Can you run a 100V 50Hz/60Hz Japanese Rice Cooker on American 120V 60Hz outlet? Let's find out!

Test subject is a Zojirushi Pressure IH cooker, NP-RJ05, fresh out of the box, a nice mid-range unit.

Tonight we're making curry and rice with tonkatsu.

>> No.13529379

Im interested, keep posting.

>> No.13529398

Nothing wrong with running most 100V electronics on 120V. Casual Google turns up audio forums with guys asking about Japanese stereos, amplifiers, etc.
The exception is appliances with heating elements in them. Like rice cookers. The element is going to get 20% hotter than it should by design. The results are going to be either really okay, or really bad, but I figure you wouldn't be using a $100 rice cooker if you knew there was a reasonable chance it might melt and catch fire.

no. i did that by mistake (forgetting that the ac was 120v) and it fried itself (i.e. smoke).

Well I can't get the page to load anymore for some reason. But the rice turned out PERFECT. Better than perfect. This is the first time I've ever been able to eat rice plain, and enjoy it. You've never tried rice until you've tried it from a Japanese rice cooker. Best curry EVER.

This whole thread reeks of fucking weebs, you troglodyte.

Go and learn to cook your own traditional country food instead of this shit.

And if your country has lousy gastronomy than it just fucking sucks.

They're usually built well enough to not fry themselves, but the voltage is part of the fuzzy logic calculation iirc. It'll work but you don't really get the optimal result.

So I guess it doesn't matter much with lower end ones, but doing this to a high end unit is a huge waste of money unless you just -really- want the buttons to be in Japanese rather than English.

That's an expensive rice cooker, I wouldn't risk it. Most things switch over US - JP, but be careful. You can get a converter for cheap on Amazon. Just get it.
Why not just get the US model?
