Lol wut? Look at the sales numbers. AKB is not selling more CDs today than it did during the Beginner era, and the numbers are a LOT lower than during the 2011~2012 era.

To put it in perspective, back then they didn't even have team 4 and 8, Sayamilky were just about to be included in AKB senbatsu for the first time ever, and HKT didn't even exist. The fact that they were able to sell as many CDs back then as they do now, with today's numbers being buffed by 8 and all the other sister groups, is very telling in itself.

There won't be any reason to disband any of the sister groups. The model has been perfected to the point where it works for both "underground" idols and completely mainstream idols. The only thing that will certainly disband is Team 8 once the idol bubble pops, because Toyota really has no reason to continue with it when it's obviously not their forté nor their most profitable area, like they dropped the Scion project when it stopped being viable. Other than that, the number of members will decrease and I can't see AKB having 4 teams, or any of the sister groups having 3, and it will stop being this big money-making machine and turn into a smaller and less notorious but still profitable venture.
