You can feel sorry for yukkuri in a lot of stories. They never deserve the torture they get. The worst they do in 95% of the stories (There's a story where a dosu kidnaps children. And in some others they do serious property damage) is demand food from someone. The result? Torture. Lots of them don't even do ANYTHING and are just tortured for 'stress relief'. And yet you can only feel sorry for the komarisa that lost her hat and got slammed by her family? Christ man. Either feel sorry for all of them or none of them.

OF YUKKURI PHYSIOLOGY:

Outer layer of skin: full of "nerve" like tissue made of bean paste that has a limited strenght (enough to make the yukkuri leap a few inches in the air) and limited stretching capabilities.
Melts with constant contact with water.

Inner bean paste: doubles as central nervous system and brain, sending and receiving information from the eyes, head accesory and outer layers of skin.

Hair: made of bean paste, resembles human hair.

Eyes: unknown composition, directly connected to the IBP. Believed to be far weaker than human eyes.

Head accesory: linked through unknown means to the IBP (psychic link perhaps?). Has extreme importance to the yukkuris, as losing it will trigger deep changes in the yukkuri and it's surrounding ones.

All these new chunks of background are dumb. Is there no place in this world for vine grown yukkuri?

OF YUKKURI PSYCHOLOGY:

Towards itself: a yukkuri values itself above anything else. It will kill, rape and eat other yukkuris with no second thoughts if it feels its life is threatened.
Exceptions where the yukkuri will self-sacrifice for other yukkuris are rare.

Towards others: in a twist of irony, a yukkuri will die if it is lonely for too long. They often form groups.

Towards other beings: yukkuris see other beings (like humans) as mere tools they can use to achieve the ultimate objective: "taking it easy"

I could never hurt a Patchy-type. They're too adorable.

Food: will eat human foods, fruits and meat. Yukkuris can't hunt, because even the smallest animals can kill them, nor they can fish, because of their weakness to water and low intelligence.

Intelligence: unknown, varies between species.
Capable of rudimentary logic processes. Rudimentary verbal skills.

There bite is not particularly dangerous, nor a normal form of attack. They prefer to attack by bumping into their target, which is harmless against almost anything but another yukkuri. While they can bite, I doubt they have the jaw strength to break a human's flesh, and their teeth aren't sharp either.

And yukkuri will eat ANYTHING. They will only like things that are considered edible however. They can be forced to swallow (?) anything from garbage or dirt and will be able to convert it to bean paste.
Some have favorite foods, i.e. remiryas love pudding, but are predatory otherwise. Any yukkuri is willing to eat another in times of starvation or whenever the author feels like it.

A family of yukkuris bounced around wildly as she entered. A bag of food in hand, a warm smile on her face. They had been living there for weeks now, so they all considered her as their mommy, despite their biological mother being in the room as well.

"Hello, Reimu! I see you're taking care of your babies. Do you want some more food?"

As if that needed to be asked, "Yugu! Put it down easy!"

Still beaming a smile, Eirin poured out a bag of yukkuri food into a large bowl in the corner. There was enough room for the small family to all assemble around the bowl, but they spared no time in claiming their place. A quick headcount(rimshot king) revealed the family was growing very quickly- three more than last week. Several of the young yukkureimus had already grown ribbons, signifying adulthood.

Eirin silently grabbed one of the new teenagers and left the room, closing the door behind her. The creature still had some crumbs around it's mouth, and seemed somewhat stunned that it was being kidnapped in the middle of eating. Eirin covered it's eyes as she whisked it past the numerous glass terrariums and observation windows that filled her laboratory.

"Wow! It got dark all of a sudden! Where are you, mommy Eirin?"

"I'm here, little one." She was in no real hurry to get to the end of the hallway, but a panicking yukkuri was harder to work with. "Stay calm for me, okay?"
There at last. The door was already open, she had just left to get a subject. The room was well-lit, but there was not much to see. In the middle of the room was a square metal table, with a small trolley full of tools and a foreign black box sitting on the edge.

"Sit here and try not to move, okay?" She had set it down on the table, "This might hurt a bit, but stay with me."

"Mommy Eirin, what are you doing? What do you mean it will hurt? I want to take it easy!" It wanted to protest, but it was obedient to Eirin and didn't move.

She had already rigged up the black box with a pair of strange two-sided cables with clamps on each end. A "car battery" and "jumper cables" as Rinnosuke had said, and it was within his ability to tell what they were for;

Electricity.

"Mommy, those look sharp. What are you doing with them? I want to t-UuuUUUUuuuUuuUUUU!"
Eirin already had her notepad out and was scribbling like mad. Yukkureimu had gone completely rigid. Tiny bolts of electricity wove around the clamps and arced to the table. After twelve seconds, the interesting parts started. Yukkureimu seemed to be slowly melting.

Another five seconds, yukkureimu stopped trying to scream. Another three, her eyes melted. Another two, her hair was gone. Faster than it started, everything stopped. Eirin carefully leaned in to examine what she presumed to be a body.

It certainly seemed dead. The accessories were more or less intact, unlike melting in water. The only thing that indicated it was alive was a low vibration, almost a ripple across it's now fluid body. Eirin quietly pulled off of the jumper cables and poked it with a scalpel. Much to her surprise, the scalpel was sucked out of her hand!

It began to slowly pull itself back together and reform. The skin began to turn transparent, the bean paste within it was gone but the scalpel was stuck within it, suspended in some gel. The accessories were likewise sucked into the center. The creature, when it began to calm down, was no larger than a computer monitor. It spent the next few days in a glass box, under observation. Eirin recorded her findings, few as they were, before dumping the horror into the sewers like she did with all of the experiments in the end.

She didn't know what horror she had unleashed upon the underdark. She didn't think it would reproduce or grow. It took hundreds of years for that one experiment to produce enough offspring and cause enough trouble to gain a name.

Alternate translation, I tried to be more literal so the English isn't as good:

A large chunk of Yukkuri seems like a case study in why the internet can't have nice things.

It's like they took Makako's silly little comic and turned creative control over to a bunch of eight-year old boys who think everything needs to be bloody or scatological to be entertaining.

It's like there's two parallel yukkuri worlds at this point. In one Universe, the meme has been killed by this and raised from the dead as some horrific guro-zombie . . . while in another it still lives on like nothing ever happened. Makako's Remiryas still love silly costumes and don't fart, and life goes on.

There is absolutely nothing stopping artists from drawing cute stuff or from writing heart warming stories. They simply choose not to. Those that do make torture fics/images do not in any way prevent the former from doing what they like. I can't imagine anyone actually being so confused as to think this is the case. I'm fairly certain I wrote most of the first quoted comment in reply to a different context, and oddly enough, I think we're in agreement on a large part of this. There's plenty of yukkuri media that's still whimsical and silly no one should let one side stop them from enjoying the other.

It's also true that there's a certain morbid curiosity that draws people to look at things they know they won't like. I think most of the actual posting of outrage at this point is just trolling or people who feel the need to have the last word in some ridiculous yukkuri debate.

I honestly don't know why people do that. I don't know if it is morbid curiosity (I wouldn't think so, after the first time they should know what it is. I don't think this is >>1255139's first time in a yukkuri thread) or what, but I could never understand why people are so drawn to being in a place where they are not wanted, either by others (ban dodgers are a perfect example) or even themselves in this case. I go to yukkuri threads because I find them interesting. Both the abuse and the awww. I browse /jp/ by refreshing the main page and skipping right over anything that doesn't look interesting. Why do these people keep going to things they don't even like?
