Nice starter collection OP. I'll rip and upload my copy of the first Supercar collection when I get home. You could add it to your collection if you'd like.
Coaltar of the Deepers is probably my favorite band out of what you uploaded. One of the guys (Narasaki) did the soundtrack for a B-movie zombie flick called Stacy: Attack of the Schoolgirl Zombies. It's pretty good.

They're nothing new in the slightest, but I've always loved Soil & "PIMP" Sessions. Even got many "normal" friends hooked on them, particularly Magnetic Soil, which is a really approachable album. It opens pretty strong:

My personal favorite track:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKioT2Ey2Ao

As for recent favorites, I finally gave Midori another shot after a few years, and I'm loving them. I don't even recall what initially turned me off, but that sometimes happens for me. I need to be the right person at the right moment to appreciate it.

Can't seem to find a YouTube preview for the track I most enjoy. Anyway, it's the fourth track on セカンド.

All remixes, yeah. Good stuff though.

If you just want Anime OSTs: http://hikarinoakariost.info/

You have all the usual moe suspects like Idolm@ster and Love Live, there's also OSTs Miyazaki films and even Action & Drama animes.

But I highly recommend the remixes, it adds extra energy to the Moe goodness. You can always download them later once the original songs lost their kick.

Different strokes for different folks.

Behind butchers, Number Girl are my second favourite band. I find them incredibly fun to listen to, with insane energy and a very unique sound (particularly in Sappukei and Num-Heavymetallic).

Technically / musically (in terms of their guitar riffs and stuff) I think NG are superior to butchers, but butchers reaches me on an emotional level that I have yet to find with any other band so far. Personally I think Youth is their best album, followed by Kocorono and then No Album Mudai. They have other good ones too like Yamane and Banging the Drum is pretty good, but the first 3 as complete albums are rock solid with barely any bad songs IMO.

I also find their struggle quite tragic. I know bands struggling and trying to get noticed are a dime a dozen, but after watching the documentary, you kind of get the sense that the band was on the brink of collapse all the time, but Yoshimura was the last thread holding them all together through his passion for his music.

Incidentally you mentioned his solo EP - the company who released it actually made it free to listen to for 24 hours just about a week ago to commemorate his death, so it's a shame you didn't manage to hear it then. Buuut...I've uploaded it and a few other things (like the documentary with English subs) here:

https://mega.co.nz/#F!JxgHkIqL!UU-QtD2RC4Ubk-BuvoPasw

It sounds very different and experimental though; probably not what you're expecting. If you're expecting something similar to butchers' catalogue, then don't.

oh, dude. these solo works songs are incredible! really appreciate the upload, i'll have to get this with my next shipment of albums in a couple weeks. i got Tabuchi's solo album from there before, it was good to hear how different her solo acoustic stuff is from NG/butchers.

anyways, i can respect that opinion. NG resonates with me more for sure, but it and butchers do have a different feeling. i try to avoid letting a band's "story" affect my judgment of the music, but i knew Yoshimura was someone who gave a shit about what he did and that's commendable. i actually haven't listened to Youth since it released, and i'm not sure why. i remember "Destroyer" being great.

Some people hate on it. They have become a bit more accessible and perhaps a bit less authentic, but still really nice to listen to.
I think it's really nice that they develop. Every time a band changes their style they're bound to get a lot of criticism, as people feel nostalgia towards their earlier works, but people develop emotionally and their music reflects that.
Sato is still a musical genius, don't let other's opinions influence your enjoyment of their music.

I bought a lot of Japanese CD's.
I have 4 Michelle Gun Elephant CD's now.\
Everything I'm posting now is from a few Japanese soundtrack CD's I picked up as well. Despite one song being in English and by a famous American lead singer, it was originally asked by the studio for the lead singer to create a song for the movie. This lead singer is Peter Cetera from the band Chigaco who launched a solo career where his popularity was unrivaled in Japan where he made several singles for movies.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_2yoUPTiOg

Next comes from Resurrection of Golden Wolf. The artist was a popular singer. I'm not so sure she qualified as an idol ( I don't think so). This movie turned me on to her music. She's got a real classic rock vibe to her. This song wasn't on Yusaku Matsuda's memorial CD that I bought to my regret, but its much still an enjoyable CD.

So I bought this because butchers are my favourite band. I'll be honest, I kind of did so begrudgingly, because Imoriya kind of left me with a bit of a bad impression of him after watching the Kocorono documentary, and I naively thought "how exciting can an album featuring mainly 2 bass guitars be?", but it's seriously fucking really good. There are quite a few guest musicians which makes it a bit more interesting; I kind of wonder how different they are live, because as I understand it, it's just those 2 with their bass and then they use one bass drum too, whereas the album has a few tracks which incorporate different instruments.

Still, well worth checking out.

if this is the butchers anon from earlier in the thread, the reason i mentioned the album was that i was hoping you'd post an upload, samples, or at least your thoughts on it. after you posted the samples i got a friend to buy the album for me as a birthday gift, and i don't regret that. really great work. i had no problem with Imoriya in the butchers documentary. interesting you got a bad impression of him. i also got that Yoshimura solo album in. have you heard/would your recommend Komatsu's work in SOSITE? i almost forgot about it but i remembered Atsuo from Boris had a slight hand in its production and that entices me more to buy it.

I am the same dude. I actually ordered a bunch of their albums just to support them (The Shimmer, No Album Mudai, the Imoriya album, and both SOSITE albums), but I only just received them this past Friday and I've been listening/digesting them since then, so you probably would've already received yours by the time I had ripped it.

The reason I had a slightly sour impression of Imoriya is because he seemed to be the least proactive of the band, and he even admits "I know I didn't contribute much [to the album]". Plus there were some tribute shows to commemorate Yoshimura's death recently, and Komatsu attended a bunch of them but Imoriya didn't. I know it's utterly retarded for me to judge him on these though, as I only know a tiny sliver of their relationship, but I guess I'm only going off what I know. It's obvious from the doc that they had a very strained relationship.

As for SOSITE, they're not bad. They're mainly sort of instrumental math rock-y type stuff. I do think the first album is produced really badly though. It sounds very amateurishly recorded to me.

like i said way back, i don't let artist history get in the way of how i feel towards the music. but i saw Imoriya as more undervalued by Yoshimura--who, let's be honest, was ridiculously stubborn. not a bad thing, but decades of treatment the way Imoriya seemed to receive in the doc? i'd be worn out and a little bitter from that shit, too. but of course, that's just me. anyways, i really liked the SOSITE material on first listen. i'll see how it settles with me over time.

Straight up punk I can't really say.
Judgement maybe? Gastunk?

I'm personally more versed in 80s "japcore" which if you liked the aforementioned I guess more of the same would be laughin nose, the stalin, etc?
Might be too close to crust but it's close enough to what I love I'd hate to not try.

Envy isn't skramz, Envy is post-hardcore/screamo
There is no such thing as skramz as a genre, it's a joke label tossed around in order to single out dumbasses like yourself.
Listen to G.I.S.M.
