I like her, she has a good head on her shoulders. She's the kind of woman that you can rely on without question, and her goals are now almost entirely focused on taking it easy and looking out for her fellow tools. She's a better youkai saint than Byakuren.

I also like how she's not really powerful but is still more successful than the youkai bighats because she knows better than to draw attention to herself. I mean, if you asked Remilia to build a new paradise for tools, she'd probably try to port a tropical island into Gensokyo. Raiko, though, I bet she'll just build a quiet village for tools so that they can live without getting bothered by anyone. Then she'll take it easy making noise every day, exactly as planned.

I'm not that big of a fan of her character design, unfortunately.

Extra boss themes are always good. But compared to other games DDC's extra theme is definitely in the bottom 3. The only really good part is 12 seconds from 00:12 to 00:24 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioQLlX2ELbg.. And actually drum part is the worst one, drums are so fucking quiet compared to the aggressive trumpets and other instruments. When drum "solo" begins (00:48) it's just like music decided to take a short break to catch a breath. If you're listening to it in the game you might not even here those drums because of all other game's SFXs. Anyway it's still the most simplistic rhythm possible for a supposedly drum based theme.

And no, Raiko will never "catch up" with other extra bosses in term of popularity (unless you're talking about tanukishit levels). What's her fucking gimmick? What makes her more special/interesting than some stage 1 bosses like Yamame or Letty? What's her role in Gensokyo? How's she related to other 2hus?
Unless ZUN puts her in the new 14.5 game and gives her at least somewhat significant role there she is doomed to be another "below top 50 in thwiki popularity polls" character.

In the youtube video I used as an example the first video in suggestions is Sekibaki's theme and it has more emphatic and louder drums than Raiko's theme.

Even if she loses out on the drums in her theme, she actually has an extremely solid rhythm going on with her danmaku. Almost all her patterns are about seeing and switching between lanes: Her first and seventh cards have you sneak into alternating safespots of every drum wave, her second card has lines of triangle bullets that you need to dodge when they first come out and close into when they slow down, for her third you need to sneak in and out of the drum waves as they come, fifth and eighth require you to choose a lane (as defined by the lasers) unoccupied by the yellow bullets, her survival has you switch your attention between four (and later five) sets of notes and her final has you go through the triangle pellets in time to avoid the thunderbolts from trapping you into them. I also like how there's nothing about her cards that's frantic, it almost feels turn-based at times. You go through one lane of bullets, wait for the next, go through that and repeat. Once you start feeling that tempo, you can really get into the mood during her cards, and it really gets across that "danmaku is for play" feeling.

Screw fast bullets and dense clipdeath walls, Raiko gets what danmaku is supposed to be. She's an absolute pleasure to fight, has one of the most coherent danmaku themes alongside Eirin's hidden bullets and Ran's movement restriction (but unlike Raiko, both of these are absolute balls to face). Tsukumogami are the best youkai.

I have no idea how can anyone enjoy those things. Especially screen shaking, this shit is just unforgivable. This is the worst kind of gimmick, might as well just turn screen pitch black for a second and let you hope for good RNG.

Also her second spellcard requires only one short move (unless you're not at full power). Just a single tap during the whole spellcard, I can't even think about any other extra stage spellcard which would be so stupidly easy.

The problem with Shou's curvy lasers was that they were fast as fuck and you had other bullets to worry about, Raiko has one fast laser that comes out when there's nothing else to dodge and another that is so slow that it might as well be Kanako's extra midboss card with the straight pellet lines. Screen shaking is a joke, you just need to find somewhere that's clear of bullets in between the shakes.

In any of those (except for starbow safespot which is obviously unintended) you need to do more than one tap to survive and sometimes in several directions. Raiko's second is just designed in a way that you can damage it for ~30% before you even think about starting dodging.

Nah, the bullet circle comes apart when the screen shakes, and you can move to the place of one of the bullets that picked up in speed for absolute safety.

It would be much harder with a black screen, though Reimu's hitbox is small enough to dodge the thing without moving during shakes.
