I've been wanting to play more VNs with gameplay that also have decent plots. Basically ones that you'd want to read even if there wasn't gameplay. A lot I've tried seem to sacrifice it in exchange for good gameplay and lots of girls/h-scenes, which isn't bad or anything, just a different type. The ones I've played so far are the IM series, Baldr Force, Baldr Sky, and Ninetail games except Gears of Dragoon, any others I should know about? Anyone know how the Venus Blood/Rance games are in the scenario department?

Because installing pirated 8 Pro on a PC that comes with 8 core version installed is bit of a pain. The product key is in your BIOS, and the setup will use that and give you the core version even if you install from a Pro disk or ISO. Of couse, there are workarounds, but no point, really, since 8 is functional enough.

Finished Majo Koi Nikki trial. The last few minutes of the trial make it hard to form to clear expectations, but I can tell Qoobrand has a major potential hit on their hands.

Rance 6 is downright one of my favorite rpg, though it has some bullshit like the orb grinding.
And I say that as someone who has been playing rpgs for like 20 years
Rance Quest (+Magnum) is pretty good too, lots of fanservice for people who like the series too and gameplay-wise once you get going it gets pretty addicting.

Among the older games Kichikuou is pretty legendary for good reasons, it's an absolutely massive and ambitious game even if you compare it to mainstream game released around the same period.
Rance 3 and 4 are also worth doing for at least one playthrough, Rance 3 is kind of broken and aged poorly but it introduced a lot of things important to the series, Rance 4 is actually pretty solid and worth doing if you don't mind older games.

Erogamescape is the big one in Japan. And yes, it has entries for authors.

But honestly, VNs are one of the most subjective mediums I've ever seen, so any ranking by anyone else probably isn't going to match up with your own opinions. VNDB is bad regardless, though, because too many faggots rate stuff they haven't actually read, or "read" with machine translators. EGS isn't perfect either, since it's full of ステマ.

I read it for a little but the protag got on my nerves and it's been sitting on my HD ever since. Actually probably the first time the protagonist made me lose that much interest in a VN. I would, Eustia was far easier because you get a real sense of progression (apart from the true/last route), he was actually going around to settle matters, and interactions were, how do you say it, timely and very digestible? It was something that I could pick up quickly at drop of a hat and read for few hours. Sumaga was choking all over the place, and it didn't help with the setting/mechanism having shitman dying multiple times all over and choking some more. The flow made sense in overall theme for sumaga but hardly a pleasant reading experience for me.

I just read the explanation part to Owaru Sekai to Futagoza no Paradise (the fan disc). As a fan of both games, I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy it a lot.
I guess I'll write a little review once I finish it.

Finished lovesick puppies, skipping Maruna's route.
There's not really much to talk about, since it was pretty damn generic, not that it's necessarily a bad thing. The comedy was also alright, and didn't rely too much on manzai.
The route that stood out from the rest was Orie's. She was pretty obviously the main heroine, having a lot more content than the others even before her route actually started. That's not a bad thing though, since she and Yuki were the best heroines.
I'd play it if you don't have any better options, and don't want to risk playing a game you don't know about, since I think it's pretty hard to dislike this one.

Started ひこうき雲の向こう側, currently at the bit where she invites him to the club: the mc is surprising - a fair bit better than more renai VN, at least so far. A fair bit of self realization to what sort of he is - a weak-willed hypocrite, projected by that lingering image of that day. Though he seems to be still capable of holding his own thought so he isn't the usual good-for-nothing, despite gotten into this hole he dug himself in. Route split is incoming so my interest has heightened a little to see what the writer(s) got on offer.

And I dont think that simply discarding the main heroine for all but the most recent game in the series is a good direction to take. Since people were saying Luna and Ursule were the better routes, I started with Mizuho and Minato.
Mizuho's route was pretty mediocre, and I disliked how she was still bitter about accepting Yuusei instead of Asahi. Minato's route was better than I expected. They managed to fool me twice into thinking my most-hated ending(long-distance relationship) was about to happen, instead turning it around into my favorite(同棲).

Time to start the routes I was actually looking forward to, and then move on to the sequel since Risona is great.
