The first time I saw her, she was hollow.

Just a doll, left in a corner, to wait out its existence. Unaware of her surroundings, oblivious to the passage of time.

The frame of a woman, but none of the life. A replication, not of a typical human female, but of an idealized form.

Her body was covered with a smooth, plastic skin, and covered again with a clean blue and white dress uniform of some sort. Her hair was carefully implanted, straightened, and arranged to give her an animeish look, to match that of her uniform and body.

At the time, I only had fleeting thoughts about it. Life sized dolls weren't common, but it was none of my business. I was just passing by. No need to involve myself with such things. No reason to question whose it was, or why it was there.

But such things always seemed to find a way to involve me in their business.

The next time I saw her, she was shy.

It was a few days later, and there she was, peering at me from behind a corner.

The uniform was the same, at least. Her hair seemed different somehow, but I hadn't gotten a good look at it last time. Same with her face.

It was possible she wasn't the doll I had spotted that time ago, but the dress was identical.

Though the most compelling evidence that she was not the same doll was that this one was moving around, and clearly peering at me.

Still, she was staring quite intently at me, and me specifically, so I approached.

And she vanished.

Well, to be precise she disappeared around the corner, and when I turned at that corner she was nowhere to be found.

This time, I couldn't just think nothing of it. Was I being followed? Could that really have been the same doll I saw before?

Still, though I had these thoughts, I could not do anything about them. I was at a disadvantage here, not knowing enough to even begin to formulate a next move.

The only thing I could do was be more observant, and wait for our next encounter.

When I saw her again, she was absorbed.

I don't think she even noticed I was there this time. Her attention was completely focused on the little gaming device in her hands.

It reminded me of our first meeting, but instead of being oblivious to everything, she was instead living in her own little world, a world of constructed thrills and arranged risk, as plastic and fake as she was.

A slight, tinny tune emitted from the tiny device, as her hands tightened and relaxed about it. She herself never made a sound, nor did her face ever change expression. Though these may simply have been inabilities on her part. She was clearly emotionally involved in the game though, as her arms brought it closer to her face during what I assumed where stressful times, and relaxed during respites.

I can't really say why, but I felt attracted to her somehow. It might have been the lingering questions from earlier, or perhaps it was the parallels on display. A manufactured being playing at a manufactured existence. It felt right.

Then, suddenly, she clicked a switch at the bottom, lowered the device, and shot a glance straight at me, as if she had known I was staring at her this whole time.

When she saw me, I was a bit startled.

I had expected this to be another chance meeting, but that I would have made the first move, to get things going.

But instead, she started to walk towards me, saying nothing.

"Er," I stumbled.

She was right in front of me now, and staring straight at me.

I tried my best to look through or around her.

"Uh," I continued to stumble.

She continued to look upon me, and seemed to be disappointed with my reactions.

I decided to straighten up a bit. I was going to make the first move earlier, right? So I should just go with that.

"Who are you?" I asked.

She pulled out her little gaming device again, flicked it on, and stared at it for a bit, moving her thumbs across and onto the buttons here and there, until she seemed satisfied, and showed me the result.

The result was a single word.

When I saw the word, I understood.

It was a single, four letter word, but it seemed to fit her perfectly.

Fake.

She handed the handheld to me, and I examined it. Viewing the top of the game slot, there was no game inside. Moving through the interface only revealed the firmware with a simple notepad program, and nothing else.

She had never been playing a game. She had been playacting the whole time. Pretending to be caught in the highs and lows of a manufactured experience. Fake layered upon fake.

She was fake.

I looked up to confront her.

She wasn't there.

When I saw she was gone, I began to panic.

I spun around, looking at the people, places, and things around me.

She was nowhere to be found. Everyone was just milling about, minding their own business, as if there hadn't been a living, life sized doll here mere moments ago.

Had I dreamt her? Had all our interactions to this point been simply my imagination?

The device was still in my hands, though. That was real.

She gave it to me, right? That meant some part of her was real. Unless this was my portable, and I was caught in some sort of delusion about it.

I looked it over. No stickers, no identifying marks, nothing. The same way I kept my own things. The internal memory had never been used, though, or perhaps it had been wiped.

Then I remembered something. I turned it over, and removed the battery. And there it was. A distinctive scratch mark, from when I had fumbled with the battery when I first got it. This was my portable.

I walked home. There seemed to be nothing else to do.

When I saw her there, I was compelled to ignore her.

"You're not real," I said.

She just stared blankly back at me.

"You're not real," I repeated.

She sort of shrugged, and continued to look at me.

She appeared to be in the house, but that didn't make sense. If she were real, how would she even have access to my place? I was just imagining this whole thing.

So I ignored her, and tried to do other things.

I sat down on my couch, flicked on the TV, and looked for something to watch.

She sat down next to me, and continued to stare.

I tried my hardest not to notice, and tried instead to pay attention to the sports highlights, or the news, or the dramas, or the sitcoms.

Her gaze pierced through them all. I couldn't focus on them. Not while she seemed to be there.

"You're not real," I said to her again. I was probably trying to convince myself more than her. Well, that only made sense. You can't convince a figment of your own imagination of anything.

But she maintained her presence now. She didn't vanish, or leave, or even exit my view.

And then, something happened.

I felt her hand on mine. I felt the softness of her dollskin, its smoothness as it slowly caressed my hand, its firmness as it tensed and squeezed my hand.

So what if she wasn't real. I might as well enjoy my own delusions.

When she touched me again, I no longer cared about reality.

She stood, and softly slid across the carpet to face me, her eyes staring but soft, her face still frozen in a slight plastic grin. She continued to slide towards me, her left hand gently touching my shoulder, her right ascending, softly brushing against my face. The dollskin wrapping her right hand felt impossibly smooth, frictionless like a cube of ice, yet warm like a blanket fresh from the dryer.

It didn't matter that she wasn't real. It didn't matter that she wasn't a person. All that mattered were the feelings of now.

I raised my own right hand now, and pressed it softly against her face. It was hard and cool, but sharing the frictionless lack of texture intrinsic to her dollskin. My hand wandered to her small notch of a nose, feeling her lack of nostrils or pores, and continued down to her mouth, feeling its slight depression with my fingertips.

She continued examining me in turn, her right hand following around the side of my face and flowing through the hair at the back of my neck. I echoed her in turn, sliding my hand around her face and taking a similar path. I found no grooves, no seams. Her head seemed to be a solid, complete piece. There was a slight lip around the bottom of her head, where the hard plastic transitioned to her smooth clothlike dollskin, but it was tight to her neck, only giving enough room for her to maneuver her head. It was unremovable.

She seemed to notice my conclusion, and pulled back a bit to look me in the eyes.

I decided to ask my delusion what it was, or at least, what it thought it was.

"Are you a person trying to be a doll, or a doll trying to be a person?"

Somehow I feel these kigurumi must be illegal, they are both exceptionally appealing, and simultaneously disturbing, and they play recklessly with the laws separating 2D and 3D moe. I guess you could say it's just a harmless hybridisation of cosplay and figurines, but... figures aren't supposed to move, and cosplayers are supposed to remain 3d pig-disgusting... that's the just the way the universe should work... right?

When she turned away, I feared the worst.

It didn't matter that she was a figment of my imagination. I had questioned her very nature, and it was possible she herself did not even know.

She had her back to me now, standing just a couple of steps in front of me, her arms to her sides, as if she were preparing for a revelation. Slowly, her hands rose up to her chest, where I could not see, and gently moved in and out, tugging at something. Finally, a red cloth appeared in her right hand, and she let go of it, letting it softly flutter to the ground.

She had begun to undress.

Her hands returned to where I could not see, running slowly down her body, unfastening invisible buttons with every tug. This action complete, she then pulled at her left sleeve, removing her left arm, and then doing the same on her right, allowing her top to drop off and exposing her back.

Then suddenly, she folded her arms in front of her, and stopped moving.

I remained transfixed at her appearance, not actually taking in what I was seeing but rather in a sort of stupor. We remained like this for some time,

Then, her head turned slightly, as though she had been waiting for me to act. Inviting me to explore. Her sudden movement jolted my mind into action again.

I realized now what she was doing. She was answering my question, not through words but through the senses of sight and touch. She had no answer to give me, all she could do was show me what she was.

When I began my exploration, she gave no complaint.

I placed my hands on the dollskin on her shoulders, and felt around her back, looking for a zipper, a seam, a groove, anything that would indicate that it was removable.

There was no such thing.

As I examined her, she remained silent and still, her head returned to facing forward and away. She moved slightly with every touch, but only enough to remain standing. Other than that, she allowed me to move her every which way, so I could determine and be convinced of her true nature.

My hands continued exploring to her left arm, feeling and enjoying the smoothness of her dollskin, and the softness and warmth of her underlying flesh. Besides the frictionless layer of cloth, she felt like a human being, her joints flexed like a human being, her build appropriate and beautiful for her height and size.

The only sticking points were her dollskin, perfect and seamless in every way, and her head, a single unremovable piece. If she where a person trying to playact as a doll, there would be zippers, seams, some indication that these things were assembled onto her and could plausibly be disassembled.

But there were none.

I didn't really know why I was trying to make sense of her. She was my delusion, right? It seemed counterproductive to make sense of my delusions.

But she seemed to want it. She seemed to want to make sense. She wanted to be plausible.

She wanted to be real.

Build Up Studio Sigma makes awesome masks, but they only take japanese orders and it's very expensive. (think around $1000, maybe?)

The mask in OP is from Dolphin Studio, they're slightly easier to buy from but I don't like most of their generic masks, i'd say that one is the best they have.

These things are pretty creepy.
