15788467 No.15788467 [Reply] [Original]

I've put together something that you all might be interested in. It's a complete and nicely organized collection of sprites and images from every mainline Touhou game, plus the non-Tasofro decimals, for your creative image-editing pleasure.

For the Windows games, I glued together or split some of the images, whichever was more appropriate, to make them easier to browse, and renamed all of them according to a standard naming scheme. For the PC-98 games, I converted all the bizarre formats to PNGs, but preserved the original filenames. In any case, everything is organized into folders by game, then by type of resource, which should make anything easy to find.

This took a surprisingly long time to complete, especially the PC-98 sprites, so I hope someone gets some use out of it. Enjoy!

Thanks, this is good stuff.

It's interesting how the background images are mostly just 512x512 or smaller images, which he must overlap somehow. They look pretty good in game for how small they are.

Yeah, I was surprised too, especially considering how other resources have been scaled up in recent games. But they are heavily blended, and often distorted as well. Obviously DirectX takes care of smoothing them out enough to look good.

>>15789411
The PC-98 sprites are in a weird hodgepodge of old formats, and basically, it would be impossible to write one tool to convert them automatically. A lot of them need human judgement on a case-by-case basis. Because there's no easy way to batch rip them, it's not surprising that they're not as readily available.

Not so much 'a pain' as 'completely beyond me'. Tasofro's data files are apparently purposely obfuscated, and I would have no clue where to even start with decrypting them. Sorry. If I can someday get my hands on the raw ANM files, they'll get the same treatment. Until then, you can find at least some of them on MotK and such.

Yea ULiL they intentionally made janky as fuck as they didn't want them damn dirty gaijins trying to translate this from the perfection of Japanese.

I mean why do you think they went with vertical textboxes for HM and ULiL? It was trying to prevent translation patches. Of course with HM they outsmarted em and did some more advanced hacking to get horizontal textboxes.

If they were smart at all they would have included an English text mode but the Touhouvania people seemed to be the only people to think ahead that way.

One minor complaint: The files for the recent games aren't cropped so while the portrait itself is transparent png there is still a big chunk of white but that I can easily do myself. Thank you anon.

The padding is there to align the images when compositing; if you line up the upper-left corners, the faces will be in the correct place on their respective bodies. In-game, of course, the white part is masked out. Now that you mention it, It would have saved some trouble to just make the padding transparent, but that didn't occur to me at the time. Sorry.
