I've been thinking of raising new pets for awhile now.
I'm already pretty far into this character. Is it too late to start with low level pets? I kind of want to raise a halloween pumpkin head as a potion thrower, and maybe a fire baby child or something.

I feel like it would be way too late.

Why would it be too late? Just gene engineer creatures into your pet to get it to a level you're comfortable with. Then it's just letting them spend money at a trainer and having them come with you to dungeons to kill things.

Unarmed can be made to work in higher level areas. I would pair it with spell casting though. You're going to need a way to heal yourself and dispatch enemies that are problematic up close. That or you can take up alchemy and throwing.

Yes, direct damage spells. There are some creatures early on where you don't really want to fight up close such as creatures that attack with acid that can damage your armor and other stuff. The wiki has some outdated information. Living weapons are much more easier to manage these days. Max lv for a living weapon is 15 and whenever you lv it you'll be given a short list of effects you can add to a living weapon. You get to choose. Be aware though that there might be a translation error that still exists where the options to give a living weapon bonus elemental damage or give a living weapon bonus to elemental resists are swapped. 1) what should I be spending level up skill points on? should I be saving them for high skill levels (do skills level slower the higher you go or are these bonus points worth the smae no matter waht skill). I assume I should be spending them on the stuff that is hard to increase like performer, travel, or swimming?

2) How do I stop pets from drinking from wells? I don't see it under whip settings

3) does weight lifting train faster at Burden! than at Burden?

4) does cursed food lower stats?

5) what do you prefer in your house vendors? "General" (??) Vendor or "Goods" vendor (wands, herbs)

6) What level garden skill should I save my herbs for assuming I plant and harvest on rainy days.

7) does sense quality train faster with more unidentified items or does it max out skill gains with only 1?

8) once all skills are trained are platinum coins only useful for skill potential training?

9) do you guys level all skills equally (jack of all trades - using blessed scrolls of growth) or focus exclusively on a few core ones (ex melee, crafting, etc).

10) does blessing scrolls of ally give any benefits?

11) how do I increase my pets attribute potential?

I like it when you ask question, I can pay back some of the answers people have given me

1. Use them on skills you know will be important for you. People sometimes say save them, but I say spend them when you need to. Just get the skill to 100% potential and then wait till it needs another skill point. You need your plat early for learning new skills. mid-game you'll wish you saved them, but if you try your early game will be a lot harder, and then your mid game will too.

2. Tell them not to eat food on the ground. Though you may want to let one drink since wishes they get go to you

3. I have no idea

4. I don't believe so, but don't quote me on it. In fact I'm pretty sure I've gained stats from cursed food, but it was herbed so it may not be the best evidence since the herb effect is separate.

5. I have 2 magic, 2 goods, a black market, and a maid. magic and goods both supply scrolls of wonder which pay for themselves with revives and wizard harvest. Plus cheap rod charges, potentials, etc etc

6. If you're planting in the rain just wait for 20 or 30, a lowish level should suffice. Don't worry too much about it.

7. I'm almost certain it does.

8. There's a few things that use them like monthly potential training, upgrading your cart, etc, but for the most part yes. Just keep I think it was 4 on you so you can do the monthly training.

9. Use blessed growth regardless. You'll naturally level to your playstyle and it isn't too hard to keep potentials - continued

keep potentials above 100% in most skills you like. You'll want to level most non-weapon skills at least a little bit, especially considering they'll train stats. Don't worry too much about that sort of thing though. Just keep potentials high, especially on the ones you know you'll need, and it'll work itself out. For instance, I make sure to keep my meditation potential above 100% and I recently hit 400 meditation. I didn't even notice it get so high past 200.

10. I believe so

11. I'm not very good with pets but I think most anything that trains their skill potential also trains their stat potential. I don't think the dojo does but I might be wrong.

Any other questions?

>>13427077
I did that for awhile and still do sometimes. I've been doing a lot of nefia dungeons though so I'm leveling up enough that I can just read growths till 400% potential, then drop 30 skill points on alchemy and level up 5-6 times. Soon I can buy 100 skill points with AP too. Thanks for the advice though.

>>13427084
What class are you? How high level are you/how far through the game are you? I find Kumi early for mages is good for literacy. You might want to do Ehekatl now for the feat, plus you'll train fishing while you grind through her which is useful for gathering alchemy materials later. I wish I did her sooner, missed out on a lot of materials.

>> No.13427226

I thought training (at least for pp) was a static 20% potential per training in Elona+?

Does the skill point potential = 13% per point?

So you don't train at ALL (PP or skill point) until a skill hits 29%?

Thanks

>>13427136
2) I think I see it the option is wrong translation on my client when interacting (duplicate entry)

5) okay cool. Do goods vendors sell anything else worth looking for other than wands and scrolls of wonder? can they stock potential pots too?

5b) For the black market vendor I was told to get one too and what he offers seems to be over priced garbage. Is his entire point to check for living weapons or is there any other gear that is worth it? (those prices are retarded)

>>13427158
2 default. You can get more depending on your faith.

I think the equation is to divide your (faith) x .10

My current faith (40) lets me have 4.

40 x .10 = 4

Don't quote me on it.

Skill potential from skill points follow vanilla elona formula for platinum potential, so 15%- for each 15% you already have, rounded down.

I keep my platinum for passive and crafting skills, the first raising slowly and the second raising when i want so they never get low.
In practice i only use my points on weapon/armour skills during dungeon diving.

It would be better in real time to simply overweight yourself and keep refreshing blacksmiths inventories for soxes though, i don't do it simply because it's boring for me.

>3) Burden/Burden!
no. It trains the same, from what I can tell.

>4) Cursed food
No and yes. Vomiting itself doesn't lower stats, but anorexia causes you to get negative gains from stats when you vomit due to it. It's risky in general to eat cursed food.

11) pet potential
You're probably not at the point in the game where you're drowning in potential potions, but, blessing stacks of them and tossing a few at a pet work well. There's also a new ability that lets you share potions across multiple pets at a reduced effect, I think that helps for that.

Otherwise, the new picnic basket works well. Herbed herbs work too.

In my opinion that's extremely wasteful. You could fairly easily be getting triple the experience from most things, and you're trading that for a tiny bit less work. Platinum does train a flat 20%, all the way to 400. Points increase potential more the lower it is, and decrease a fair bit above 100%. I believe points give 9% around the 100% area (30%ish below) so just get it to 100% and you'll be gravy. Even if it's at 99% you'll still get the full 9% too.

2) It's one of the top two options for the whip. If one is translated right, just use the other.

5) Seeds, herbs, gifts (of every kind, for pennies unlike the guaranteed gift vendors), furniture (I've seen happy beds and bbq sets) sometimes they'll even have a decent piece of armor. I'm almost certain I got a 7 league boots from one on another character. They don't stock potions.

5b) I felt the same way, I still kind of do. They are nigh useless until the point where you have more money than you know what to do with. Close to when you start doing awakened dungeons you'll be getting nearly 1mil every dungeon run. You'll save it up, break a kitty bank full of 20mil, invest all your shops to 500, and not know what to do with it past that. They are useful for artifact fusion and what not. I've bought maybe 3 things from mine, but hey, upgrades are upgrades. They are absolutely not necessary. In fact I would advise against them until much later. Continued

I didn't actually know that about god pets. Neat.

Anyway, if you like using magic offensively I would say go Kumi so you can read better. If not then you're probably mostly using it for the buffs, and those books are extremely easy to read. I'd say Ehekatl, or maybe something else for their weapon if it'll suit you or a pet. Kumi might still be a good option for the gem so you get more mileage out of your plants.

Eventually you will start failing at gathering if your skill isn't high enough. I believe these failures don't give you experience for the skill either. So by raising fishing while grinding Ehekatl you'll raise your fishing, so you can gather, so you can raise your fishing, so you can gather, etc. Angel's tears are part of the potion of potential alchemy recipe, and you only get them from fishing spots, so it's a worthwhile investment. Also picnic baskets I guess.

I think you can also trade 30 for a special item used in artifact fusion, but I like potentials too much to give that a go.

"twist own arm and slammed jab" is the text for an absolute piercing attack due to the Claymore class feat, not a critical hit.

A Skull Sword is good healing at the time you can first make it, but it scales poorly. Good early game, poor late game. A powerful weapon with nether damage is an excellent source of healing for a melee or ranged character at pretty much any point in the game. It won't completely obsolete healing spells/potions, but will noticeably decrease dependency on them.

The bombs are re-usable as long as you remember to pick them up. Which I've forgotten more times than I'd like.

I've made two mage characters that have gotten to beating Siva. My old one used lightning and my current character uses magic damage. I can't recommend magic over lightning enough.

Elemental scar and wet status make lightning viable sure, but applying elemental scar to a boss monster is terribly annoying, and it adds an extra cast to any kill you make even ignoring bosses. There aren't many monsters with magic resistance past little. Sure there will be a few that you can barely scratch, but you should be carrying rod of change creature anyway.

If you want to roleplay a lightning mage then go for it, it's not like it's actually bad, it's just not as good. Personally I would suggest dark over lightning if you aren't going pure magic though, blind is damn useful.

>> No.13430400

I don't have in mind so much a lightning mage as an apostle of one of the gods. Specifically Lulwy.

As far as goals go, I tend to go about my business seeking offerings for my god, as well as spreading her good word. I play unarmed mostly because I am trying to avoid actions that venerate other gods. So I don't use firearms because they're associated with Mani, and scythes because Kumiromi uses one. I do not wield a bow because that would mean not giving a bow to Lulwy, and chances are the bow I would choose to wield would be the best bow I could get my hands on, which would mean giving to Lulwy all the bows I found except the very best bow I found, which is unacceptable.

Magic is something I haven't thought too much about. I figured I shouldn't use rods because Itzpalt likes rods and staves, but now I think I shouldn't resort to classical elemental spells, like fire, ice and lightning, because Itzpalt of Element.

Well I don't know too much about RP but Lulwy gives you a bow, couldn't you use that? Also pure magic isn't associated with Itzpalt. Neither are the spells boosted by nightmare, as far as I know.

You could just build an unarmed monk I guess. Use the magic buff spells to help. Level speed like a mother fucker and just be sanic. Lulwy likes sanic, so cast speed to your heart's content.

Actually, question for you. Is Lulwy responsible for the ether wind? I always thought she was because she's the god of wind and her weapon is made of ether, but her statue's quote during ether wind "you expect me to turn a hand in this filthy wind?" suggests otherwise.

No, we only deal with the Meshera personally in Elona+, but it's originally mentioned in the Vanilla storyline.

The story that happens via cutscenes (that don't appear in the English version) during the main quest of Vanilla Elona is about Saimore, the prince of Zanan, creating a plot to make the world destroy the Vindale Forest. By doing so, the Meshera go wild and eventually destroy all life on Irva.

Turns out that his co-conspirator Barius essentially has a clone of the forest so that the all-life-ends scenario doesn't happen, and hopes to use it as leverage to create the perfect society. Of course, corruption happens and that all goes to shit, so.

Anyways, the South Tyris portion of Elona+ is mostly us dealing with the aftermath of the vanilla storyline. The wiki has a translated version of the vanilla story, btw. http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Story

I haven't harvested food from trees in a long time so I may be wrong but my gut says the bonus you can get from gardening won't apply to the trees. As for the merit what merit are you talking about? The merit of high gardening and planting fruit seeds? The merit is very good then. At high gardening you'll pull a +10 fruit allowing you to create a +10 parfait. The bonus you multiply to the normal value the food gives you to stats. So lets say you make a grand parfait, excellent for training magic, base value is 130 but multiplied by 10 is 1300. Better than the Mareilon herb equivalent which gives 1000 or so.

That's not how it works. The "+10" gets added to the base nutrition of the food. For Fruit and Magic, that's 50.

A normal Grand Parfait gives 115 MAG experience (before potentials come into the equation). A +10 Grand Parfait gives 138 MAG experience.

Also, Mareilon gives 800 MAG experience.

Now this makes sense. It has always felt that the Mareilon herb gave me more magic gains than the +10 grand parfait.

Though It didn't make sense to me because like the other guy was talking about I too was under the assumption that the +10 got calculated to the grand parfait. Guess we were both wrong.

If that's the case herb infused herbs should always win out against normal food infused with herbs. Not to say people should stop infusing normal foods with herbs but if you have the supplies to make herb infused herbs you definitely should.

>> No.13430987

>>13430941
If you're going to herb herbs, it best to do it with stomafilia and curaria. You will always have leftover curaria/stomafilia. Rare herbs will be your bottleneck.

The best rare herb gives 1680 xp across stats. Herbed food gives 7200xp across stats. The curaria and stomafillia needed to make the herbed food only costs 1350 xp. You lose a minimum of 4170 potential xp among stats by herbing a rare herb instead of making another herbed food with it.

>> No.13431040

How does herbed food give more xp across stats when regular food used as a base is weaker than using an herb as a base?

>> No.13431061

Think of picnic baskets as a group Potion of potential and only that.
You eat food, like herbed stuff to train stats.
Using up herbed food for something that won't train stats, only their potential is a waste.

>> No.13431068

>>13431040
Because the "herb effect" and the food's normal gains are completely different.

Just the fact that a food is herbed means it'll give a minimum of 7200xp across all the stats. It doesn't matter if that's a grotesque putit corpse or a morgia - the fact that it's herbed means it's worth 7200xp at a minimum.

Rare herbs- Morgia, Mareilon, Spenseweed, etc. are the bottlenecks to making herbed food, since as their names suggests, they're more rare. If you put the herb effect onto the best rare herb, the food is now worth 8800xp across all stats- 7200 from the herb effect, and 1680 from the herb that you eat.

If you instead use that rare herb to "herb" another food (so that you now have two "herbed" foods), the total xp from those two foods is a minimum of 14400xp. You cheat yourself out of a massive amount of stat xp if you put the herb effect on a rare herb (any of the herbs other than curaria and stomafilia).

Curaria and Stomafilia make good food to add the "herb effect" to, but never put the "herb effect" on Mareilon, Alraunia, Morgia, or Spenseweed.

>> No.13431092

I read that as:
Eat herbed curaria for more all-around stats.
Eat herbed rares for higher gain in a single stat, and do this only if you have 18 herbfarms.

Ah I see. Thank you for clearing that up for me. So in order of best xp gains and bang for your buck is it like this? Herb infused with herbs (Curaria or Stomafilia as a base) best. Regular food infused with herbs second best?

So I'm trying to decide which abilities to get with AP. Barrier is really tempting. I still haven't gotten over the fear of being one shot, even though it happens very rarely. Metal guard also sounds fairly useful, how long does it last? The wiki doesn't say.

With your level and mana Barrier shouldn't be that bad. Metal guard lasts only for a few turns but those few turns can be deciding. It's a skill I would use as a last resort. Can't you just "buy the skill again" to remove it and get the AP back? If so I'd test it if I were you.

Also, why don't you spend some music tickets for hero cheese?

>> No.13431561

>>13431463
Doesn't barrier cause damage to subtract from your mana as long as you have more than 1/3 of your max mana? It looks like you have a lot of mana because you're a wizard but a couple of strong hits from an atlas or a strong mob would destroy your mana bar. How do you do most of your damage? Spells? If that's the case you're going to need your mana bar with as much mana as possible to take down things and having your mana bar deplete through hits is not going to do you any favors. Hows your magic capacity? If it's high then maybe you can make it work. If you use pets for your damage then maybe barrier can work as well.

I'd recommend Brave at least. Maybe obstinate for the lower chance the enemy will crit you as you take damage. Obstinate might not be that great though because you probably have contingency casted. So your call on that. If none of the traits or skills interest you I would highly recommend you convert your AP points into skill bonus. When you do this you'll get 100 skill points to distribute. Not too shabby.

I think I'll give metal guard a try then. I can't take down Yerleswood right now because it almost never hitting me, and contingency being 80%, it does one shot me. Might as well spend the one awakened dungeon of AP to take it down.

Also, you can buy hero cheese with music tickets?! Holy shit. I didn't know. Best way to get them is just party time quests ya? Guess I'm grinding those for awhile. Thanks anon.

>>13431561
Ya that's what it does. I do all my damage through spells. My pets are mostly there for distraction as I didn't have the fore-sight to raise pets from the start. I've been thinking of taking Kouku. The thing is, if a hit would destroy my mana bar then it would probably kill me anyway. I play and build around just not getting hit, but sometimes one does slip through, and then it's a gamble if I'll teleport next to an enemy or be able to heal up, if I don't just get one shotted. Oddly contingency doesn't help as much as I'd like.

I'll definitely be picking up the skill points soon, but I also think it would be a bit wasteful not to get a feat or two, since their effects can't be replicated just through grinding.

Brought down Yerleswood. This mecha hits incredibly hard. Takes half my life away on a hit and a crit would probably turn me into a blood smear on the floor. Fortunately, he's pretty slow, only 276 speed, so with enough speed you can easily afford to do hit and run tactics. What I did was get close enough to throw a volley of magic darts and when he went to shadow step in I'd just teleport away to heal up, pace back and forth for mana, and set up for another attack run. Casted contingency for some insurance against that random crit. Pretty much if you have high enough evasion, good health, and high speed Yerleswood should be a corpse in waiting.

I picked up the Pile Driver off of him. Looks like it would do good damage. I was thinking of giving this weapon to my Valkyrie as she's my melee pet but that hit modifier is pretty bad. I can just see her dragging this along the ground and struggling to use it. Is this a good weapon for a melee pet? What are some good weapons for a melee pet?

For herbs absolutely do not ever plant them outside the dirt tiles. I have never ever gotten a free replant of an herb plant outside of the dirt tiles. Considering how herb seeds are harder to come by farming only in dirt tiles is the way to go.

So first raise you speed only through AP until you reach 800. Then use all the hermes blood, speed uppers, raw shoes, etc to increase it. Your aim is 2000 speed.

Why begin the little sister quests?

also for the heart for monster domination do I risk losing it on death?

Speaking of death can you lose ANY item in your inventory when you die or are precious items protected?

>> No.13438503

>>13438453
The little sister quest deals with killing big daddies and throwing special monster balls, provided by the quest giver, at the little sister that the big daddies drop when they die. You then bring back the little sister to the quest giver. Collect enough little sisters and you'll be allowed to pick from a list that contains all the previous precious items you've collected so far. This is excellent for getting copies of powerful items or replacing precious items you've lost.

One of the major reasons why people do this quest and will want to start doing it early is because while in South Tyris you'll come upon a quest that rewards you the statue of Kumiromi. With the little sister quest you can get copies of this statue thus jump starting a relative stable supply of herb seeds which people are using to boost their stats.

The heart can be loss on death I think. Precious items can't be stolen but you can lose them on death I think.

Dual wield if you play mostly as a melee. It has the potential to do some really nasty damage. It also trains faster than 2handing or sword&board simply because you swing a lot more per turn.
Never dual wield if you are a mage or mostly ranged character. Mages need all the cast chances they can get, and rangers are better off equipping tonfas and claws to boost ranged damage. same for pets.

So what I'd like to know is, is EffectiveSpellLevel affected by +spellpower gear? i.e. if I max out my spell level at 3x, would I get the lowest wish cost at just lvl 100?

2,5x is the max, so if that's the case it'd be at 120.

What would happen if you eat a herbed Halloween pumpkin? You get the buffs first, the stat XP or both at the same time? Can it be used to gain the most out of herbed food or are herbed curarias still the best for overall stat gain?

remember the Medium Armor ability.

I added it to the wiki a few weeks ago, though I see you've found it.

To answer your question (which I also answered on the wiki), no, it's not affected by Magic Armor or "It enhances your spells.".

"EffectiveSpellLevel" is just your BaseSpellLevel rounded down to a whole number (so getting rid of the potential and experience to next level that BaseSpellLevel also holds).

I edited the wiki page to be more clear.

Gains from the "herbed" effect are the first things processed in the function that's called when you eat food. Assuming that the buff would take effect at the same time as corpse bonuses and such, then no, it won't apply.

Yes, it has the /noshop/ tag.

how is the predator class for someone who wants to play a monk type class? It seems like a trap since it has zero stats in half of the stats.

Can the missing stats be trained up or would it better to attempt to shape another class to match the archetype?
