Well im not exactly rushing it, but I kind of dislike both Aurica and Misha, so it is making me enjoy it less than I think I will enjoy 2, after seeing the characters.

Aurica is boring visually (also something about her art bothers me), and Misha is immature and bitchy. The problem with Misha's path is that it drags down both girls. I did Aurica's first and I loved her and liked Misha too. When I did Misha's it constantly kicked you in the nuts and showed off the worst of both heroines without justifying or mitigating them like the other route.

Unfortunately in 2, both routes are like this but worse and for two whole phases instead of just one. Its saving graces are that the third reyvateil is implemented more smoothly than the third in 1 and, even better, that you can ditch all three when you're tired of their shit.

At this point you're better off staying the course, at least until the first ending to save the hymnos in the extras and by then hopefully you will like someone enough to see the rest of the game. The setting and the girls are really beautiful when you give them a chance.

Well I think this was the first JRPG I've ever beaten

I really liked it other than all the random encounters which ended up just being annoying. Mir's second form was frustrating because she was able to kill my entire party in that 1 shot so I had to restart 2 times. Shurelias attack/defense/speed boost is great though and actually let me survive. I wish I got the Shurelia ending instead of the Misha ending but I wasn't able to dive with Shurelia so I couldn't raise her level.

I'm only an hour or so into into AT2 but it is feeling kind of depressing already, I don't like how the fields work very much, at least the first forest, the viewpoint is kind of confusing with all the trees and shrubbery, and there is no map for when I get lost like there was in AT1. I also think it is too dark, in AT1 after you crash you are in a bright and happy forest but in this one the forest was dark and muddy looking.

The rest I figured out by just playing the game. I realized they hinted at it several times, but I was having trouble believing that I had to continue "so far" into the game just to finish what seemed like the first Genometrics.

At least with prior AT games, there always seemed to be a noticeable balance between completing an entire dive level and having to continue the game's story. It bothered me that I had to stop somewhat abruptly in Ion's.

I'm kind of disappointed by Atelier Escha Logy. Not that I mind the boy and girl protagonist but I felt that the characters weren't fleshed out just like Ayesha's. Alchemy system also got more interesting but easier at the same time.

How do you guys feel about the rumoured cutting down on time management aspects? In addition to the ! markers for event locations, there is also a goal marked on the screen telling us players what our objective during that period would be.

I feel positive towards this. One thing I did not enjoy about Ayesha was how I'd be screwing around and not knowing if I was taking the right actions towards my goals or not. Having a definite and over-arching objective sounds useful for somebody like me who has trouble staying focused.

I've seen a lot of other people online being rather melodramatic about this and saying it is the death of the series and that it is now going to be a generic RPG. But I don't really see their point. Even when the series WAS trying to play more like a traditional jrpg, like the Iris trilogy and MK, it still had a focus on alchemy. And there were tons of things about it that you could easily recognize as iconic features of the atelier series (punis, the name of the currency, the alchemy mechanics, to name a few). I've noticed as well that the majority of the people who are making these complaints mostly identify themselves as fans of the Arland trilogy above the other series.

Is it strange or am I not the only one who notices these things?

I started the game with 250 GP and ended with 235 GP, nothing to spend it on. Game's too easy to require any grinding even on Veteran, and the last dungeon can take you from Lv.80 to 99 in one battle so it doesn't even matter.

Dunno, I haven't married her yet, we're just 'lovers' status (3 hearts, the possible statuses are dating - lovers - married). I think there are around 120 dates, 100 or so of which must be scheduled (the other 20 come from crafted items), all of which you need to go on to marry her, so even if you managed to go on one date per day (not an easy task) you'd still be looking at over 3 months.

If you just want to get the Ciel experience before playing Ar, just get to the point where you can date Ion and talk with her a bunch while you're doing the story chapters, that's enough for Ar really.

I played halfway through Ar Tonelico 2 on the PS2 and then stopped for a while. I just restarted on a PS3 because I heard it fixes the freezes later on but Croix falls through the floor every time I press against a wall. Anyone else have that problem?
