Well, some people here are anal enough to disqualify 90% of what is played at the big denpa events like Denpa Hakkyun and Denpa Song Daisensou as "denpa song". This kind of disagrees with how the term is used in Japan today. Cue endless definition wars.

Oldfags like me have no problem with a broader definition, since I can see a clear lineage from some of this stuff back to the 80's and the Nagom Records/Captain Records era and acts like Zin-Say!, Karate Bakabon, Minca Panopica and so on. And even back then there was a division between the more deranged stuff (Kinniku Shoujotai etc.) and the "moepop" stuff (Kidorikko etc.).

I have no idea if DS or whoever does group orders anymore, but generally the more popular albums (like the ones I have) tend to be resold on either tora no ana, melonbooks, amazon japan etc. This time around, I had a friend who went to comiket and bought them for me.

If you are considering the proxy route, you can use proxy services like Goody Japan(cheapest I know so far), and tenso. Though I have tried to get stuff from melonbooks via tenso, and apparently melonbooks does not "ship international" even if it means its going to a proxy seller within japan. I simply tried a lesser known proxy, and I ended up getting the item from melonbooks anyway.

For Amazon japan, just make an account (yes,a seperate amazon account just for amazon japan). The website has an english option if you can't into moonspeak. I think you can pick up nanahira's candy time on amazon japan, but keep in mind not all items are shippable to the states.

Check a circle's websites (twitter, soundcloud etc) and see if they have a store. If its Iosys stuff, I just e-mail them directly. They understand english, and accept paypal for purchases.

There's an oversaturation of a very specific kind of "denpa" style that's been getting more and more popular over the past couple years.

I mean I like nanahira as much as the next guy, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't getting tired of seeing her everywhere along with the typical wink-wink nod-nod hyper moepop+popular EDM thing that everyone keeps doing.

I haven't seriously listened to denpa in maybe a year now. When I do I keep returning to the same core artists, like momoi or mosaic or a bit of ARM. I think that's where I really understand what trudenpafags keep arguing about with regards to what "denpa" means. On some level it really is a "feeling" to the music. That weird spacey feeling, like being suspended or something despite all the energy and zaniness happening. Or maybe that weird nostalgic feeling for old, forgotten eroge music that really isn't good on any technical level but is really touching despite (or perhaps because of) that.

Anyway, forgive me for blogposting. I've just been what you're going through and so I recommend you listen to the classics and maybe try to rediscover them. >I think a lot of recent artists are forgetting this and just trying to make it as "crazy-cutesy" sounding as possible. It comes off as a little shallow and generic.
Honestly this is such a common occurrence for anything that becomes popular enough that I'm surprised it hasn't happened to denpa sooner.

I've only been listening to it for a little over a year now, so I don't know if some of you are more experienced with it and would argue that it's already happened years ago or not.
But I've easily downloaded more denpa music than probably all the music I've ever owned of any genre, and I still don't really get that feeling of artists "selling out" or producing generic content nearly as much as I would get with other music genres.
So even if it's losing sight of itself, am I wrong to be impressed with how well it's held up?

But then again, maybe a lot of that has to do with it not technically being a genre of its own and so over the years things would only get labelled "denpa" by the fans?
Maybe the real issue then is that artists are starting to think they can label their own music as "denpa" rather than letting it just be a decision from the listeners. Maybe there was never supposed to be "denpa albums".

There's not going to be much "selling out" with denpa since it's destined to stay niche by its very nature.

Trudenpa has always been pretty small. A lot of particularly sugary moedenpa has been released recently, which lends to the perception that the scene is being taken over by it.

Toromi is still releasing albums, so I'm satisfied.

It's been happening to denpa for years now, but "denpa" as a thing hasn't been a "thing" for all that long. It's comes out of anime and eroge and doujin music that just happened to be "denpa" in feel and/or theme.

To clarify it's not like nanahira is "selling out" or anything, she's just commanding what I feel to be a disproportionate share of the music scene because of its increase in popularity which is largely relegated to a very specific, very accessible moepop styling. She's not the first and she's not the last to do this and I don't hate her at all for doing it. I quite like her music. Rather, I'm just wary of how the door is now open for certain artists to hop on it. Some treat it like some kind of gimmick. Like this "wow so cute" ironic lolicon EDM styling (I'm looking at you teamdmp). Like, I get it, it sounds like some kind of Skrillex-esque dubstep but now with cute lolivoices, great. Or super "brutal" metal with lolivoices, original. Some artists would do the odd song or two in that contrasting style for effect, that's fine. Some artists think it's a good idea to make that their entire sound. Feels like beating a dead horse. Slap on a moe-loli-holding-candy cover, label it "denpa," and people will buy it regardless, I guess.

>So even if it's losing sight of itself, am I wrong to be impressed with how well it's held up?
I don't really think it's losing sight of itself. It's just hit a point of popularity where some people are trying to milk it a bit. The core players are still doing their thing like they always have. If there's a thing to parallel it to maybe it's like how some 2hu artists jumped to kancolle, or how so many people get into that shit cause it's hilarious internet memes and sexy cosplay, but don't really care about the lore or games or anything.

Eventually, the people who aren't in it for the long run will leave, and the disingenuous players will jump to whatever's the popular thing. But I know for a fact there are some really consistent artists making the music they've always been making that just happened to be labeled "denpa" now, so yeah, like I said, try to discover or rediscover or something.

>Maybe there was never supposed to be "denpa albums".
I get the impression that a lot of old "denpa" artists rarely called their music "denpa." It's stuff like "moesong" or "akiba-pop" or "akiba-kei" or anison stylings or whatever. I know ARM calls his stuff denpa now, but he probably wasn't making that with intent at the start. I would say it was never intended, least of all to be a genre, it just happened. And so when people are intentionally making "denpa" as a genre they're probably missing the point somewhat and why some people aren't feeling it anymore.

>> No.14586791

>>14586613
Plenty of mosaic songs aren't "moe" themed. They call themselves "akiba-pop." So moe plays a big role, sure, but there's other stuff in there too like super-robot stories, computers, space stuff, battle music, otaku-centric skits, whatever. In general, it seems mosaic is much more varied and nuanced than nanahira's stuff in both production and thematic content. They've been doing it longer too, so they have more music under their belt.

>but the majority has the same feeling as any other moepop artist
I guess that's just where our opinions differ, then. Mosaic continues to hit a sweet spot for me with all of their material that most moepop artists simply don't. It's not just being energetic and "moe" and over-the-top and occasionally weird. It's just "electric" somehow. "Akiba-pop" is probably the most apt description of what they make.

As for the thematic content and stuff. It's clearly more broad. Aside from some of the moe-themed songs, I'm not sure where you feel the similarity. Mosaic sounds quite different from something like Maple Sugar or ave;new or nanahira, all of which I would categorize as denpa-kei moepop with varying degrees of "denpa"-ness.

Not that this matters much to me, but I think you're doing yourself and others a disservice by limiting 10 years of mosaic music to "moepop," the current taboo-term for denpa people don't like in these threads.

He probably meant that different composers and arrangers made various tracks with her, most of her music could be called trudenpa but not all.

Also, someone asked earlier if she released something in this comiket: I am not awared of it, but she has a track on Picolony nauts 2, it's pretty good
