Yeah, Turn has a kinda meh artstyle but there's a few really great panels. Kei Natsumi is definitely the best. He (?) does 1, 3 and 8. 4 has some really great art as well. 5 has kinda shitty art at the beginning but by like the three quarter mark it magically gets really fucking great art. Hey, I have a little question about something I find odd.
Look at the pic one moment. The Ushiromiya family has a hierarchy, and Battler is the 8th and Maria the 9th in this hierarchy.
But shouldn’t Maria be the 10th since Rudolph has a daughter, Ange? She’s supposed to be between Battler and Maria in the hierarchy, right?
I'm trying to translate this part of the manga and I don't know if I should look over this little detail. Do you guys know if it is this way for a reason told during the novel? I don't remember it.

He got the writers from Rewrite to work with him.
He likely already wrote the outline and wanted to write it himself and publish it by the end of 2014. However, he was severely overworked.

Back in November 2013, he was sick with the dreaded cold and couldn't work. This pushed back the release of the final season of RGD by a few weeks. And it also made him rush the ending of the story.

He was also working on Sui, his other horror love story romance for two years as well as trying to write TRI by the end of 2014. It was too much for him so he said in the 2014 October Party that he would only release one title a year.

TRI is going to be three stories which are connected somehow, where you can hop from one story to another whenever you want. All of the stories will be related somehow by the theme or something else. That loli doll seems to be a united factor.
The three stories are highschoolers going on a field trip to a rual place. A sci-fi war in space, on a colony with the war taking interest on that planet colony. And an Alice in Wonderland story.

That's basically all I know of the project and what Ryukishi has been working on.

It is. The PS3 sprites are ugly. They look like every other sharp chinned big eyed generic anime character designs, and blatantly ruin how characters like Bern and Dlanor look. Ryukishi's art is not that bad, despite what everybody says, and by using the PS3 art, you are not viewing the characters as intended by the artist. Why are those sprites superior? Because you get five fingers? With all the rest that's wrong with them, I'll take Ryukishi's muffin hands.

The art is just better, how could you possibly think otherwise? The proportions, anatomy, coloring, detail are all objectively better.
Style is better too but that's my opinion. The expressions are a decent attempt to capture the originals although I can understand if you think they aren't as good.

That said, original sprite purists are truly deluded if they think using PS3 sprites makes some huge difference that neuters the experience in any way.

The details and colors are done in a way that makes them look like shined statues instead of organic beings, which I really can't get into. The sharp edges and lolified characters actually do make it more difficult for me to feel the experience of the originals when there's such a noticeable difference - case in point, the inorganic feel I noted before (the sharp chins and such add to this) and their butchering of Bernkastel and Dlanor. The expressions seem way too forced in the PS3 art than needed as well, while the originals capture the emotions being portrayed in a way that doesn't contrast with the rest of the art or overemphasize itself. Higanbana is a collection of short stories taking place in an elementary school involving youkai, bullying, suicide, depression, blackmail, etc. It's rather good overall. Actress girl has one of Ryukishi's best twist he's ever done and along with Running Girl, it's one of his best stories he's written.

Rose Gun Days is rather good but very linear. It's as if he went on the internet, saw people talk shit about how he could only trick people with the unreliable narrator and decided to write a simple story.
It's basically a cross between Bebop + Baccano + Moulin Rouge.
At first, RGD is very slow and you get the impression that it's his worst work until you get to the mid point of ep 1, after the first mini-boss gets defeated and the first real villain shows up. After that, it's a great read until the end.

The problem of RGD is that it's so linear that it doesn't spend enough time on its character, some are outright ignored and wasted past ep 1. But the true gold of RGD are the villain. The villains are the true reason to read this. They're so good. Wang and Gabriel are some of the best villains Ryukishi has ever made, it's great.

Another problem of RGD is the ending. It's rushed to shit. Ryukishi got sick back in November 2013 or so with the dreaded cold and couldn't write for about two weeks or so. This forced RGD Last Season to be released after Comitek but you can feel that the entire ending was reeeallly pushed out as fast as possible. There's a huge great final showdown, key members and fighters are there and aren't given a resolution. For example, there's a fight between two of the best knife welder and it's hype but he never shows the fight and neither win. It's bullshit.

Still, RGD Season 3 is up there with Ryukishi's best work such as Higurashi ep 6 and Umineko ep 5. Worth the read.

Trianthology sounds like something Ruykishi thought he might have been able to write on his own but getting sick made him realize he's pushing himself too far, so he asked for help. Hilariously, TRI was supposed to be released in Winter 2014. He probably already wrote the outline and got his friend writers from Rewrite to help out. It looks like an interesting postmodern experimental work, being able to hop between three stories to grasp themes. We'll see how it goes.

Higanbana Tthe First Night is full on beautiful and choke-full of twists all around. It's very dark, but amongst the best stories Ryukishi has ever written. It reads like a very good novella collection exploring the darkness of the human condition.

The Second Night is much, much less good. Exception taken of Running Girl, which is absolutely beautiful, the Second Night was heavily reworked because the First Night never sold much, on account of being too dark. The Second Night reads like a Touhou SoL doujin. Not a bad one, though, if that is your thing.

I very much agree with Second Night. The problem with Ryukishi is that he's insanely sadistic but he's also too optimistic for his own good. First Night was dark with a small hope of optimism. In Second Night, there's wayyy too much optimistic.
A good example is that short story about the eyepatch girl losing her best friend and summoning a demon to resurrect her friend's soul into a teddy bear. That story, besides Running girl, is probably my favorite in Second Night. Everything from the eyepatch girl losing the will to live, the demon asking a banal exchange such as your 'hello' words to the friend going apeshit that she's been awoken.
I actually tried not saying 'hello' and 'goodbye' to people for a whole week. It's completely depressing. You become a robot who only wants things and ignore people. A truly horrible life. Plus, her friend, having her soul inside a teddy bear for all of eternity would have been the worst.

In that story, the eyepatch girl should have been fucked. She agreed to the exchange, got her friend back and her friend told her that she never liked her. The devil should have never felt pity for her. It should have accepted the deal, laughed at the eyepatch girl and both girls would have been miserable for the rest of their life. Instead, the devil felt pity and Ryukishi got to be optimistic about people moving on.

I felt a bit cheated. It would have been better to end with the girls being fucked but it's uplifting for the girl to understand to move on with her life. Meh, whatever.
Second Night was too optimistic.

That problem appears again with Rose Guns Days. Everyone should have died yet Ryukishi made it so that more than half the cast survived. That's just poor.

It took a while for me to notice that.

Something like a dozen time in the First Night alone, she is presented as sitting on fences, doors, roofs, and looking down on people while talking to them. It is subtle - Ryukishi doesn't really put the focus in it. it's just here, her default position every time she appears. I thought it was really cool when I connected the dots with the position of her physical vessel in the infirmary.

There is a lot of small things that I caught on rereading. Like the epilogue of the story with the bunny killer: she says an awfully ambiguous sentence that can be either interpreted as a rhetorical question or 'poor thing shouldn't have insulted my friend Marie'. And then little things suddenly make sense. By instance, a little back, when she asks of the killer to whom he is apologizing, I had thought she meant he should apologize to the people he killed, but she probably meant he should apologize to Marie.

It wasn't a willing decision from Ryukishi. I think he really put a part of himself in the First Night, and he was really disappointed when it didn't work. After Umineko and the way he lost touch with a part of his fanbase, he really wanted to return to its root and do something popular. The Second Night is an almost desperate reaction to the fact that the First Night simply was not as popular as (I think) it should. He allowed himself to bride himself and his creativity for his fans.

At 25 hours, it's only a little more than three times as long as KnownNoMore's Rosatrice videos, but contains ten times the autism. For those of you who complained about KNM trying to reason with the red truth like a formal system, you definitely won't have that complaint with this one. It explains literally everything, yes, literally literally everything. Even the most banal off-handed comments are analyzed just like the red. As it turns out, you if you reduce everything to a fantasy sequence and change the names around, you can make it mean what you want.

I never quite understood what the solution is though. Feels like she never actually said what it was. There were BSDM warnings, and I remember something about Yasu(=Jessica=Kyrie=Ange=Battler) cutting off Battler's penis because he was secretly gay and hurt Beatrice(=Maria=Kanon=Yasu(!?!)=Ange) but not fuggling with her.

Be warned though, that Infinity Stop's voice isn't nearly as dreamy as Known No More's is.

The VN (and the First Night, particularly) is relatively subtle and a good dive into the vicissitude of the human condition. The characters are likable and realistic, with the kind of issues every child face one day or an other. The VN is a horror story in the surface that hides a powerful social criticism. The Youkai aren't really the primary characters of the Vn, but instead the reveler of the underlying social constructs of a traditional Japanese school. Higanbana is very, very fond of dramatic irony and frequently serves as the deus (or diabolus) ex machina final who gives rewards and retributions. She is easily amongst the best characters Ryukishi has ever written, Bernkastel tier.

The manga is a horror story without any kind of subtlety that cash on deformed faces and shock value alone. Any kind of social criticism is hidden by all the blood and gore, and so much is lost that it's not even funny.

I'm wondering if anyone here knows for sure a location that has an Umineko PachiSlot. I know I probably will be throwing my money away but I figured I would give it a try before leaving. I checked the site but I couldn't find any specific listings for a parlor that has one for sure.

It wasn't originally a manga. The manga was adapted afterwards, just like how the Higurashi and Umineko manga came after the story was written. The difference is that Higanbana was never actually translated until 2013 and someone translated the manga before the VN was translated. Ryukishi07 decided to release it as a VN later, and I think it works much better since it's more indepth and you can see the emotions behind the characters. IIRC, Kanon was created for one, and one thing:allow Jessica to have 'male date' for that concert. He was born of pithy from Yasu, and a lot of craziness too, but he should never have survived the day. It was not in the plan. Unfortunately, things really went haywire, and she did what every teen does when things go haywire: she refused to step back down, and instead escalated.

So, Jessica took a liking on Kanon, and then Krauss. Yasu managed the deception by ensuring that he was always 'needed elsewhere' when called for (with the help of Genji). She was in Kanon persona maybe one day every month, when Jessica or Krauss really, really wanted to see Kanon for some reason. In Kanon persona, she never spoke unless she really needed to, and simply remained aloof. I can totally see that working.

If a man can juggle between two wifes that lives in the same city, she can impersonates Kanon twelve days a year. You underestimates the capacity for acting people can have when they really must, and overestimates the difficulty of the task. It's like you never upheld a lie more than two hours. I have lied to my friends for years, and they still have no idea.

I was always under the assumption that the Ushiromiyas never really cared about the identities of the servants at all, and everything that was related to the servants was left at the hands of Genji. They didn't notice anything strange with Shannon and Kanon because they simply didn't care enough.
