not a fan of the regular sapporo or asahi brews.

Surprisingly, the bar across from my street actually sells Asahi Super Dry or whatever they're called (the silver can of beer with the 生 kanji written on it). I always wanted to try those, but the bar is owned by a friend of my family. I'm afraid he'll recognize me and earn me a reputation of beer drunkard within my family.

This'll probably never happen if I order a single can, but then again, I am stupid. If I ever find some cans in a supermarket though, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

Hitachino Nest's UK distributor is near where I live so it's pretty easy to get hold of in pubs and bottle shops. Can even get some of them by the crate.

I've had all of them (not all of them are pictured) and I enjoyed them all.

Celebration Ale - like a really good Belgian ale
White Ale - delicious, corriander, orange peel and nutmeg flavours
Rice Ale - tastes subtly of strawberries
Pale Ale - based on English Pale Ale but with a bit more of a 'tang' to it
Espresso Stout - big and bold, surprisingly easy to drink, could do with being a bit thicker
Japanese Classic Ale - can really taste the cedar barrels it is aged in, slightly too sweet but not unpleasant
XH - aged in sake barrels, complex, caramel and fruit flavours with the right amount of malt
Nipponia - uses Sorachi Ace hops, the sweetness of comes through. I think it tastes a bit like sweet pototoes
Dai Dai Ale - very refreshing, made using fukure mikan which grow near Mt Tsukuba, excellent balance of beer and fruit flavours
Amber Ale - not too bitter, not too sweet, easy to drink
Ginger Ale - my least favourite, but better than some other ginger + plus beer attempts I've drank
Sweet Stout and Lacto Stout - can't remember, haven't had them in a while

alcohol is shit at drowning sorrows tbh so i almost don't want to post beeradvice

honestly the hard part to beginning to enjoy beer is finding that first one that you actually kinda like (i'd recommend starting out trying some decent amber ales)
once you've found that first one it's not too hard to expand your tastes from there. have one or two of the one you kinda like, then try something else that's a bit different or a little stronger but was well regarded/recommended. if you enjoyed that? then try starting with it next time and keep that ball rolling. you have to take risks, especially at first, but you'll get there.

Hitachino Nest seems to be the only truly good, microbrew/craft/artisan type beer from Japan, at least as far as stuff that is available in the US.

I wonder if there is actually more and we just don't know about it, or if they are really this low on breweries.
