You can't really judge them by the same standard. It's difficult to quantify exactly how difficulty would translate from one game to the other and it's almost never the same from person to person. How do you translate cursor movement from Osu! into raw density reading from IIDX? There isn't any real way to compare them. Additionally there are other factors from the different games that play big roles in defining difficulty, such as hardware or physical limitations. I've been playing Osu! for over 4 years but I can only stream 180-ish because of the stress it puts on my left hand for only being able to use 2 fingers for it. In LR2 I can probably arguably stream about 220 or perhaps higher depending on note arrangement due to the abundance of fingers I can use, and I've only been playing it for about a year. Same reason low key count vertical scrollers like Stepmania on KB can present their own kind of difficulties.

I guess some people are too autistic to accept that there is such a thing as dynamic difficulty. Also, if the game isn't hard enough for you, you aren't picking hard enough songs. Git gud, etc.

>> No.16180982

>>16180893
Osu has no reading difficulty or technical difficulty though. The only thing that makes hard songs hard is BPM. Other games require reading skill, or technical skill, osu is literally "push this one button faster" or "make this jump bigger". That's the ONLY difficulty determinant.

Reading difficulty, fair enough. I wouldn't say it's 0 but it's certainly nowhere near where most vertical scrollers get. I'm not sure what you're talking about regarding technical difficulty, though. Isn't that kind of inherent due to the reflexes, precision, constitution, etc. needed to both move and stream properly? I thought technical was where a good deal of Osu's difficulty came from in the first place.

I'm a bit vague on the definition of "technical" here, though. Could you give an explanation on what it means, exactly?

The only "difficulty" in osu stems from the fact that you're forced to use two keys.

There's no rhythmic variance, no actual difficulty, it's just mashing ZX to 16th note streams with one hand and making S-shapes with the other. You could go on fucking Youtube, search up Nightcore, smash ZX, and wiggle a pen around and it'd be the same amount of "difficulty."

It's the only rhythm game specifically designed to give you carpal tunnel in both hands.

Osu is a gateway rhythm game of the worst kind. It’s a bad game, a clusterfuck of scoring and gamemodes that isn’t very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in bad ripoff of other games and WEEBSHIT. The normal anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the game itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.

However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The stupid pink mascot trying its hardest to look cute, the anime songs, the fanservicey, colorful themes, the whole tablet faggotry and everything about the Osu community fuels their weeb fantasies, while the open chart editor, emphasis on combos, and overall so called difficulty of the game make it fit just right with the gaymer-kid drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underageb& retards eat this shit right the fuck up.

Osu is basically THE game to attract the most hated rhythm game fanbase known to /jp/, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every anon to troll the fuck out of this game and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Osu threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.

It's based on a Japanese game, what kind of people did you think it was going to attract?
Catch the Beat: original content do not steal.
Taiko: Not trying to hide the fact that it's a clone, but people wanted it, so they got it.
Osu: Again not trying to hide that it's a clone, but it also works quite differently from it's predecessor(s) on the DS. Typically. Unless you play with an extremely small touchscreen and use a stylus.
Osu!mania: Another rhythm game designed for keyboard. If you make one of these, it's a clone in some way, shape or form. Period.

Aside from timing issues which can usually be resolved by using global offset, I'd like to see your justifications for defining them as "bad" games. SDVX is spamming buttons and turning knobs, IIDX is spamming buttons and turning discs, Pop'n is slamming extra spaced buttons, DDR is slamming buttons with your feet, Jubeat is pressing buttons in unique patterns, I can go on and on. Rhythm games tend to have unique styles of input, that doesn't make them bad. It also isn't bad because the community is bad, the community is bad and the game is a game.

Also "the game"(see: peppy/mods)does not decide what maps get ranked, the BATs do. And when the majority of maps that get submitted are weebmaps in a queuing system, you can easily see why there are so many. But "the game" itself does not try to compensate for being "bad" by adding weeb shit. That would imply that the Peppy and the mods were totally in control of it. While technically, yes, they are, generally speaking they do not intervene unless they need to, and they certainly aren't wasting time making their own maps when they could be doing more useful shit that needs doing. This makes this, in practice, community-controlled. And with a weeb-based and -attracting community, what did you expect was going to happen?

A lot of weebshit isn't even that bad, anyway. Any indication to the contrary is just, like, your opinion, man. And possibly elitism.

>However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world

Truth

>The stupid pink mascot trying its hardest to look cute, the anime songs, the fanservicey, colorful themes, the whole tablet faggotry and everything about the Osu community fuels their weeb fantasies, while the open chart editor, emphasis on combos, and overall so called difficulty of the game make it fit just right with the gaymer-kid drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world.

Mostly true, but I will refute a few points.

>The stupid pink mascot trying its hardest to look cute

Subjective based on artist. Again it's community efforts mainly fuel the art drawn of her(art contests, etc). And AGAIN, weeb community. Deal with it.

>the fanservicey, colorful themes

Everyone knows these skins are fucking difficult to read if you're any good at all. You are going to want a decent one at least eventually.

>the whole tablet faggotry
x is cheating.

>emphasis on combos
The problem is that without combo-based scoring the leaderboards don't fucking mean anything. You'll have a top 50 with people trying to spam as many mods and getting the best accuracy they can. Which people already do, but at least now there's some decent deviation for people who aren't top rankers. Basically it's a way to induce extra difficulty in a game that has "so called difficulty." So don't complain about it if the game's so easy.

All this aside, you don't actually have to give a fuck about any of it. If you ignore it, it doesn't effect you in any way.

Gross generalization. Osu has good people, too. It's not fair to tell us we're not allowed to talk about it here just because there's a bunch of shitters out there. Judge by individual, not by group. I'm not to blame just because osu is chocked full of fucking retards.

Honestly this goes for most rhythm games, it's not just Osu. Unless you turn on a mod that shuffles the notes(if applicable)then they are never going to change. Whether it's a horizontal cross-screen jump in Osu or a 1247 chord in IIDX, you'll remember how to do it if you've done it enough.

In fact, you might even argue that learning to play is just a really long string of memories your brain aligns in sequence to hit notes properly, and as such everything is mostly memory and your brain's ability to process it quickly enough.

IIDX is a hard game. But there's only so much you even have to keep track of in a rhythm game (in this case 1. hitting the notes and 2. timing). Playing instruments requires rhythm, yes, but it also requires mastering tone, volume, musicality, vibrato/timbre, and breath control and articulation in the case of wind instruments-- all of which are individually extremely difficult to master but equally important to being a "good" musician.

I'm not saying rhythm games aren't difficult, I'm saying that the set of necessary skills to b good at them can b acquired with enough practice and discipline n that the idea of "an innate talent being extremely important" is bullshitty. You can have an affinity for these skills but...you don't have to b born with a natural talent and a supernatural ear to b good at the DJ simulation game (a hella difficult one but it is what it is!!). It's sorta implying that only Gifted People can ever be kaiden n like isn't that thought super silly n ridiculous?
"Talent" in general is such an overrated concept in my onion

I said starting to play rhythm games early in life wasn't a requirement to b good at them pls read carefully b4 replying thx

Well the skill ceiling is for IIDX is nowhere close to being filled either. There's just nothing stopping the "Hardest physically possible song", after being mastered from being replaced by "The REALLY hardest physically possible song" in a day or two. But if all the Leggendarias are at a state where they are being 100.00%'d easily by hundreds of players then they have only to wait until Konami releases harder songs. But it's not going to happen.

And you mocked even the very comparison to playing a real instrument to playing rhythm games like it was absurd. It's not absurd and they both require an intense level of dedication.

And I do think talent is a large part of it. I think the good IIDX players have this same "talent" that's needed in instruments. I believed that a musically talented person has an inherent advantage in rhythm, games.

And most important of all I believe I am musically gifted and I believe that maybe I have latent rhythm game talent even though I have no sort of musical training or skill

>> No.16184910

>>16184653
Not him but you're exaggerating. You don't need talent to become good in games with high level skill, you just need to like them.

The same goes for instruments. If you like music (like almost everybody) you'll not find difficult to learn guitar for example.

Actual musician here with 10+ years of training. You are absolutely delusional if you believe that becoming a master at an instrument is anything like mastering IIDX. There is a reason that every single violin virtuoso started playing when they were 3 years old and practice for 4 hours every single day where such a level of dedication is unheard of in rhythm games. You cannot lead a normal life with how much dedication it takes to reach the top level of the musical world; it absolutely consumes everything and very few people can actually cut it even with all of this practice. The same cannot be said for IIDX, where enough time playing will guarantee you eventually reach the highest levels of play.

You are correct that inherent musical ability helps with rhythm games though. Took me around a year to reach 6th Dan in IIDX and 3 months to FC 15s and 16s in DDR. That does not mean that you absolutely need talent to play these games at a high level.

>> No.16186334

>>16184653
goshhh. what would make it more difficult than it already is? speed shifts? a higher amount of notes? more erratic patterns?

like yes, you could come up with the Most Difficult Song Ever on a Rhythm Game and I'm p sure if you put enough dedication and time into passing it, you would. for the umpteenth time, musical abilities are of great help for these things, but they're not mandatory. they may give you an advantage over Not Musically Gifted Mortals but anyone can b good at the games if they like them enough and have enough time and patience to git gud.

i'm sorry you felt somewhat offended (?) by my posts mocking yr comparison, but it really is absurd. see >>16183865's & >>16186144's posts, they're different things after all. it's cool that you feel you have a knack for music and that gives you the upper hand at rhythm games, good 4 you! but like... if people are attracted to music games it must b because they already feel an affinity towards music, no?

i've read that kbm is considered "the hardest rhythm game" but ppl who have learned 2 actually play the piano say it just doesn't compare lol. besides... you don't play an instrument, maybe try playing one 1st?

You know that attitude is also what scares new players away, too, right? And rhythm games are already pretty niche. You've gotta deal with noobs being noobs sometimes. Although I agree that if they aren't going to play anything, there isn't much point aside from maybe downloading OSTs or some other misc. stuff. But really, who cares as long as people aren't streaming things publicly or some dumb shit like that. The sekrit club is about as safe as we can hope for if we have none of that, perhaps barring any potential konami shills.

>And so what if can't connect to eAmuse? It's your machine. Connect it to ealocalserver if you want.

that's the point, ealocalserver isn't -supposed- to exist. it's a hack. a workaround, developed for piracy.

and yes, there are essentially no cabinets that are still left on spada, pendual, copula. there are obviously some cabs running really old offline versions, like that one nipland arcade that puts in random ancient mixes like substream in their cab for fun. but if an arcade operator owns a cabinet running a recent version, they will certainly have updated it. there's no reason not to.

Interesting. You were AAAing 10s? How long have you been playing? I've been playing well over a year now and I've never got even a single AAA on even a 3 or 4.

Then again, I have cleared most of the 11s in the game. Goes to show the vast difference between the concepts of playing for scoring first and playing for clearing first.

DJ DARQS commented in one of his videos that he and his friend followed each of these and up until a point they were pretty even, but DARQS (playing for clearing) soon pulled ahead leaving his friend behind.

Maybe you're being held back by your deeply ingrained need to score well. You're giving too much attention to each note and not just trying to scrape by with a Great or Good.

I don't know though. Could just be you simply don't have the time. the 11 wall is a hell of a nightmare and requires a lot of dedication to overcome.

Boy am I rambling. I'm too tired.

>Clear X [a]

I'm guessing that's fatigue. How do people play for 4+ hours?

>> No.16202898

>>16202819
Over time your stamina will increase. However, since you'll also be playing harder stuff over time you'll constantly be testing your stamina. You're better off that accepting that you'll get fatigued after a while of playing anything within your range, rhythm games are often this way.

The people playing for 4+ hours are probably not playing things that are too difficult for them. I could play 9's for 4 hours without any real problems, but once I step into 11's I'll be done after an hour or so. That's from not yet playing at all that day. Don't overdo it, if your hands are starting to get too fatigued, take a break. That's how you get Carpal Tunnel or RSI.

>> No.16202906

>>16202898
Addendum: A good strategy is to switch off playing for scoring and for density. When you start getting tired, try going for some HCs or AA/AAA's on something a bit easier for a while. Or some Random/shuffle/whatever the fug it's called in IIDX.

Those guys have insane stamina. Most people are not like FEFEMZ, Dolce, and Tatsu who can play the hardest songs in their games for hours on end. I usually do my sets where the first song is the hardest, second song is the easiest, and third song is in the middle. Don't go all out playing difficult songs consecutively otherwise you'll burn out really quick.
