casual way. It gives her an excuse for losing a lot of times - she enjoys doing the punishments, and she enjoys seeing her friends win. It allows her to goof off without feeling silly. It makes people feel less inadequate when they are around her. I think her pretending has more to do with her being too intelligent for her own good than with being depressed.

This kind of social game is something normies never have to learn. They have an average amount of mental resources, so they naturally fall into a role. If you're too good at too many things you actively have to decide your role.

The focus on categories like gender, class, race, etc. is boring structuralist crap though. Out of all the changes changes you could make to the way a character; why focus on the most superficial ones?

How about if Mion had a more strained relationship with her family, or if Rena were to adopt a different personality when interacting with her friends while still being the same person? The Steam version is the best way to go. Whether the PS3 graphics patch is applied or not, it's all up to your friend. Personally, I would recommend downloading it, since the voice acting is absolutely superb, with some big names among the cast. Sayaka Ohara's performance as Beatrice is simply stunning and is definitely worth hearing in my opinion.

The translation used in the Steam version was handled by the Witch Hunt themselves, and is hardly any different from the original, other than some grammatical improvements. It fixes a few translation errors found in the original and reads much more smoothly overall.

You can read more about it here: https://forum.rokkenjima.org/t/an-announcement-by-the-witch-hunts-usagitenpura-regarding-uminekos-upcoming-steam-release/380

As for PS3 sprites for the Steam version, there is 07th Mod's patch, which is available over at GitHub. This patch only implements voice acting, CGs and replaces the sprites and backgrounds, nothing more. It does not edit the script in any way.

On the other hand, you've got the 'Umineko Project', which is not a patch but an entire, standalone program. It is a full port of the PS3 game, and features flashier effects, animated lip syncing and a 1080p resolution. It uses a supposedly 'enhanced' translation, based on that of the original, but as you can see on the previous posts, it can get ridiculous at times. The 1080p graphics and effects can be tempting, but I would advise refraining from downloading this version.

Alright, I think I get where you're coming from now, and you're okay.

The sort of person I'm riling on about is the type that reads a genderswapped version of romeo and juliet (which is to say, one that swaps out the names and pronouns of the original script), thinks they've witnessed some kind of important statement about our cultural heritage and decides to write their fucking bachelors thesis on it. It's a meme. The reason it's a phenomenon isn't that it's insightful, but only that it can be done to almost anything. Stop pretending to be an intellectual when you can't even think outside of categories other people have decided for you. Sorry. I'm done now.

>can also be considered partially responsible for Rina's death in some of the episodes.
No, Mion is absolutely responsible for Rina's death.

You'll notice that when Teppei comes back to Hinamizawa's it's because Rina is killed or has gone missing. Rika says that the odds of him returning to the village are low, meaning there is some causal effect that makes him return yet is very rare to occur. In ep 7, Rena mentions that she opened up to Mion about her house problems, and the issue got better. Of course, Rina always had debts to the Sonozaki, but you don't randomly kill people that owe you debts, as they can't pay you back, and it wasn't as if Rina was skipping town or anything.

In short, the reason why Teppei comes to torment Satoko is because Rena opened up to Mion, who then took care of the problem by using her connections to make Rina pay up with her life. It's also the reason why Rina doesn't die by torture in any other episodes.

Remember, this is causality. Every action is linked.

Alright. First off, this is more of a narrative-driven theory than a puzzlesolving one, so I'm going to focus on the way those aspects fit together.
Rule x: Kinzo is dead at the start of all games
Rule y: Kanon and Shannon are the same person
Rule z: The game ends on October 5th 24:00

I believe Maria is shown to be aware of many of the things she at first appears to be ignorant about.
She pretends that she doesn't know that her mother is going on adult vacations when she gathered as much a long time ago when she called at her workplace.
She uses the explanation that her mother is possessed by a witch - seemingly in earnest - but at the end of Turn she is shown to understand that "there is not good or bad mom, both of them are the same person". This can be interpreted as her giving her mother a way to disassociate herself from her own actions. She's using magic so her mother will again be able to take her hand after beating her up.
Also she seems to be blissfully unaware of the nature of the game she is participating in, yet she is the first one to figure out that Battler and his parents are the culprits in Bernkastels game, she has solved all of the wolf and sheep puzzles and she's generally far more knowledgable than a 9 year old has any right to be.
Can you really make yourself believe that she couldn't see through a trick as simple as "close your eyes while I make a candy appear through magic" if she wanted to? I think it makes much more sense that she is willingly obscuring the truth to create the illusion of the witch.
Remember Marias diary, and the fact that she transformed all of the terrible things that happened to her into fun times. She didn't do that to protect herself, - that kind of interpretation doesn't work if she's able to see through her own magic - but to protect the memory of her mother.
During the events of the Rokkenjima murders Maria covers for the culprit to create the "possibility that a witch did it". "Her goal is not to make someone experience fear. And it isn't to have revenge on someone either. Beato never committed murder for the sake of pleasure." Mariatrice is not the culprit, so she could deny any motive Battler could come up with.

So, why does Maria take the appearance of Beatrice in the metaworld? And why does Ange get a Beatrice doll at the end of episode 8?
This is where the idea that Maria is Battlers daughter comes into play.
Let's say Rosa had a child with Battler, who met with her in secret during the following years. "The man who left her" was nothing more than a cover story she made up to hide the fact that her daughter was the product of incest. That is, until Battlers mother died. When he disappeared from the Ushiromiya Family and left her behind she banished her feelings into a doll that had all the properties he had told her he liked in a woman and gave that doll to her daughter, "passing on her love".

Battlers sin being a promise between kids always reminded me of the conclusion to Watanagashi. A lot of people were able to take Mions stated motive at face value, but to me it felt lacking. I think Battler having a child with his aunt and abandoning it makes for a much stronger motive for murder (plus it's something Beatrice brought up at the end of episode 4 when Battler failed her trial). I want to reject Rosatrice because it's full of contradictions from a thematic standpoint, but the reasoning for her being as plausible a culprit as Yasu is solid.
And here's what I think her motives are: To make Battler experience fear, to take revenge on him for abandoning her and for the sake of pleasure that would bring her. The illusion of the witch exists to burry that truth absolutely, which is what Maria made a contract with Lambdadelta to accomplish. This is what Battler realizes at the end of game 6, and the reason he is able to forgive her so easily. She's just an idiot who tried to protect her mother from having to face the consequences of her actions and got her whole family killed as a result.

Lastly, what is the purpose of Beatrices game in this scenario?
She wants to create a scenario where Battler will be find the truth, but still accept her mother. That scenario doesn't exist, at least in the real world, so she is doomed to fail from the get-go. And so, when Meta-Battler does find out the truth that Beatrice is already dead. The message-bottles really were written by Maria, in the hope that someone else would be able to understand the truth without hating the culprit, a wish that was granted by Willard and Aurora. Aurora figured out the truth and obscured it according to her wishes, and Willard was able to understand the culprit.

This scenario certainly gives a different meaning to chick-Beatrice insisting that she was born for her fathers sake and not having any romantic feeling for him. And Battler unknowingly walks in his grandfathers footsteps, falls in love with his own daughter without knowing it and ends up marrying her.

Poetry!

There's nothing weird about a scat fetish. It's not about the shit itself, that's disgusting. It's about the humiliation. The idea of a super cute kawaii anime girl having to take a shit just like every other human is simply mindblowing. She's so cute that you can barely imagine it, but she obviously does it. It's fascinating, unbelievable, almost magical. It stops being disgusting and becomes an extremely lewd thing that defies the concept of human dignity.

By the way, there's still a bit of circumstantial patchwork needed to tie all of this together into a theory that's even remotely cohesive.

First off: One key requirement for becoming Beatrice is solving the Epitaph. Maria is good at riddles and she has a lot of time on her hands, so that much is plausible to me (I know it sounds ludicrous if you think she's just an autistic kid, but I think I've made a decent argument for looking at her character differently). However, I'd say this only makes sense from a narrative standpoint if Maria doesn't keep the gold for herself. She tells her Mother, thinking that if she doesn't have to worry about money she will have more time for her. But that doesn't solve Rosas real problems. She wants more out of life than to take care of her daughter, and now that she is secretly successful the fact that her family doesn't respect her stings even more (and she doesn't want to just come out and say that she found the gold (when the one who really did wasn't her at all!) Her pride makes her want to be acknowledged for her own accomplishments). In addition, the fact that she doesn't spend time with her daughter even though there is nothing standing in her way but herself drives her further into self-hatred and insanity. So Maria doesn't activate the bomb, but she knows that her mother probably did (though she might still make herself believe in a miracle against all odds).

Secondly, if Maria believes that she is modern-day Jesus, her motive for taking on her families sins is the same as Hanyuu playing out the role of a demon so she can take on the sins of the human world. This theme synergizes neatly with Beatrices references to biblical themes and the role she plays for Kanon and Shannon as a kind of miracle-working deiety.
Even if they are not the culprit, you can't ignore the thematic focus on their struggle to find love. Any theory that completely ignores the furniture theme should probably disregarded on narrative grounds. So maybe it could be reinterpreted like this:

Krauss, being in a tight spot financially and wanting to hide it not just from his relatives but also from his own family out of shame for his own shortcomings, makes one of his servants dress up as two different people, making sure to never have "both of them" present at the mansion at the same time except for the time of the family conference. The fact that Shannon and Kanon are the same person is only known to him, Genji and perhaps Kumasawa.
Maria sees through their disguise at one of the family conferences, and gives Shannon a butterfly brooch and instructions on how to bring about a miracle for herself. Note that Maria gives Battler and Jessica the Scorpion charms in episode one, and that her magical description mentions that she is good at enchanting talismans.
At a later point Jessica falls in love with Kanon and things get complicated for our poor servant. Maria then takes on the role of a bad witch to give them someone else to direct their anger toward, and to give them a reason to chose and move forward.
Kanon and Shannons role as furniture can also be interpreted in the sense that she relies on them extensively to cover for Rosa. They serve as the big barrier, the final theory people generally arrive at and are satisfied by, protecting the truth from being discovered by those who have no love for the culprit.

Lastly, what do you think the whole deal with Marias rose was? Just an autistic kid getting too attached to a flower? I think there's a pretty clear metaphorical reading to those scenes, and that's what she's trying to draw peoples (or more specifically Battlers) attention to.

... okay, I'm done for now.

>>16873185
I understand that ship has sailed, but I've never seen this kind of explanation for who Beatrice is before. People usually just assume that it's the culprit hiding behind a witch persona. The story takes on a different quality if you go with "Beatrice is trying to protect someone she loves" instead.

Of course a Yasutrice is fine too.

Well... maybe, just maybe they played the antagonists to allow Battler and Beato to understand eachother, give Ange an enemy other than her family, even if it was obviously fantasy, which allowed her to transform them into a memory without making them destroy eachother, and destroyed the golden land to make her move on from the past. Maybe Ange only overcame red truth because Bern confronted her with the most unacceptable one she had at her disposal. I mean, it's still pretty far-fetched, but Beato played her role almost perfectly as well. I like evil Bernkastel though.

>Speaking of witches, what the fuck are Bern and Lambda?
Literally or symbolically?
Literally, they are actual witches, metaphysical beings that travel kakeras to play games with our world for their amusement.
Symbolically, they're called 'Voyager Witches' which is simply a 'reader' that goes through many stories. This is why in the City of Books, a kakera is considered to be a book. Witches are you, but Bernkastel and Lambda can interact with the story itself. However, because they are outsiders, they must establish themselves as literary devices that affect the story. Bernkastel represents the mystery fans outside the story trying to solve the mystery on the Island. Lambda represents the cause and effect that sets up the board (as she did with Higurashi) and Beatrice represents the rules of the game.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lambda again sets up a new catbox as well as picking the next culprit. However, Ryukishi said he found that people understood the rules and limits of the catbox within a closed setting, so perhaps it might be different in the next game.

Finally got around to reading Higurashi's visual novel and holy fuck is it ten million times better than the anime. Tomitake is actually pretty fleshed out and you get a lot more attached to him. Also, instead of just Rena and Mion being suspicious literally EVERYONE seems suspicious and it becomes even more of a clusterfuck trying to figure out who is suspicious and who isn't. (of course I already know answer, but I imagine I'd be twice as confused if I was experiencing it for the first time)

I noticed a hint (?), the villagers call Oishii the "messenger of oyashiro-sama" since whenever he shows up in Hinamizawa the curse strikes. They also represents concepts: Bern the concept of miracles (the one chance in one billion, winning the lottery), and Lambda the concept of certainty (hard work and guts).

They wage opposite concepts, because winning the lottery and assuring your success with hard work are two inherently opposed ways to succeed. Bern's miracles are rare and random, but Lambda's certainty is fickle, and when you have both witches against you, the probability of succeeding is nil.

I love RGD atmoshpere and its kinda fun and relaxing to read it. But I have some gripes with it

>pick what place to go choice section
I understand its difficult to arrange their events in the RGD, because they can pretty much all be done in any order, so hey why not give a player a choice? Except I will have to go through all of them anyways.
VNs like this that are about mood I mostly read lying on bed because it doesn't hold me on the edge of my seat 99% of time. I am fine with mini games, but this just makes me annoying having to get up everytime to pick a choice, that could have been made linear anyways.
>Ryukishi making whores care about their pride
I could not understand this, the whole EP 1 is about their "dignity", I know he would like to pretend they are more than that and that the whole story is about everyone in the club having the time of their youth, but he can't appreciate "ladies of the evening" for what they are.
I was thinking it was because making them whores would be dehumanizing, but he chose the damn story theme himself. Yes ,they breathe, eat, sleep just like all humans. But what makes them qualify as humans more than say Yasu? I believe that what separates human from animal is that they have values. And they have not sold those values in order to eat.
I may sound like I give too much of shit, but I can't take Ryukishi serious at times when he tries to make a point about a whores dignity.

>translation
I know this isn't Ryukishi's fault, but rather that of the Witch Hunt. I appreciate their time and effort to translate it,am thankful for it, but compared to Umineko, this was miles worse. Its full of misspelling errors, and sometimes it makes me wonder if its machine translated.

Choice selection doesn't matter. It's more of a 'pick which side story you want to read first' type. It doesn't change the plot.

>I could not understand this, the whole EP 1 is about their "dignity",
It's weird because Ryukishi somewhat tiptoes on what are ladies of the evening. In Japan, they're more comfort girls that talk to you while you get drunk and that's all there is. But it's obvious as well that some are prostitutes, yet Ryukishi doesn't outright say it except when some 'bad people' want to call them shit. And it's weird because prostitutes do make a lot of money during war time occupation but he doesn't want to say the word for some reason.

I understand it that the one who has a way to say no to his urges and puts his values first is someone different from animal. Take for example Rose Haibara. She is certainly human. She disapproves favouritism, cares for everybody all the same, gives herself for the good of her fellow human, and above all, gets over her own existence for the greater cause.
That would make her human in my book.

I would also want you to consider this.
An animal only cares for the following:
Survival (at any cost)
Care only for its own kin
Its own pleasure

It may be very disfugured way of thinking about it, but the way I think of it, those that you would say are "human", probably tick all of the boxes of an animal for me.
I know "human" is just an animal after all, and in real world there are humans, but I believe it isn't a title to be given anyone that can speak non-gibberish.

So by my understanding going from your Rose Haibaras description, what a human in your eyes is someone who

- values equality
- tries to advance the wellbeing of their collective (fellow human/greater cause), even at their own expense.

Something like that?
I might be biased since I am surrounded by animals every day by your definition, but to me what you merely described is a "selfless" person. As far as I've seen there's not that many 'humans' around. The people I've talked to realize that once they die, that's it, so instead of trying to improve the world that will be after they die, they try to enjoy their life before they die. Which seems perfectly fine to me.

If you tell me that I have to sacrifice my wellbeing for some sort of an abstract idea of greater good, I'd refuse. It's like the crabs in the bucket analogy, but the bucket the crabs are in is inside another bigger bucket and the bigger bucket is inside another bigger bucket and to infinity. There's no point in getting out of the bucket, so you might as well struggle to improve your own wellbeing.

That's just the 100 year old Rika that has been hoping from kakera to kakera. Rika felt that living for 100 years made her different from the original Rika at the start, thus called herself Furuderica Bernkastel. But at the end of Rei, she left that name to accept being Rika rather than a hopping witch. By creating this distinction, it gave a personality to the negative memories Hanyuu had been collection. At the end of Rei, Hanyuu says that she has a new friend, and that's likely the Bernkastel we know.
But after being given a name, Bernkastel felt betrayed that she couldn't have a happy end like Rika and broke free of Hanyuu to bring an end to miracles everywhere.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2KbybRxJLQ

Bernkastel knows this and it's why she accepts people like me hating her, and wants someone to end her suffering. Just imagine her crying, with a smile on her face as you strangle her. That's how I see Bernkastel.

Yes, that is how I understand it.

>what you merely described is a "selfless" person.
And yes, that is but a part of thing that for me constitutes a human, there are others as well such as love for technological progress, solidarity, making your existence contribute to the world in some way too. I would say virtues make a man.
I believe that 1000 of years ago there were even less humans, coming to this day and age there are more of them. In future there will be even more of them. Eventually (here's a hoping to), machines may replace us. You won't need to fight for the bread you will eat tomorrow.
Human will separate more and more from the animal. This will not however happen in many lifetimes. It is what would be like fully evolving.
Not sure about chronology, but I believe Homo sapiens existed in the same world, at the same time as Neanderthal. Its not like Neanderthal was replaced at the same time Homo sapiens arrived, but rather gradually.
This conversation now reminds me of Newtypes from Gundam if you are familiar with series.

I am aware I myself may not be the kind of "full" human I want to be, but I am giving it my all to live up to expectations I set for myself.

Don't confuse this with some holier than thou attitude though, I may have said whores, but I appreciate them for what they are, I won't judge someone that obtains what he wants through the means he chooses, acts the way he does or values different things than I do. It is that persons life, and that persons story.
I just don't want to see something be made out to be more than it really is that's all.

I almost always end up looking for minor spoilers to confirm or reassure myself about things.

Kinda like an autistic Ange, I do also follow a work to the end hoping that an unfavorable spoiler was conveyed or interpreted wrongly and that it was truly something else.
That and finding out the circumstances that led up to something can be fun too.

But in true I am probably just not going to ever get started on Higurashi despite being praised at the best work even though I really really love Umineko and both Higanbana & RGDs are amazing.

Oh, you'll get them. The villains are what make Rose Guns Days so good.
Two characters are some of the best villains Ryukishi has ever made.

>I have never been entitled fuck as these guys, and I don't understand where does it come from?
You don't understand. The Japanese people went to war, almost lose everything for their country. They came back and literally everything changed. Everything Japanese turned America or Chinese. And all their women don't want anything to do with them because they want money. (Asian woman are notoriously materialistic and needy. Great at sex but will destroy your wallet). It's not ''no different from any country that has been destroyed by war'' because at least when a war is over, you come back to rebuild what was destroyed. These Japanese people lost everything and don't have the means to take control of their country because it's under the influence and control of the Americans and Chinese.

You'll understand, keep reading.
A lot of RGD feels weird until you get deep into the story and really get what Ryukishi is saying about nationalism and culture.

>> No.16883128

>>16883024
I understand what Ryukishi was getting at, and feel sympathy with the Japanese in the story.
But I simply don't believe a war veteran would be that hung up on war.
I know that they received nothing by fighting that war so they are trying to gain something for their pains and that no job or low wages are driving them to the point of suicide. But I don't believe those same war veterans would not band together and help each other out in times of need, instead of everybody just looking out for their own survival. It seems very wrong for a Japanese person not to offer another Japanese person a contract/job/offer knowing that they have to stick together to make it.
RGD makes it feel like in just a span of few years the Japanese spirit changed so much to the point that everyone is alienated from each other.
And from what I understand, in 1947 Japanese are still the overwhelming population of Japanese nation. Reasonably so. The war and disaster couldn't have killed of more than 30% of Japanese men, which counted for 15% of total population since women don't go to war. The disaster, famine and food shortages couldn't have killed more than 20% of those that stayed in Japan.
In 1944 the population of Japan was around 50 million. 65% percent remaing of that is still a wicked number, but you've got 33 million Japanese still on the main islands.
I doubt that in 2 years time Chinese and Americans could overfill the country to the point that could overweight Japanese numbers. And with enough numbers, the Japanese simply couldn't have been thrown around like they were in RGD.
If I am wrong, correct me, but its either poor logic by me or Ryukishi.

They banned together under Caleb, but there's just nothing else to do. They can either join him, work for the American or Chinese army or do low paying menial jobs that are in limited supply.

>RGD makes it feel like in just a span of few years the Japanese spirit changed so much to the point that everyone is alienated from each other.
They didn't really alienated each other, it just broke their spirit, as it did in our world at the end of WW2, except to less extremes.

>in 1947 Japanese are still the overwhelming population of Japanese nation.
No. The American and Chinese people threw a very large amount of immigrants to build and settle. They have the number, but they lack governmental authority to do anything.

>I doubt that in 2 years time Chinese and Americans could overfill the country to the point that could overweight Japanese numbers. And with enough numbers, the Japanese simply couldn't have been thrown around like they were in RGD.

Even though he lacks any authority, the very number that Caleb united, should've been enough to put pressure on even the Americans to back off a bit. At the very least out of those 33 million, I think he could've gotten atleast 10 thousand members willing to make mess on streets.
GHQ didn't want that in city 23. I would also say that they would cave in to his demands to get access to jobs contractor position. At the very least Japanese could riot with the number, and get their wages to not be a misery.
