They will work without the skill, I think, but having the skill and a Monster Heart certainly helps.

Magic Device seems to be related to the level of monster you can dominate. You could always carry magic device equipment, but it's a pain to do it every time you want to dominate something.

Domination spells are much easier to work with now, even if it takes a huge amount of literacy to read the books to get enough stock for it to be worth it. Until then, it's better to stick with monster balls.

No, full identifications take time no matter how high it is, and they have to be in your inventory. It's always limited to weapons, as well. Kind of a disappointing skill nowadays. Stuff seems to show up showing quality and material more if your skill is higher, though. That's useful for knowing what's cursed, but you really aren't equipping stuff you pick up off the ground right away past the start of the game.

It has a chance to randomly trigger each round, once per piece of "disturbs growth" equipment you have. It raises the amount of xp you need until next level, but I don't know if it can go above the normal amount of xp you'd need for the level after, or if the amount of xp it takes is based on your level.

Then, you bash the person up and let your cat finish them. A tidbit of Elona lore:

those dungeons appearing all over Tyris are called Nefia. They randomly pop up, all over Tyris, and some times they merge into existing structures and turns whatever's in them into part of the dungeon (this is what happened to Yerleswood, who used to be inside an underground Yerles base).

The appearance of Nefia is due to an unknown process that pushes new dungeons upwards onto the surface while sometimes sucking old ones back in. The process is slowly speeding up, and it is thought that in a few thousand years Tyris will become one big Nefia.

As a light armor two handed melee fighter, I've used flying scrolls to make armor lighter, and cursed flying scrolls to make weapons meet the two hand weight requirement. So, adjusting gear weight in general.

You can also use them so it's easier to carry heavy stuff around with you. Having a feather-weight happy bed can be pretty useful.

This is actually fairly useful, for dual wielding as well, since you get decent accuracy boosts for getting stuff under the weight limit. It's nice for static artifacts that can't change material, especially now that damage isn't changed by using the scrolls.

I honestly never really cared about carrying around a happy bed with me. It's fairly easy to teleport around and return home or to wherever you have a good bed in the late game. Early on, you probably won't have enough flying scrolls anyway, unless you imported a bed from a gene file.

As it is, the wiki doesn't have many people still working on it, and none of them can translate that I know of. The people I've seen that can translate have mostly come from 4chan, both from here and the /vg/ roguelike thread.

How hard is it to get god weapons?

By the time you get them, are you pretty much at the point where you can beat any of the content in the game?

you can get them stupid early.
Kumi, Jure and Opatos in particular can be gotten at level one, because the items you need to offer can be gotten on the world map.
Diving the puppy cave can get you all the rings and rods you need for Yacatet and Itzpalt.
Mani, Luluwy and Ehekatl are the only three that require a little bit of effort to max.

I've gotten all god weapons before level 25, with minimal effort. The important thing is getting your faith high enough, so spring for items that increase faith like the special shell necklace you can get from the low-level hermit crabs.

Some of them are very nice, but others I dont find much use for. I usually use the coin from Yacatet because of the 100% pierce on it, and the Kumi Scythe, and I just give the other god weapons to my rowdy band of companions.

that giving god weapons to your pets is probably a smart idea. I was around lv 50ish when I started stomping out the bosses in the chaos forts of North Tyris. If you can kill the bosses in the chaos forts or around that level you should be able to the beat the game(finish the North Tyris part of the game anyhow) assuming you have the necessary resists of course.

They're not that rare. You can find them in dungeon floors but one of the best ways to farm them is to actually steal them from master thief enemies. The pirate hunting quest has a bunch of master thieves you can steal sox from as well. Lastly, if you do the mission from knight quest and kill Kuroya he will drop 10 sox for you. If you're not against resetting maps you can mass produce living weapons off of static artifacts dropped by the chaos fortress bosses.
For instance if you want a living laser pistol you can kill Utima, grab the laser pistol/railgun off her corpse, leave, reset the chaos fort by being on it and pressing backspace and enter, and repeating the process until you gather a stack of laser pistols. Once you have your stack get one of the pistols identified which will say it's a rail gun. Next, go to your home drop the rail gun and one by one drop each of the other laser pistols. Since there can only be one rail gun each of the other laser pistols upon drop will become different miracle and above quality guns. Take a look at the guns and see if any are living weapons. If not repeat the process and just sell the guns in the shop you hopefully opened up.

The other races provide better starts for certain play styles. Also, as far as dim is concerned, I myself never really ran into much trouble with dim. Maybe, it's because I'm a ranged user or something but I don't exactly see dim resistance as this must have amazing ability as I'm not really often affected by it. Not to say the Golem race is a bad race though. I like their starting base health a lot and the additional poison resistance is a nice perk.

The trick/cheat I outlined works on any boss that drops a static artifact really. It doesn't necessarily need to be a boss from any chaos forts. I just used a boss from a chaos fort as an example because you can easily go in, kill the boss, and collect his artifact drop in seconds if you're powerful enough. Just apply the trick I outlined to any boss that drops a weapon type you're interested in but if he/she is on a different floor instead of resetting the entire dungeon to get him/her to respawn just reset the floor the boss is on. Stand on the stairs leading to that floor and press backspace and enter. See anon's post beneath my original post detailing the trick to make the process more efficient.

According the the fairy I just rolled up, it's +50 sound, +100 cold/lightning/nerve/chaos, +150 magic, and +200 darkness/mind. No fire, poison, or nether. No Resist is a base resist of 100, and +50 means about one tier, so No Resist -> Little. But you also start out with 40 life, so although you'd take less damage from stuff, you don't have as much life to lose either.

But when you get the "Sleep Sharing" event (you can force the event if you use squeeze on a Soulmate or higher pet when standing on a bed when sleepy) you get a bunch of choices and each choice raises your or their percentage.

I think it's just all for fun, but the goal seems to get both your and your pet's percentage to 100 or more at the same time. When you get to 100, you "reach your limit" so I always try to get both of us to reach it at the same time. I didn't manage to do so in that pic, but did the second time.

It probably does nothing, but I've noticed that I get pretty high potential increases if I manage to get both to 100 when the event happens on its own.

You should buy a taxmasters box from Miral and Garok's Workshop so you can just pay your taxes in your home. Mine's right next to the payment box so paying bills is no big deal at all.

You should also pickpocket a dartboard or slotmachine from the Palmia casino so you can gamble in the comfort of your home. Just use a rod of teleportation on nearby guards and steal something.

One should try to get all the basic essentials in their home. If your strength is 85+, you can even pickpocket fruit trees for your home.

I would probably add that Panic quests there have the empty altar to use for building favor. Although they seem to show up more often in Palmia, and the walk to the spell writer in Lumiest is longer. Pets that you raise from low levels are going to lag behind in some skills no matter what you do, especially in comparison to new ones that you can catch then equip. So it's fine to raise a few for fun, but it might end up being disappointing for all the effort you have to put into them. I like to pick up a few diary and god pets with abilities that no other NPC has, and let them run around sometimes. It's pretty fun until they run into something higher level than them, where they get pasted almost before I notice them getting damaged.

Catching several high level ones, especially ones from the old dominatable panic quests, can be really effective, but there's also not much of a sense of accomplishment if your pets are killing everything. Especially if you aren't attached to them. So there are drawbacks either way.

There's an easier way to use item sprites in Elona Plus than doing it that way. I just use a spritesheet with a XCF file and tons of layers because it's a lot easier to change alternates if I have to. But if you just have a few you want to replace, the individual replacement might be better. My own replacement sprites might not work well for everyone.

I think that the format is item#.bmp then throw that in your Elona/user/graphics folder. That is fairly new, since they only let you do it with chara_#.bmp and character sprites in normal Elona. I think it's a little more forgiving with file types and crashes with that method.

I avoided using pets when I first started playing mainly for the reason that you stated. It's hard to keep up with the training and maintenance needed to keep pets viable while trying to increase your main character's power at the same time. However, now that I'm pretty far in the game and can easily take care of myself having a pet around is growing more and more appealing. The idea of an NPC tagging along that is nearly as strong as you are assisting in damage and acting as a damage sponge sounds nice. Also, some of the abilities that are unique to the pets can be useful. Later on in the game the acquisition of money and resources to help your pet grow in power becomes pretty easy. Need to keep their skills constantly growing? Send them to the dojo and pay the fees which is no problem because later on you can make millions of gold in minutes. Need to keep your pet stats high? No problem later on in the game. Potions of potentials are available at a steady rate if you have invested in enough merchants that sell the stuff(make sure to bless the potions before giving them to your pet) and you already should have an herb farm to supplement yourself and your pets anyhow. Pets need speed? Get medals from clearing dungeons, trade them in for hermes potions and give them to your pet and I think you can spend AP to increase Pet speed as well. As others have mentioned gene engineering is a good way to lv up pets fast and add slots/parts if that's your thing. So I guess what I'm saying if you're looking to raise a pet it is much viable later on but I imagine if you want to start raising a pet from the start of the game you should probably just stick to one pet and invest evenly in yourself and your pet. Don't raise too many pets to start off with or you'll over extend yourself.

Cycling through pets and just replacing them with higher lv pets sounds good initially but if you're looking into playing with pets in the long run I imagine you'll hit a wall with that approach eventually. If you just stick with one pet and just gene engineer things into the pet you'll keep the pet's lv high with the added perk of having a pet that has already been training its skills. Also, if you take the time to invest in your pets instead of just tossing them aside for a creature that is higher lv you may find that the pet you invested in has stats that are still better than a higher lv creature you saw. Finally, there are pets that have special abilities that you may want to have around permanently.
