I've played a bunch of MMO's, starting with UO (two I have NOT played are EQ and WoW). FFXI was good for a while, but I gave up on it because of how it pretty much requires you to commit to several hours of uninterrupted playtime in order to accomplish anything. I kept my account active for a long time telling myself I'd go back to it once I had the time, but it never happened. So I finally canceled when I started playing Mabinogi (which was fun and original for a while, but I got sick of the highly lag-vulnerable combat system and grinding proficiency).

Currently playing Atlantica after someone mentioned it in passing in an MMO thread a month or so back. Not sure what made me decide to look it up, maybe it was the "turn-based combat" mention. But I'm having more fun with it than I have with any MMO in a long time, despite its flaws

I guess I just can't stand grinds. The only reason why I like MMOs is that "MMO" usually implies "huge explorable world", and that's something I look for in games. But once you've seen the place it gets boring really fast (The best thing about WoW was that they had only one revision of the world and a trickjump bug, so you could visit all the unfinished zones that the devs were working on at the moment if you knew how. *THAT* was exciting, to find something that very few people have seen before)

What I can't figure out is how people find most MMO combat in any way interesting.

You can sum up 90% of MMO combat as two 3D models doing "attack" animations while numbers fly off their heads. Shit sucks.

I played the Japanese version for a couple months and it is essentially mabinogi but much more refined.
Ex. in mabinogi there is 'counter', in Imagine there are many different counter stances which do status effects or more damage.
The basics are two types of attacks and def for melee: attack, rush and def, counter.
gun: shot and rapidfire
magic: restore, damage, debuff, buff.

and a bunch of support skills.

I played a gun / damage / debuff mage (you shouldn't combine them, better to be one) and I spent most of my time using rapid fire gun shots and tossing the magic coin items.

pet ends up being much better then you.

this is like rps-25. Plus you have to simultaneously control a pet that has nearly as many skills as you do.

The problem is how slow they're working on the game. The class I play has almost 2 dozen bugs (half a dozen of which are ability breaking.)
Besides that balance is really slanted towards the wizard/archer/etc ranged damage people, so all the pvp ends up with the two sides staring at each other at max range and if you step inside you get obliterated, even as a tank.

Right now, just playing Pangya, S4, and Chusen Online.

Used to play GE, until I got banned due to faggot guild leader. But it was probably my favorite MMO thanks to being able to AFK grind, good music, and the game itself is pretty.

Stopped playing mabinogi after I got 500~ levels and realized it was all a waste of time because of the shitty community and roughly $25 a month.

Attacks - normal combos, Rush, spin
Defense - block, Dodge, Counter
Gun differences come out more in the different types of guns.


Then the elements also tend to come in groups of 3, except the fire/ice/lightning/wind group. Otherwise hama/mudo/megido, nerve/mind/magic power, slash/blunt/pierce, pistol/rifle/shotgun, etc

Every single fucking MMO sucks and I still cannot stop spending 3-7 hours a day playing them...

I might actually bother with the SMT MMO for a while. I liked Nocturne, so if it's more or less that but with real-time combat, it sounds good to me.

Are you guys playing Hello Kitty Online as well? Not that much grinding than in other mmorpgs and the pvp system is kind of interesting.

haha so I'm new only one who has never played an MMO? It was due to fees I didn't wanted to pay. Free Games where spare or not existend back then.

So what's with the mentioned Atlantica. Is it free? Or are there any priv servers?
Megaten Online would be fucking awesome, but I can't understand moonspeak, so there is no reason to play ir.
