I'm definitely going the wrong way thinking too much about kabbalah then, maybe I should be thinking of black and white as yin and yang again...you mentioned yin and yang a few times but I don't know much about them other than that they are opposing/balancing forces that each have apparently contradictory traits like male/female, black/white, hard/soft, but part of the point of the concept is that what we call 'ugly' is based on what we decide is 'beautiful' and thus all dichotomies rely on the existence of both things for either 'opposite's' existence.
