If you have a CAV in your fleet drop it. The ability to avoid the maelstrom is not worth losing the chance to go south on B node and increased chance to gutter to bauxite node after D node. (I had 80% chance to get bauxite node with 2CV 2DD 1BB 1CAV). I recommend using 2CV 2DD 2CA. You don't need the 2nd shelling phase except on harder nodes where the enemy will provide the BB, and it gives you chance to go straight from F to G. In short - it's all simple addition/deduction however modifiers are multiplicative and can occur at different phases of formula. Scratch happens when result is 0 or lower and it's % of current HP.
